View Full Version : Which Liverpool player is the best shooter?

Rafa Benitez has slowly put together quite a few payers with great shooting ability. With the addition of Aurelio, this department will not be lacking by any means.
Personaly for me, Mark Gonzalez is the best as he can score from free kicks as well as score field goals. Much like Xabi.
Riise surely has the hardest shot of them all. And need we mention Stevie G? Luis also manages to score from long distance.
Who do you think is the best shooter at Anfield?

Alonso....what a player

Gerrard;)
Hamann.
Scorer of the last goal ever at the old Wembley.
They should've named that footbridge after him....

Gerrard takes it by a shade. Alonso's not far behind, neither is Hamann. I think Riise's shooting is overrated. Yes he's scored some spectacular goals in the past, but not on a consistent basis. If you watch him take the free kicks for us he often ends up hitting the wall or blasting it over the bar. I read somewhere that he's only ever scored 3 or 4 goals for us from free kicks. Not a criticism, merely an observation.
Slightly off topic, but in the box our best finishers are Fowler and Garcia. Sounds cliche, but they seem to instinctively know where the goal is.

Have you seen the adidas advert where he shapes up to take a penalty with his right foot but crosses his left foot behind his right and hits the ball into the top corner? Superb stuff from my main man Harry! :)

In terms of technical ability, in relation to shooting, Fowler is light years ahead of the rest. His fitness isn't what is was, due to multiple injuries but his finishing is the best I've ever seen in the Premiership, bar anybody. Fowler scored the his first 100 goals for the club faster than any other player we've had. Had it not been for serious career threatening injuries, not one but three, he'd be on his way to hammering Shearer's record. Not one player in our team comes close to him.

I've been going to Anfield since I was 14, I've seen Rush, I've seen Collymore, I've seen Owen, I've seen Gerrard, I've seen none better than Fowler. 36 goals in one season when he was nineteen, a four minute hattrick. Go to Youtube and put "Fowler Brann" in the search bar, and tell me there's a better finisher. Also put "Fowler West Ham".

my votes are Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia. Alonso is a great ball striker and Garcia just comes up with crunch time goals. Always gotta love that.

My friend, it's not 1996 now. He sucks nowadays, be a realist. As much love as I got for the man he is no way the best shooter/finisher in the squad atm.
Anyway, hard one to call this. Three-way tie between Xabi, Stevie and Gonzalez, even if he's not technically in the squad. If someone could tell Rafa that Djibril is a striker my vote would go to him, fierce strikes.

People were talking about shooting ability, not fitness, nor the ability to get oneself in a position to score. When it comes to shooting the ball, even now, Fowler is the most techinically gifted shooter we have.

Cisse :D - And that would be hilarious...if it weren't entirely true. I shit you not

The only thing hilarious is people who think players should be judged on their past performances and skills! Stuff like Fowler is still a 10 hattrick man lol. What's next? Raul, Shearer and Zidane still as good as they were? :D Bunch of discarded has-beens! Hook them up with Bolton and they'll probably hit their prime again :p
Rule #1: Never judge a players' present skill on his past.
You Knows It, I really hope both you and Fowler prove me wrong. As it is right now, he's nowhere near say Gerrard when it comes to shot technique. To be fair though he hasn't had that many chances to show his current shooting/finishing ability. We've seen where he stands as a finisher nowadays at City, except from that fluke City-hattrick earlier in the season. But again, it's hard to judge him at this moment and I hope you prove us wrong GOD!

Its Gerrard by a mile.
And seriously, Alonso isn't really a good shooter. I think a lot of people assume he is because we know he is accurate with his kicking, but he really doesn't shoot well. Even curling free kicks he's not that good at.
It's an assumption held by many, including here, but I don't see it. People choose to ignore so many of his shots from outside the box that nearly hit the corner flag, or end up in the umpteenth row.
And this coming from a fan who has a nickname after him. :)

I couldn't agree more, Alonso is overated at shooting. He is the best passer of the ball I've seen, but definitely not shooting.
Overall, Gerrard...In my heart, Riise :D

since we are taking shooting....fowler. forget the arguement on page three, its robbie. ever see gerrard hit it with his left from outside the box?? fowler can hit it with both left and right boots from outside the box. scored two free kicks with city last term, and only took three of them. pretty good ratio in my book. love stevie but sometimes its almost as if he closes his eyes and just hammers it. fowler is still a finess finisher with real technical ability.

At the moment. Gerrard is our best shooter. He hits the ball with a lot of power and pulls out his cannon when the chips are down.
Although I have to concede the point that Fowler is not fit. And if he were fit, would probably be considered our best shooter/finisher. Amazingly two-footed and strong in the air. Always seems to know where the net is. I'm sure you could blindfold him. Place him at the center circle, turn him around a few times. Give him a ball. And he would hit the opponent's net every single time.

Surely it has to be Fowler. That instinct never goes away, and he's not that old yet. Players like Riise and Gerrard hit the ball with power like hardly anybody else in the Premiership, but Fowler is still the best all around.
In terms of technical ability, in relation to shooting, Fowler is light years ahead of the rest. His fitness isn't what is was, due to multiple injuries but his finishing is the best I've ever seen in the Premiership, bar anybody. The same could be said for Shearer as well, particularly about his injury in 1997. He lost so much of what his game was about when he had that horrific injury, yet managed to completely change and adapt his game to a totally different style of play. The quality and quantity of goals he scored for Blackburn were so much higher, and he still probably had at least 4 more years of world class goalscoring were it not for that injury. He'd be even further away.

I would have to agree that Fowler, since his comeback to Liverpool has surely put himself at the top. That boy has skill. He is not just a sharp~shooter, he can take on defenders.

Which is why Garcia scored 13 goals last season and has 10 this term. All tap-ins I suppose. His left-foot volley against Juve last season was a tap-in from outside the box then?

Gerrard, I think, is their best shooter. Riise, Hamann, Alonso, Garcia, Kewell are all equally good, but the one who makes his living out of shooting the ball is Gerrard.
