Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has today confirmed Robbie Fowler will sign a new one year contract at Anfield.
Fowler will put pen to paper on the deal next week after impressing since his arrival from Manchester City in January.

Benitez said: "This is fantastic news. Robbie has done really well and he deserves this.

"He has scored some vital goals for us and he has worked really hard. I am delighted to have him with us for next season. He is an important member of our squad."

Cisse and Pongolle are most likely to go along with Mellor. I am not sure if we need Zenden either.

Excellent news. 20 goals from Robbie next season? Hopeful, yes, but it could happen.......

Not sure who is going but I reckon Cisse has already one foot out the door. That being said Rafa may spring a surprise by keeping everyone but I doubt that will happen. It was our striker's barren spells in the middle of the season that cost us a shot at the title. Coincidentally, we played both MU and Chelsea away during that period. Had we been firing on all cylinders when we met them the league table might look a little more different

My heart wants both Mellor and Pongolle to stay and be a success but seeing as we're going to be aiming for the title we won't have time for them to slowly make the grade. If they're not up to it now I think Rafa will be letting them go. Sad but true :(

Anyway this thread is about Robbie so congrats to the lad :) I am well chuffed for him as he's been working real hard and his goals have shown that he still has what it takes. His ability has never been in question and his eye for goal is second to none. Hopefully with a full pre-season behind his belt his sharpness will increase and we'll get to see more goals from him. YNWA Robbie! :)

so fowler stays, i suppose this means cisse (the wasted talent at pool) is on his way again.

you guys sure have wasted some very good young talents at pool, poor cisse, wins that super cup for you, and you kick him to the curb.

if we had a player who could score from near the corner flag, we wouldnt let him go!! :p

Did you see the goals? Hehe :D One of them was a handball and the other was a horrible finish where the rebound fell kindly for him ;)

He doesnt suit Liverpool. I reckon Mori and Cisse will succesful else where though. He just has speed but no talent, hits the ball with no composure.

I want Cisse to leave and I have been critical of him since day one. We can again keep talking about his lack of close control, shooting hard at the keeper etc.

But Akibo makes a very valid point that leaves me questioning my instincts.

Cisse has scored the goals. Akibo is right.

But for fucks sake he just doesn't look right!!!

I don't know I'm confused. Hence this smiley ------->

I know what you mean, he scores the goal but maybe if he wasnt there liverpool as a team would score more goals and play better. His speed is only valuable when teams play high up the pitch or chasing the game.

Yeah freako, i guess the conclusion i'll come to is that it won't be wise to sell him unless we get a decent replacement. Unless Rafa is willing to spend $10m plus - I don't know if it will be worth it to be honest. But I sure hope he will.

By the way, what do you think that chick is doing with her left hand near her face??? I've always wondered.....

Absolutely delighted that Robbie got his contract. He truly deserves it for all the hard work he's put in. Hopefully he'll get a decent pre-season under his belt, stay injury-free (fingers tightly crossed) and score a shed load of goals for us next season. Go Robbie wooohooo!!!:D

I went out and got totally smashed the night he returned to Liverpool and I think I might just make a night of this one as well...Cheers!

Nah mate, he's got no talent. Yes, he's fast....very fast, but that's it. Look at the goals he's scored, all of them just blasted (except for the one at Goodison).

Cisse's an athlete, not a footballer. You can have him at Arsenal if you want. As I've said in another thread, swap him for Henry? :D

I know what you mean mate. As a footballer he looks utter shite (even I'm more skillfull than him, HA! :D) But the thing is he IS our second highest scorer. However I think if look more closely most of his goals have either been against poor teams (CL qualifiers) and even a few penalties. I'm not saying he scores useless goals as all goals are useful but... sheesh now I'm getting confused

I guess his goals are the total opposite of Garcia's, so maybe he's not a big game player. And as you might have noticed, his goals have been scored when the team plays to his strengths (ball over the top/through ball when the opponents are defending high up the pitch) I haven't actually seen him score while being involved throughout a good Liverpool move. Does that make sense? I think I need to go lie down now...

Yeah mate don't want to sound too rude but I know all that :) (it still sounds rude even with the smiley! haha...)

Yeah, nah, you're right. Too frustrating for the return on goals.

My sidetrack (thanks to Akibo ;) ) only lasted about 5 minutes. :D

Congrats to Fowler, he bloody deserves it too! Regarding Cisse- first touch worse than a brick wall, he wont be showering in the Anfield lockers next year dont you worry lads ;) . . an extra fullstop so you chaps quit the Cisse talk and start chanting FOWLER FOWLER FOWLER IS GOING TO SCORE HOWLERS HOWLER HOWLER...well maybe something else ;)

I think it's Moro that's leaving. Rafa will probably get one winger and one striker and Cisse will get a run at the CF spot with Robbie/Crouchinho.

Cisse has done ok considering the mins on pitch and the position he had to play. I think his role/performances has been similar to that of Luis, they play mostly as subs and both can be brilliant and crap in equal measures. He's set up many chances to Crouch in particular but too tall just can't put them away. Now that Robbie is staying, we will get shit loads of goals next season.

i read about this a couple of hours ago. i really do hope that he does well. as he clearly does love Liverpool. shame he never showed the same commitment towards the England cause.

A combination of awful injuries and managers who overlooked his talents (read Sven and Hoddle) meant that Robbie never got the England opportunities he truly deserved. Him alongside Shearer, Sheringham or Owen would have been awesome. Ah well, c'est la vie. Still, as I've sung many times before on this forum, he still managed 7 in 11 or 12 starts which isn't bad at all.

i agree. he's had 8 since january. started what 12-13 games? good pre-season, good diet, we could be watching robbie gearing up for a late spell like shearer or sheringham.
