That is one shallow list. Did chelsea representatives replace arsenal's for this season?
Henry is selected but not ruud considering both have scored 21 goals and arsenal are measly 6th. Ok i will turn blind eyes.

add to it the fact that lampard has been shitting on his face for most of this year
but blind eyes and mountain dew for me too ;)
as for who's gonna win it, once again:
WC year, English lad, Killer performances......no way rooney ain't winning it

The fucking Idiots ignored Ruud when he has played better than the Egg-Head and his team is above Egg's team.

actually that is exactly it, he disserves it because of how well he has played, especially last sunday, a performance which ahhemmmm someone ahhhhemmmgunnerfanahemmmmmm refuses to recgonize.
actually if you want to see some subjectivity:
The fucking Idiots ignored Ruud when he has played better than the Egg-Head and his team is above Egg's team.
subjectivity. well personally i don't think ruud should be on the list, unless it is instead of joe cole. ruud is a great player, i love the guy, but he hasn't been as influential as the others on the list. deal with that fact. Goals alone aren't enough to call you player of the year. It is performances like those against liverpool, and arsenal that gives you that. Where was Ruud in the first 60 minutes of Sunday's game? fucking invisible.
even if he doesn't score, he just wasn't there. my definition of player of the year has a large element of, the player who most motivated his team, when his team needed him most. in addition, is a touch of genius.
Henry for instance has had more touches of genius, but i don't think he does a very good job of motivating his team (compared to rooney or gerrard). If anything i think at times this season he has had an opposite effect (arrogance intimidates younger players to handoff to him). Gerrard and Terry are on that list without a doubt. When the chips are down, chelsea turn to Terry for guidance. Gerrard is usually also there when you need him.
The Rock if your arguement is that Ruud should be there above Joe Cole, I would agree with you. But he shouldn't win.
Rooney within the scope of my definition is at the lead, followed by Henry, Lampard, Gerrard, Ruud and Terry.
Stop knocking Henry, the dude is fucking amazing.
Wayne Rooney to win, Henry is an amazing player i think a lot of people would agree, which will make it a lot sweeter when he moves to barca when arsenal dont qualify for the CL next season.

It's a tough one this year. I think Rooney just gets my vote, but it's pretty close between all of them. Joe Cole has been playing well this season but I don't think he's been the player of the year.

I dont think he has played enough and/or done enough to be in the list. Same goes for lampard, he has been absent for last 4 months but i dont mind him on the list.
My evaluation off the top of my head.
Lampard - The most scoring midfielder in EPL. Was outstanding until about January. Might have become tired as of lately.
Gerrard - Has been quite consistent throughout the season but never as influental as Lampard.
Cole - Has been acclaimed to finally found his right style of play this year. I think it's a hype. He's not done much better than Robben and Duff. This is the player I would have first evicted from this list.
Terry - Consistency incarnate. Scoring goals, defending briliantly, but also has Cech, Lampard, Essien, Makelele around him to help defend. Not as important as Lampard.
Henry - Only foreign player on the list. Got injured. Came back form injury to didn't really start making an impact before after a while. This is also a dubious nomination, even though he is playing maybe better than ever right now. But this is Player of the Year, not of the Month.
Rooney - Good contribution, but have many off days. To be honest I find it strange that he's nominated in front of Nistelhorse. He should work on increasing his goal efficiency - he has the same goal tally as Frank Lampard. Young Player of the Year, but never Player of the Year.
Up until now. Lampard would be my choice.

well considering the amount of shots lampard has per game as well as the frequency of deflected shot that happen to go on target, its no wonder he's the highest scoring midfield. the guy shoots from nearly anywhere and hes got a good boot on him but that doesnt mean he deserves to be player of the year. i'd like to say rooney should be but the truth is henry is still at the pinnacle of english football. alas, rooney is quickly catching him :D
and these players are the most obvious candidates...what about the likes of kevin nolan and a number of players who have been inspirational for bolton, or darren bent whos been fairly consistent all season. maybe even harewood whos been a surprise packet.

I have been reading some rubbish about lampard. Lampard has only beeen poor for one month what the fuck are you guys on about he hasnt played well for 4 months. The guy is everything to chelsea an last weekend proved that when he pulled a pass out of his asss from the half line to start the comback. He has looked poor snc ethe barac 2nd leg where the hell does this 4 months come from.
This is a perfect list for me. Each one of these players have clearly been better than the rest.
Terry- not as good as last season but still has had another good season with his consistent displays.
Joe cole- what can i say but since last january this guy has surpassed duff and robben it is so clear. This guys ability is ahead of those guys. Imagine if jose wasnt so much of a dick an allowed him to play less restricted.
Lampard jus pure class i have never seen a guy come up clutch so often. He does everything well , the best player on the best team.
gerrard - the best central midfielder in the game period.
Henry has had better statistical season's but this season he has been a leader for this young arsenal team.Only problem with henry is too often this season he an arsneal did not show up away from home.
Roooney- The MVP.The best player this season.

basing it on the whole season (and not on patches of awesome form), henry will win it. he carried arsenal during the first half of the season and has the highest goal tally out of all the others. rooney is probably the people's favorite though and might win it, but he'll probably win the young players award instead and come in second in this one. terry will be third, he's been great too this whole season.

I dont get why anyone whould choose Rooney over Henry. Just look at the statistics:
Henry: played 2390 min, 22 goals, 8 assist
Rooney: played 2901 min, 14 goals, 11 assist
As a striker your job is to score and set up goals, and no doubt Henry has done a better job than Rooney.

I agree with most that Wayne Rooney will probably win, and deservedly so. Nothing says that the guy with the most goals scored should win. I certainly wouldn't pick Eto'o over Ronaldhino. Eto'o scores so many goals, because of Ronaldhino. So I think Rooney will win, although my vote would go to John Terry. I like to call him "the model of consistency". Tough, gritty player who gives 110% every match.
Oh, and yeah (before someone points it out), he is on my list of favorite players. So, I am a little bias, but I still think Wayne Rooney will win it. Oh, yeah, just to piss off some other people, I watched LA Galaxy vs Chivas today, and I still say MLS futbol "sucks bigtime".:p

Gerrard would be my pick. When the man is in form, he's the best player in England. Period.
Nobody can have such a positive impact on a team performance in England like Gerrard.
Rooney does this well too but he's no Gerrard.
Yeah, the Galaxy Chivas derby was the only thing good MLS had going for it, now that it's a boring game too, we have nothing left
Except the occasional stunners in the midst of a boring game

I have to agree, but I wont give my vote to him, although I would want to (as a liverpool fan). The reason is Wayne Rooney, only 20 years old and incredibly influential and consistent for his team. I would say he's been more important for united than Gerrard has been for liverpool.
So I'm going for Rooney.

People are overlooking Arsenal a lot, because of their poor performance in the Prem, but Henry is still league top scorer, and single handedly scored the goal that got Arsenal into the CL quarter-finals.
His goals this year have been nothing less than spectacular and always at clutch times.

i thought the footballer of the year was for a player that played consistently and brilliantly through the season that shaped a teams season and culminated in achievement. john terry has been outstanding for chelsea leading them to a league title, rooney on the other hand although he is undoubtedly a great talent did not do enough in my opinion to win the award, he did well in the carling cup final but was anonymous in too many games, the clear winner for his performances in istanbul, cardiff and for scoring over 20 goals from midfield is stevie g. what a player what a leader, and top scorer for england in the world cup. A true leader of men. Then next england captain.
