No Lehmann is really inconsistent. While Kahn has been having a really good year, Lehmann has had a great couple of weeks but who knows how long that will last. Oliver Kahn can still hold his own with the best goalies in the world.

lehmann has been confirmed as the keeper for the first match only, so from there i think klinsmann will see if he can carry on or kahn's experience is needed during big times. i understand klinsmann has been under great pressure to name his first choice goalkeeper lately, so no wonder he chooses lehmann for his excellent form at the moment.

Kahn has been having a shit year. He is past his glory years. Lehmann has been having a better season compared to Kahn.

To me they are both the same. Both make bad mistakes at the wrong time.

"Great couple of weeks?" Fortunately or otherwise, Lehmann has been Arsenal's most consistant player this entire year. I understand that Lehmann certainly has been very inconsistent in the past, but that really is not the case at all this year. I am not just talking about the run of Champions League games either, whether it be protecting a blowout lead at Highbury or at least attempting to keep it close on the road (something that obviously has not been the case too many times this year), he has done it. Timely saves and smart decisions.

Lehmann is playing great for some time now...and Kahn not so well. So obvious decision ...atleast to me.

Are we watching the same season??
It appeared that Lehmann played poor for the 1st half of the season due to the defensive shambles at Arsenal, look at that back 4, all youngsters with Cole & Campbell out injured most of the season.
I will admit though, that most of Kahn's inconsistencies have come in the 2nd half of the season.

Oliver Kahn can still hold his own with the best goalies in the world.

Th reason why Lehman was chosen is his ability to be an in field goaly, kind of sweeper like role if you like. Kahn is better on the line, but thats about it.

with lehmans form right now i would pick him but i still like kahn better. he is a much better goalie and still is one of the best in the world by far. hope to see him make it into some games at the world cup though.

Kahn hasn't shown anything spectacular since the 2002 WC in my opinion, Lehmann's cockiness AND gameplay at Arsenal and for the German national team earned him the spot, in my opinion. At first everyone thought he was crazy for coming out and saying he should be the #1 but he backed up his words with results.

i´d go for lehmann too. if u just go by the form at the mo, lehmann is far better. he used to be a real liability, always good for a red card or the occasional trip outside of his box(arsenal-panathinaikos last season!!!) he was even carded once for attacking one of his own dortmund colleagues during a match. but he certainly cleaned up his game recently.
overall i think klinsmann regarded lehmanns ability a as kind of back-up sweeper. i think he´s also more capable of communicating properly with the very young back four of germany. kahn might be world-class when he´s on his line but thats about it

I think at this stage in his career, Kahn is clearly the ageing keeper. His talent, and past accomplishments have been unquestionable, however age cannot be taken back. The time is for Lehmann. I hope Kahn can take the bench gracefully, knowing his place in the fans hearts is secure.

Lehmann has been on great form for his club this season and deserves the no.1 spot for his country.

Kahn was a great keeper at one time, but he ain't what he used to be. Its Lehmann's chance to shine now and I'm sure he'll do very well at the World Cup as long as he doesn't elbow anyone or dig his knee into people's backs.

Kahn is still Kahn and he`s able to deliver a perfomance like WC2002 again, its Germany`s best Keeper in Historie and he`s still in shape. You see Keepers staying on their Level till 38 to (raw cases) 40.

Other german Keepers have the same Level (or very very close) as Lehmann. Rost, Enke, Koch, Hildebrand and now Weidenfeller and maybe Wiese (weed out the Juve game :D ) but Kahn was always above them.

Lehmann is playing the best season of his Career. He was Nr.2 in 4 tournaments and he was always an outstanding Keeper. I think its a question of fairness to give him the 1st Position at this point.

Next to that Oliver Bierhoff is the Advisor of Lehmann (300000€ p.a.? ) and Klinsmann is not a friend of Kahn. Who wonders bcause Oliver Kahn is the biggest as$hole in History as well.

If Klinsmann wont make it to Final, the Bayern-Munich-Lobby will get rid of him because they take this decision as personal-offence.

best keeper ever, and lehmann is a douchebag. they can both make the plays but kahn has the leadership. no doubt that he is number one!

I think Lehmann is better choice at the moment but its still a long way to World Cup. Everything can change.

Glad to see the big man get what he deserves, has been a model of consistency all season, where as Kahn has dropped a few clangers in recent weeks

Nice of "Klinsi" to announce his decision just 24 hours before the match against Bremen. It's Bayern's own fault, they pushed him for a decision and got one... I like Lehmann better than Kahn right now if only for his psychological consistency. Kahn is just too weird these days. Recently he started a match with an injury and had to be replaced after a few minutes.

I think he will go to the World Cup as "Nummer zwei" but it won't be good for the German Team.

i believe that we have gotten to the final with kahn, lehmann does not deserve a chance. kahn may have made one error at the end of a 4-1 game against the US, but he also had a couple of sick saves. Kahn has had a better year than lehmann who hasnt done anything except sit behind a great arsenal defense. The guy is a complete jerk and is incapable of leading germany to a world cup final, which kahn has proven he can do. Kahn steps it up when it matters, Lehmann gets a yellow card and alienates his teammates. Which would you prefer?

I cant believe you totaly ignore that Kahn is one of the biggest wankers in Germany`s history. He`s the best mate of Effenberg!!
Please take off your red/white Bayern-München-glasses.

as much as i agree with you i have to disagree. kahn is having problems right now and the timing of all this was really bad. lehmann has done outstanding for arsenal behind a crap defence. i personally would like to see kahn in net but he hasnt been there all this year. that could be bad coaching as well for magath to play him injured. but whatever is best for germany. i'll swallow my bayern pride if lehmann is the better keeper.

I say it's a good move to bring Lehmann in but then we may have to meet the host Germany if we make that second place in our group at WC 2006. So I would like to see a third option, a goalkeeper who can't keep the ball outside the net when Larsson and Ibrahimovic handle the ball really well.

Is there any Ouch I. Schlipdeballer in the german team? :D

100% agreed. If Germany make a good run at the world cup it will because Klinsmann changed his mind.

I'm not a big fan of the German team, but I'm honestly gonna put my hands together to what Klinsmann did. Lehmann to be honest deserved the chance to shine in the world stage after playing 2nd fiddle to Kahn who's unsuprisingly in a very very poor form prior to the World Cup. I would also put Michael Rensing ahead of Kahn in the german squad for the summer..
