Read an article today about Viet-American Lee Nguyen set to join Hoang Anh Gia Lai of the Vietnamese V-League. The club is one of the bigger clubs, which made recent news about their new relationship with Arsenal from the premier league. Lee has been long rumored to be one of the key members of the new US national team once some of the older players retire. He's been playing in the Denmark for Randers FC. wat do you guys think about the move? He was highly prized coming out of his freshman year at Indiana but has bad spells with PSV and now Randers.

Update on Lee:
Yesterday in Pleiku, Lee scored a hat-trick in his trial for Hoang Anh Gia Lai against Binh Dinh, helping his club to a 5-1 victory. He's now gonna fly back to Denmark to rejoin Randers for the remainder of the Danish league and will join Hoang Anh Gia Lai in May. HAGL will get him earlier if they decide to go into negotiations with Randers.

It is rumored to be a 3 year deal with a trial for Arsenal coming at the end of the season, stemmed from a contract with Arsenal where HAGL will send 2 of their best players to trial or train with the London club. :D Co-signed.
Add Kamani Hill, Preston Zimmerman, Benny Feilhaber, etc., to that list, as well.

why should he go back to the MLS when he has a great chance with this Vietnamese club to earn a trial with Arsenal? Playing in the MLS is the same as the playing in Vietnam, he'll play in obscurity. he'll get looks from clubs in Norway or other lower European league clubs. he wants to re-connect with his fathers heritage and has an incredible opportunity in Vietnam. He's still farely young.

LOOOOL
Playing in Vietnam is not even close to playing in MLS. Especially from getting a shot with the national team standpoint. Considering I've seen MLS games on national TV in England and I don't think anyone in England could name a team from Vietnam, much less a player in their league, there's a huge difference. What good is a trial with Arsenal going to do anything? He wasn't good enough for a mediocre team in Denmark, he's not going to get anything from Arsenal at his age.
The kid needs to accept that he's probably not as good as he thought he was and the best way to get back and have a shot with the national team is to come back to MLS...that's if he could make an MLS team.

what makes his chances better for getting back into the national team by playing in the MLS. is that guarantied? A trial can mean bigs things. it might not spell a contract with Arsenal but it could open doors to other clubs in england. If he does well at HAGL, he can prove himself against better asian clubs. He probably could move to the A-League, J-League, or K-League after a season or so. Maybe the kid wants to shine somewhere else. He already flirted with the idea of joining Houston a while back but he saw it fit to play elsewhere.

Also who says he wants to play for the USMNT? Maybe he wants to get Vietnamese citizenship and play for Vietnam? Playing for HAGL would certainly make that a possibility.
Or is he already cap-tied to the US?
