Michael Owen is a shock inclusion in Newcastle's squad to face West Brom on Saturday.

The England marksman has not featured since breaking a bone in his foot against Tottenham on New Year's Eve.

His progress has been steady, but he was thought to be over a week away from returning to the squad.

However, Newcastle made the shock announcement on Friday afternoon that Owen will be on the bench at the weekend.

What, if any, part Owen will play at the weekend remains to be seen, but his inclusion will be a huge boost to both Newcastle and England.

The Magpies have problems up front, with Alan Shearer unlikely to play again due to a knee injury, and Owen's return will give the players a massive lift as they continue their push for Europe.

England chief Sven Goran Eriksson will also have a smile on his face, as Owen will now have the chance to get some games under his belt before the World Cup finals.

Owen back in action

errrrr, no. Owen will be on the bench for most of the game, which in my book doesn't count for much action.

that's like saying having a wank is getting laid.
