Also spoke the league 1 and Canal+... And the possibility for the French speakers all over the world to watch games with French commentary just vanished.

On this Forum I've seen games in English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Russian, Romanian, Polish, Chinese, and none in French...

I know that French is not so popular but still... What is for sure it's that the Ligue just shot itself in the foot :D.

To be popular you have offer he possibility to everybody to watch the games. Just see the other leagues. They closed their eyes. Everybody knows about what is happening in Spain, Italy, Germany,... I don't say about England.

Them they just ask to a small forum to stop to post games and asked them 4 000 euros fine (or lawyers costs). Instead of having a worlwide commercial attitude having a long term promotion plan, they just look at their shoes.

And where goes the money ??? To the club ??? No Ligue 1 is just a good school to train new players and sale them when ready. Where goes the money ??? To Canal+ who certainly is saying that they don't have enough.

It's time for them to have a look at themselves and start a new plan if they want to promote the French football a little bit more around the world. But I can't think they haven't think to this already. So again where goes the money ???

I'm not in France of course. I live in Thailand for 7 years. Here we have only TV5 on Satelite, I don't have a dish and my connexion is not so fast.

So if some of you have opinions or infos on this curious communication strategy I would be glad to read them. And of course if anyone could post or explain how to watch games with French commentary out of France, I'm sure that Quebecs, African, Belgians, Swiss, Expats of the world will enjoy the help.

Bien cordialement.

I'm sure the contract that Canal+ signed gave them the complete rights to the matches, the league would surely have gotten a lot less if they told Canal+ that people would be able to download the matches for free from the internet.

This is standard operating procedure for any rights holder (and league) and is not curious at all.

There have been lots of matches with French commentary posted here. I used to do one a week from TV5 myself but since this is an English language forum it's not surprising that most people prefer English commentary so those cappers that have access to the match in both English and French would chose to release the English one.

I agree but so many languages are available here. I know that French people are not familiar with English so perhaps are reluctant to find or to come on this forum but there are people from Quebec. I'e been there many times and I know how proud of their language they are.

Also I understand the C+ issue. I just say the Ligue 1 could ask them to close their eyes close their eyes in order to widespread the league internationaly so it would increase the value of the players. It's what it's done by the other leagues.

But what we see here is that it's not the Ligue 1 who run the thing but it's C+ who dictates and C+ is just interested by their revenues (normal) but even if they want they cannot be concerned by the future of the French football for it's not their purpose.

By the way they could sell more highlights to the world also if they succeed to rise the interest. But they must have thought to this... The fact is that no public tv channel can show games and this is the scandal ! Even if you are ready to watch ad you cannot watch. You have to sign a contract for 1 year... OK good marketing. But one has to take side sometimes.

And who is suffering in the end: the players and the club. And yes I'd like to have a league similar to the EPL's quality. Or at least 4 big clubs. Dream perhaps. But who doesn't try...

I couldn't care less what language commentary is in. It could all be French and it wouldn't bother me, as i don't need some bloke in a football studio to tell me what I'm looking at.

The fact is... that I started again to view games with French commentaries few weeks ago (in the same time I posted this thread). I didn't for years. And it sucks but it's a kind of funny. If I compare with English commentaries it's a non stop diarrhea of tek comments on a Brazilian style rhythm. With a taste of outrageous chauvinism (regarding the results of the French team).

But also I have news from home. It's so romantic !
