New Year, new Botafogo. There are many changes in Botafogo Futebol e Regatas this year. Maurício Assumpção is the new Presidente. He is 47 years old and has a responsability to replace Bebeto de Freitas (2003/2008). He promises to invest in young players. There are new faces in the squad: defenders Wellington (Cruzeiro), Teco (Cruzeiro), Juninho (São Paulo), midfielders Fahel (Goiás), Batista (Avaí), Léo Silva (Cruzeiro), Maicosuel (Cruzeiro, Palmeiras), Diego (Cruzeiro) and strikers Reinaldo (Paris St Germain, JEF United) and Victor Simões (Chunnam Dragons).
The fans are very pleased with the return of Juninho, who played in Botafogo from 2005 to 2007. He was Rio de Janeiro State champion in 2006.
Almost all the first team was gone: Lúcio Flávio (Santos), Jorge Henrique (Corinthians), Túlio (Corinthians), Triguinho (Santos), Renato Silva (São Paulo), André Luís, Diguinho (Fluminense), Carlos Alberto (Vasco) and Wellington Paulista (Cruzeiro). After two weeks of hard fitness training, Ney Franco managed a tactical training. The reserve team: Lopes - Thiaguinho, Alex, Wellington, Gabriel - Léo Silva, Batista, Lucas Silva, Jean Carioca - Victor Simões, Laio. The reserve team won the training match by 3-2. The goals were scored by Léo Silva, Lucas Silva, Túlio Souza, Diego and Victor Simões. After 30 minutes of training, the first team was: Renan, Alessandro, Emerson, Teco e Gabriel; Léo Silva, Fahel, Lucas Silva (Leandro Guerreiro) e Maicosuel; Reinaldo e Victor Simões.
