Bolton forward Jared Borgetti will get the chance to show his talents on the biggest stage after being included in Mexico's provisional 26-man World Cup squad, but the dream appears over for Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
Borgetti has been a peripheral figure for Bolton this term, but coach Ricardo Lavolpe retains the utmost faith in the marksman.
Blanco is one of the most gifted players ever to represent Mexico, but he has also got his fair share of temperament and has been repeatedly overlooked ever since pulling out of last year's Confederations Cup at the 11th hour.
Veteran pair Claudio Suarez and Jesus Arellano have also been included, as have naturalised duo Guillermo Franco and Antonio Naelson, and they will meet up in Mexico on April 12 for medical tests.
Lavolpe will begin tactical training on April 22 before whittling down his squad to 23 for the May 15 deadline.
Oswaldo Sanchez (Guadalajara/Chivas), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Jesus Corona (UAG/Tecos); Jose Antonio Castro (America), Rafael Marquez (Barcelona), Mario Mendez (Monterrey), Ricardo Osorio (Cruz Azul), Francisco Rodriguez (Guadalajara/Chivas), Carlos Salcido (Guadalajara/Chivas), Joel Huiqui (Cruz Azul), Claudio Suarez (Chivas USA), Andres Guardado (Atlas), Gonzalo Pineda (Guadalajara/Chivas); Luis Perez (Monterrey), Pavel Pardo (America), Antonio Naelson (Toluca), Rafael Garcia (Atlas), Jaime Lozano (UANL/Tigres), Jesus Arellano (Monterrey), Israel Lopez (Toluca), Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Ramon Morales (Guadalajara/Chivas); Jared Borgetti (Bolton), Guillermo Franco (Villarreal), Francisco Fonseca (Cruz Azul), Omar Bravo (Guadalajara/Chivas)
