Thought this would be a good thread to start up........... What if your opinion about the performance of referees in England?

I personally think they're awful.... the wreck the game and make you ashamed that you watch the league....

Your opinion?

Everybody makes mistakes, and it's not easy (or even possible) to judge a perfect match, supporters are blind when their team gets decisions against them..

Au contraire, oh slippery one.

We have had some shocking decisions against us this season, good goals disallowed, a bucket load of incorrect offside decisions, and playing with 10 men is becoming more common than with 11.

If that is ref favouritism, I'd hate to see what happens when they start treating us the same as everybody else!

jeeeeesus...dont watch a lot of bundesliga do you...now thats shitty refereeing...they disrupt the game a lot and they´re really strict on anything physical. my girlfriend doesn´t know much bout footie but even she says the english refs (and football of course) are miles better

german referees generally blow the whistle every time the goalie kicks the ball up the field and two players go for the header...drives me insane

I agree..... all the refs hate Chelsea.. Not nice, are they playing ballet to give such bad decisions?? If they trated them well..... I'd say every game's a winner... maybe.

its the man utd fans who shouldnt be complaining, how many times have they received dodgy penalties in the past, and C. ronaldo should have been booked countless times for his play-acting

I'd say amazing quality..
I know it's tough sometimes, when decisions go against You, but they usually do the right decisions imo.
If they're not amazing then who are?
i.e. in La Liga I hate when they can't control the racist chants by fans, so they're definitely not the amazing ones..
don't follow Serie A that close, so can't actually comment on that & for the international tournaments they sometimes choose very arguable referees.. i.e. WC 2002 and the mexican? referee.. ridiculous..

then there's the UEFA CL of course, which should have the best refs, but I can't really say that they're better than in EPL, so I'ma go with the 'amazing' option :)

Yes they hate Chelsea BUT I can understand it...
It`s mainly because of what our boss/mafia did to Frisk... :(
Anyway...even the haters won`t stop us from winning the title this year...
Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea !!!

P.S. All in all... I think that the referees are good in England...
Better than in Spain...much better !

The refs are doing a good job.

But, sometimes they make mistakes, they are human after all.

It's a very difficult job to do, we should start introducing things like goal line technology and video evidence should be available to assist the refs.

Although it would slow the game down, there would be less complaints and bitching during the game/after the game.

i'm sure everybody complains about the offside rule, they need to computerize it by putting gps chips in their shoes or something high tech..the sideline referees
have enough problem trying to figure out what color the shirt was of the player who put the ball into touch, much less trying to work out the geometry of the current offside rule. Instant replay would be nice, but if it works like american football forget it..

somebody apparently did a research paper on this topic, which i haven't read yet :D but it is titled:

"Are football referees really biased and inconsistent? Evidence from the English Premier League."

you can find it here: http://www.citebase.org/cgi-bin/citations?id=oai:eprints.otago.ac.nz:55

It looks interesting..if somewhat scientifically worded to impress whoever gives out grants at the University Of Otago School of Economics.

Most do a good job, sometimes they make STUPID decisions though. I mean stuff that is just illogical. But that said, they are the best

They might make the odd mistake, but compared to Italian and Spanish refs they are much better. I have no problems with most of the English refs.

I said "mistakes at times"
but i feel nobody is perfect and evrey ref makes mistakes at times...

what? i think you need to actually base your oppinions on things that actually happened. like your teams continuos cheating and terry getting away with any chelllenge he wants. and the ronaldo thing - he isnt half as bad as robben because ronaldo actually goes down as a result of bad challenges and him travveling at speed. and also look back at hom many of your goals were from penalties this season and how many we had. ;)

i dont support chelsea
but from a neutral standpoint i can say that ronaldo is the same as robben. and RVN is even worse than ronaldo enuf said

I say nothing wrong about them. Because I have never seen an English ref who has favoured a club more than other. Sh*ts happen, and there's nothing to control it. All the refs are doing is their job, what's the price on perfection? Certainly their mere salary is not enough!
