Villa has been amazing for Valencia this season. His pace and fighting spirit remind me of Rooney. Today, his hatrick in 6 minutes gave Valencia the 3 points in a very difficult game where Canizares was the MoM til then.

Spain's got a great center forward for the WC and beyond.

David Villa is much better than Rooney. His stats bear testimony to the fact. He has scored goals and in a fashion that leaves us admiring his abilities. Wayne Rooney at the moment is only a "great prospect". What he can acheive remains to be seen. Rooney has a lot of talent but whether he can deliver has to be seen. An even better prospect than both of them combined is Aguero.

sish it's...To infinity and beyond

villa is just awesome for me, scores a lot of goals and some great ones too and has come up at the right time for Spain. Him and Torres will be a great pair at the WC but i don't see that happening as Raul will always play :(

PS: saurabh Villa > Rooney don't think so, football isn't about stats only or else Ruud will be the best CF in the world but lets not ruin the thread with a useless argument :)

he's a deadly finisher
I'm impressed by the way he just never gives up until he scores the goal
but you gotta think it'll be difficult for him to sneak into the starting 11 with the likes of raúl and el niño torres in there
gotta say spain is pretty stacked this time around

Villa is great. My friend really wants to have him at Liverpool but we both know that we probably couldn't afford the ridiculous price that would undoubtedly be put on him as a result of Chelsea's name being thrown about in his future speculation. (not blaming chelsea, its the media)

Much better than Rooney? ahhh.. No don't think so.

Rooney only a prospect? wha?? As much as I'd hate to admit it, he was a prospect 2 years ago.

Raul barely deserves to start for sunderland, let alone spain... oh wait, aragones effect. Yeah you are right raul will start.

to be honest is see villa as an amazing srtiker, i could never deny that.

but you cant compare villa to rooney, rooney is like a couple of players rolled into one. he never stops running, defends all through the match, creates more chances fo the team than he takes for himself.

if villa was spain's version of rooney then spain wouldn't be able to win anything without villa.

you cant compare Rooney and Villa. They're two completely different types of players!

there have somethings in common though like they both can pass the ball, I think Villa have 5 assists and they're both very techniqual and always gives 110%. But again they're gameplay is very, very different.

22 goals this season in the league so far for Villa is more than Torres and Raul combined. If Villa doesn't start in the WC Aragones (Spain's manager) have to be fired

BTW the hat-trick was scored in 4 minutes 47 seconds and can be seen in full here:

Watch it Vip, you're going to get all of the Rooney lovebirds buzzing. :p

Villa's performance has been remarkable this season. He's one of the few players who has been able to carry a quality goalscoring record from the Segunda into the Primera. What's even more amazing is that much of the time Villa is the only creative weapon that Valencia possesses. He's not the prototypical striker or lone forward either, so it will be interesting to see how much more dangerous he can become if Valencia recoup Silva and Gavilan from loan, and add some of the rumored pieces such as Juanfran and Milito. I really think he could become a legitimate 30-goal scorer if he didn't have to constantly dribble through five players - and have the other five clutching his shirt.

In a sense, it is pretty obvious many would defend Rooney. The key words are "Spanish version" ... the games are different in both leagues. Most peeps haven't watched Villa play much, Valencia had no European games, etc

But it is precisely in your description, that David has to fight his way to goal against 5 defenders, that I find his power and ability similar to Rooney's ... he finds his way to score despite it. Of course Rooney is not playing the CF spot at Man Utd ... but does end up in that position thru out the games.

I still haven't seen a Rooney goal from half the field thou. :D

I don't see villa defending as much as rooney does. I've seen rooney play an odd 6 or 7 matches this year and he hustles up and down the field being a nuissance to the midfield as much as the defenders...Villa i've seen a similar amount of matches and I think he's got the same offensive prowess as rooney - but perhaps not as much a total footballer. I might have not seen a good enough sample of both to make a good judgement though...

I think the Athletic match showed a good example of how Villa defends. On multiple occassions he was tracking back and tackling as well as clearing on corners and free kicks. Valencia were under it most of the game, causing him to defend more and more.

I don't think he's got the Power the Rooney has but he does possess the tenacity. But he's more of what Michael Owen was 4-5 years ago (back shoulder, opportunistic, quick and can finish). Rooney likes to drop deeper and is more of a link player.

I don't think the 2 players are compareable, but if I had to choose - Villa it is! Thinks he's a great player, almost too good for Valencia.
