a meeting between France Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes and several other council members on Thursday has resulted in the FFF giving their backing to the coach.

As a result, Domenech will now have the opportunity to guide France through their World Cup qualifiers, with the intention of making the finals in South Africa in 2010.
Emotion

Escalettes admitted that he was not keen to make a knee-jerk reaction despite the public condemnation of Domenech in the wake of France's early exit.

"Domenech's record is not that bad as coach," he said. "It is not catastrophic.

"He qualified us two straight times for a major competition".

"I did not want emotion and passion to get the better of reason."

However, Escalettes admitted that Domenech would face some changes as the "conditions of his mission and the terms of his management" would be redefined, without giving further details.

bullshit decision  Escalettes is a moron, "He qualified us two straight times for a major competition" ???!!!:D of course he did, who was in our qualifying group? Lithuania, the Faroe Islands, Georgia...

prepare to see more of Clerc, Abidal, Coupet, Malouda for the WC:mad:

And prepare to see Just Fontaine and Raymond Kopa make sensational comebacks for Les Bleus! :D I wouldn't put it past Domenech. Seriously, is Domenech sucking Escalettes and the rest of them off? How can he keep his job just because France qualified for two tournaments? They were World Champions and European Champions at the same time, and now it's ok to just qualify :O The players don't like him and neither do French football fans, yet he still remains.

Great job FFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Domenech deserves more of a chance than Donadoni got, obvoiusly! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought France would be dangerous the next WC. Now let's see if they qualify. This man is a MORON. He not only holds on too tightly too veterans but he forces them to stay on, ignores the young guns in their prime, and then gets the real young guns before they're ready and before they've earned a bloody cap. At least he didn't get any Libras.

Stupid decision imo, the guy is a sentiment.

All his decisions during the Euro's, all the subs chosen were out of sentimental value, his squad is based on sentiment. Everything ffs.
Chosing Abidal over eVra after the season Abidal had was pure sentiment, hes the guy that cost you your Euros thanks to that pen and the sending off.
To be totally honest, France was never ever a force. Zidane won them their WC by scoring twice ffs in the final and got them to another final in 06. So their campaign without him wasnt really a surprise.
Who knows maybe the board that chose to keep him are also sentimental.

Escalettes is an idiot. He's basically sticking up for his failure. He is (or was) one of the main supporters of Domenech and firing Domenech would be him saying "I suck". That 18-0 vote was stunning with two absentees, who probably didn't show up because they probably opposed Domenech and already knew the 18-0 vote. I am not wishing we fail, but if an opening draw against Austria, followed by another draw at home (I hope it's at the Stade de France because I will be there), where he will be entrenched with boos regardless of whether we win or lose against Serbia and a lost to Romania will be enough for him to get sacked.
