AS-Madrid (http://www.as.com/articulo/futbol/Atletico/ficho/ayer/sorpresa/Aguero/dasftbA00/20060428dasdaiftb_3/Tes/) is reporting today that the agreement is complete between Atletico Madrid, Independeinte and Aguero. The transfer would be for $20 million and the contract for 8 years.

In the past 2 days, in "De una con Niembro" on La Red, Fernando Niembro had mentioned that negotiations were close to reaching an agreement between the parties ... even thou no details were revealed.

It seems we'll see great Madrid derbies. :D

I've seen this kid a few times on Golazo and its quite scary watching him rip players nearly twice his age. Good luck to him i hope he doesnt turn into a cheating messi type of player.

Wonder where Torres is going then? I think that is the only way they will be able to fund the transfer. Seen highlights off him and just like mentioned above it is pretty damn scary. Argentina brings up another great talent. And we have Palleta :p na na na...

If he turns into a Messi, Athletico Madrid will have gotten a monster deal out of this. I've never seen him play, is he really as good as messi - or even have the potential?

rofl, who said messi cheats? mourinho? he was just trying (and failing) to save face
dead issue my friend..messi does not dive

anyhow, I like this move for agüero
definitely a better fit for his style of football and the right madrid team to go to at the moment
imagine him playing with kezman and rosicky..I see european football in their future

Great sign for Atletico Madrid. I thought he was going to play in a big european team (Barça, Madrid, Chelsea...), well at least we'll see it in Spanish League. He is going to be a star, so Atletico should take care of him.

I heard about this late last night - pretty shocking. As of now, Atletico look pretty strong for next season:

----------------- Franco ----------------
- Molinero --- Pablo --- Perea --- Pernia -
----------------- Luccin ----------------
- Rodriguez --------------------- Petrov -
----------------- Rosicky ---------------
---------- Torres ------- Aguero --------

Then again, Atletico always look good on paper. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Torres and Petrov leave, though, with a couple of targeted players like Makaay and Solari replacing them. Still, not too shabby, although perhaps a replacement for Luccin is in order. They should have gotten a package deal for Biglia and sent Ibagaza the other way. ;)

A Chelsea fans accusing someone of cheating, priceless.

yeah, torres is likely to leave..it's why I said kezman-agüero as the front line
but where? I suppose that deserves its own thread
is rosicky confirmed? I've always wanted him to leave germany

Great, can't wait to see more of this kid. I would have preffered him to go to a Champions League team though.

VIP mentioned great Madrid derby's, I would actually be more looking forward to them playing against Villareal (because of all the South Americans, especially Riquelme) and also Barcelona (then we can end the Messi-Aguero debate when they play each other)

Makaay aint going anywhere. He just signed a 1-year extension for his current contract that keeps him at the club until 2008.

Messi cheats? He is one of the cleanest players ever...He never complains when he gets fouled and just stands up and keeps playing. The only time he rolled on the ground was when Del Horno bulldozed him...please:rolleyes:

BTW I think Aguero is not going to Atletico de Madrid, Julio Comparada (The president of Independiente) said that it was all rumours..

Aguero will go to Athleti only if Liverpool don't bid for him. It is possible if Athleti sell Torres to Liverpool or Valencia sell Villa to Liverpool. And Liverpool are only going to start transfer business once the FA Cup final is over (at least the Premiership is over). So, until then we will have to wait over Aguero's future. He wants to join Liverpool, Liverpool have the money, but it is up to Rafa.

Aguero himself made it clear in the media that he wants to play for Liverpool. But, as I said Liverpool are yet to make a bid. Whether we are interested in him or not is not clear, but he has made it clear that Liverpool are his first choice. The news is quite old now, I had posted it here.

I've heard, from not necessarily reliable sources, that Torres is going to Arsenal. I heard he was best friends with Reyes or something and so he'll probably end up there. That's totally unconfirmed, though.

I have heard that Wenger is making a bid. Its not unconfirmed, Reyes had made a statement that he was asked for his opinion on Torres by Wenger.

This would be a very good move. I was afraid he might end up in Bundesliga or EPL where he would be wasted IMO. I hate when a talented player is asked to change the way he plays just to fit a certain system, this does not help the player evolve.

Him and Torres would be a great strike force. Especially if Torres starts playing to his potential ( like he is doing since the start of the year). Aguero is still too young, maybe it was better for him and for his club to stay few years in Argentina. At least now I get to watch him every week :)

cheating?! really! please provide clips to show us this 'cheating'..

also, with negotiations not yet complete, there is still a chance that other teams might get him. I bet there are a few big ones in the mix still as well. It seems an unlikely place for Kun to end up.

See'ings i'm still fairly new to the sport, has AMA bought big name's in the past?

Good point, I really can't remember them buying a big name player. They've always gone with home grown talent and lower league Spanish talent.

And also I think that a big team will definately join the race for this guy, and when they do Aguero will always choose a Real Madrid over Athletico.

Atleti spent massive money on Juninho, Vieri, and Hasselbaink several years ago, but since returning from their stint in the Segunda, the club has been a bit more reserved with its cash. Of course, they're not exactly filled with it, so...

thank you very much for that Mosesmalone. :) Exactly the type of post i was hoping to see in reply to mine. So they have been in the market for bigname players before, but this time around they're hoping to not shoot themselves in the foot by signing guys they cant keep, or dont turn out.

Villa Real was willing to pay around 20million for him in January...I wonder if they're still in the race?

Juninho was really the only player that "cost" Atletico. Middlesbrough bought him on two separate occasions and it still came to less than what Atletico paid to buy him from the English club in the first place. The club made a profit on Hasselbaink and Vieri (to Lazio and Chelsea respectively), however, so despite the large amount of money the spent on both players, there was really no loss - well, other than the goals of course. ;)

It was never really that they signed bad players, or couldn't pay to keep them, but the relegation at the end of the 2000 season really hurt the team. At the time the club had to sell Hasselbaink, Valeron, Baraja, Solari, and Molina, all of which have become pretty substantial players.

I'm a bit surprised they've manged to dig up the funds to bid for Aguero, but they're probably going to sell Antonio Lopez, and perhaps Kezman and Petrov should a decent offer come along. They also have about a billion players out on loan - many of which are fringe players - so they can break even pretty easily by unloading some.

Pellegrini said Villarreal have other holes to fill and are not desperate to land Aguero anymore, which is something I agree with. The team has several positions needing talent and depth, and with the possibilty of no Europe next season, it probably wouldn't be wise to blow so much money on one player - even as much as I like him.

I see the argentine league every week and I have to say that this kid is phenomenal, he can change the outcome of the game all by himself. I was shocked to see him get transfered at this stage of his career since Tevez was in Boca for a longer time and won so much more things before Corinthians finally was able to pay the asking price. Aguero is amazing but has not won a damn thing with Independiente. Nevertheless I am glad that he went to Atletico and hope he does not turn out like Messi and starts picking up constant injuries like him. Most of the time I seen this kid play he is either dead center as a shadow striker or on the left skinning ppl as Ronaldinho does week in week out. So I dont think that Torres has anything to worry about, the one that may be out of a job is the likes of Ibagaza or Lucin.

Constant Injuries? jajaja this is the first time Messi has had a semi-serious injury in his career. Keep in mind that he has been playing in the first division for about a year...

Everyone here is talking like this is a done deal, but the last news I saw was:

“By no stretch of the imagination has any deal been closed,” said Independente president Julio Comparada. “I saw this story was published in Spain, but I do not understand why.”

“When the Argentine league tournament is over, we will consider the offers for this player, and then we will see. Until then, Aguero is with Independiente, although (one day) it will be impossible to hold him back,” Comparada said.

Am I a bit late...or are many of you premature? (Comprada has admitted that discussions have taken place with Atletico.)
