This is great news for the Azzurri and Roma ;)

Francesco Totti is closing in on a return to training following the leg injury he sustained against Empoli in February.

The striker had been expected to miss up to three months of the season after undergoing surgery on the injured leg, and his World Cup place in the Italy squad was believed to be in jeopardy.

Although the 29-year-old Totti still is some way short of match fitness, the news of his return to training is still a boost for his club, Roma, as it chases the last Champions League spot in the Serie A.

"We believe that by April 20, Totti will be able to start working with the athletic trainers," Prof. Pierpaolo Mariani, who performed the surgery, told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The injury has progressed more than we had expected."

I've been hoping he's not going to be fit for the WC, when I saw the injury I thought no way. I hope for his sake and Italy's he recovers and gets his form back.

But for the US and me, who finds him a bit of a punk, I hope he doesn't quite make it :)

I'm almost positive he will make it and will have an awesome tournament. He has matured so much and has so much talent, that he will be an invaluable asset to the Azzurri

Totti is brilliant. Looks like Italy are gonna go far again. I'm predicting an Italy/England final. Italy will beat Argentina in semi, we'll beat Brazil...wahoo!

Brazil has a city living in the shadow of a huge Jesus the Christ atop a mountain with arms outstretched like a goal keeper recieving a penalty. When Brazillians sweat, the smell like football.

I've written them off a couple of times to date. Big Jesus made me eat me words.

Rio de Janeiro!!

ON totti, he's great and all, but I think the NT will do better without him. We pulverized Germany with a 4-3-3 formation, but if every Italian Coach wants to insist they work the team around him, don't expect Italy to get past the semis.
