I think Flamengo is hitting some good form right before the Brasileiro, which is great. Luisao has been great so far, and now that Fernando is back in defence we have been letting a lot less goals in.
Sao Paulo obviously has a better team, but I think they might underestimate us ;)

A little historic about the competition...
The Série A is the main division of Brazilian football. It's presently composed of 20 teams, of which the bottom 4 teams from Série A being relegated and the top 4 teams from Série B are promoted.
Since 2003, the Série A has been disputed in a double round-robin format. In other words, each team plays against each other home and away, and the team with most points is declared champion. There is no final match, what is a very controversial subject. Prior to 2003, the Brazilian championship has traditionally been decided with some type of playoff format (most commonly the "Octagonal", where the top 8 regular season teams comprise a single elimination tournament), rather than the European model of points accumulated over a season. Although some purists complain that this system lacks the drama of playoffs and finals, the championship has so far shown to be well balanced, without the limited number of clubs dominating the league as found in many European leagues.
In 2005, each team played 42 games, 21 home and 21 away, for a total of 462 games. The champion and runner-up automatically qualified for the 2006 Libertadores Cup. The third and fourth placed teams may also represent Brazil in the Libertadores by defeating foreign clubs to be determined by Conmebol in pre-tournament trials. The champion and 5th through 11th placed teams also win the right to represent Brazil in the Copa Sudamericana, another South American championship of lower stature. The four last ranked teams (19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd) were relegated to the following year's Série B.
Teams currently playing:
Atlético-PR,
Botafogo,
Corinthians,
Cruzeiro,
Figueirense,

Fortaleza,
Goiás,
Grêmio,
Internacional,
Juventude,

Yes. I think he is...
and...
No I would not.
Because São Paulo have Maurinho (the best "lateral direito" acting here to me. He´s recovering from a injury) and Reasco (from LDU and Equador NT) and a lot of people says that he´s awesome.
But Léo Moura is very good too. One of the better without think.

I agree with you. Maurinho is definitely the best lateral direito in Brasil right now. It's a shame he left Cruzeiro. Hopefully we can bring in Gabriel (who is in Malaga now). I think he has the skill to be better than Maurinho.

wow, 4x1 against atletico mg.... see what i can't understand is how this team is up and down...they need to be consistent...playing very well against Guarani and winning 5x0, then playing an apathetic football and losing to Sao Paulo and now playing amazingly again. If they keep hitting that offensive and full-spirited note I think they can get somewhere this time

True, it is rare to find anyone these days that play for the love of the game. They may say the love the game, but they are mostly likely getting paid handsomly or are looking to be paid handsomly.
I was having a discussion with a Corinthiano the other day, and he wanted to buy Lenny since they have the "money." If anyone knows American baseball, Corinthians is the New York Yankees of Brasilian soccer. Lenny on a team with Nilmar and Tevez?

Yeah, Lenny from Flu. He is short, yet a quick player. He can dribble real well and he can place his shots accurately. If you do a search on a video site like YouTube for "Lenny", you ought to be able to find some of his goals. The goal he scored against Cruzeiro in the Copa do Brasil was very nice.

I wouldn't say we were inconsistent. We had a couple "reserve" players playing for us and faired decently. We actually DOMINATED the match, but just couldn't get a goal. Those are always the most frustrating losses. Another thing that added to the frustration was the fact that the referee missed a BLATANT PK call and instead gives Obina his second yellow card. We played with 10 men for half of the second half and still continued to pressure Inter.
Next we have Atletico-MG at Mineirao and then a derby match against Botofogo. Luizao should be back for the Botofogo match. I am not sure if I'd rush him back for the Atletico game, maybe have him come on as a sub later on.
As of now, this would be my ideal lineup:
---------------------------------Diego-------------------------------------
-----Leo Moura-------Renato Silva------Ronaldo Angelim----------Juan--------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------Jônatas-------Léo---------------------------------
------Walter Minhoca------------------------------------Renato----------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------OBINA---------------Luizão----------------------------
Like I've said before, I believe El Tigre doesn't want to play for Flamengo anymore based on what happened with the check and his current form. Hopefully he proves me wrong and snaps out of this bad phase and returns to a goal scoring machine. I honestly believe we have a mid-table team and can earn a spot in the Sul-Americana. There are clearly worse teams in the league than Flamengo in my opinion..

Although the ref may have blatantly and purposely miscalled fouls, I think that Flamengo can't always be relying on freekicks and/or penalty kicks in close games. Did they create more chances than that obvious penalty kick opportunity? If so, why couldn't they capitalize on them?
Its a shame that he didnt give us that penalty...but consider this: even if he had given it to us, Flamengo wouldn't have come out with a win...it would've been just another meager 1 point added. We need wins and we can't always use the ref as the scapegoat. Create the chances and capitalize on them so that in the case that the ref is a real bastard, we can still come out with a win.

The problem is that they are to weak as visitors...
They was defeatead in São Paulo and now in Porto Alegre.
In home (Rio de Janeiro) they appears to be more strong.
I think the "cariocas" teams will be better this year.

They did create more chances, they DOMINATED most of the game. Like you said, they failed to capitalize on several oppurtunities which was very frustrating.
A tie against a GOOD team on the ROAD is a good result in my opinion. We lost in Sao Paulo and Porto Allegre, but they were all by only ONE goal to really GOOD teams. I agree that you need to beat these teams at home once in a while in order to be an elite team, but I don't think we are close to that level of course. I am quite certain that we could beat teams like Parana (a solid side, not the best), Ponte Preta, teams like that on the road.
On another note, I hope we get another centreback because we had to play Fernando since Renato Silva was out with an injury. Fernando caused the PK that gave Sao Paulo the win and he was the one that caused a foul in a dangerous area for a free kick for a goal in the Inter game. Both of those goals that Flamengo lost were on set shots.
Also, a measly point here and there can amount to a lot of things. A point can be the difference between getting relegation, or getting a Sul-Americana or Libertadores spot. If my team is in a situation were it can get a point, I'll take it, even if it is just one.

Sao Paulo and Inter are some of the TOP teams in the league so it is no embarassment to lose to them by ONE goal on a set shot (PK and free kick). I believe Flamengo could fare well on the road against teams like Parana, Fortaleza, and Ponte Preta..teams like those. I think they already proved that they can compete with top teams on the road, although both of the results were very unlucky.
I think Flamengo and Botofogo will end up being mid-table teams. Fluminense can be a top table team if they play up to their ability consistently. Vasco is probably a tweener, either a team likely to get relegated or just above the zone. We will see how things play out this year..they all may fare better than Palmeiras:D

i'll admit that losing 1x0 against Sao Paulo is not terrible...but losing 1x0 to Inter when they were playing with reserves, and when we were DOMINATING the whole game, then thats disappointing. Saying we played well doesn't do it...we need the points in the end, thats all that matters.
