I thought this was a good article Zidane speaking the truth about the Galactico policy Perez had.

Zinedine Zidane says Florentino Perez's division of the Real Madrid squad into separate classes depending on the importance of the players had devastating consequences for morale at club.

The former Real Madrid president famously claimed that his recruitment policy at the club was based on "Zidanes or Pavons", supplementing big-name players like the Frenchman with products from the youth team such as centre-back Francisco Pavon.

But Zidane said that such talk and the labelling of some players such as himself, Ronaldo and David Beckham as "Galacticos" had created severe divisions in the dressing room.

"I think it was a shame that people talked about Zidanes and Pavons because it's clear that it divided the team," the midfielder told Spanish television station Antena 3.

"That was very bad for the team and the people who talked about 'Galacticos' and all that created big problems for us."

Zidane also said that the collection of big egos created further problems for the team. "The problem is that there were a lot of very strong personalities in the dressing room and that damaged communication. We didn't talk straight to each other as people thought they might upset each other."

Zidane added he was deeply disappointed by the team's failure to win a major trophy in the last three seasons, the club's worst run of form in over 50 years.

"We got things wrong and what hurts me most is that we haven't won a trophy," he said. "It's difficult to win all five trophies that are at stake but not winning a single one is what really hurts.

"Maybe it's unfair for me to retire without winning anything but it was better to leave."

Zidane will play his last match for Real when they travel to Sevilla on Tuesday, a game they need to win if they are to make sure of securing the runners-up spot behind Barcelona.

He will then hook up with the French national team for the World Cup.

Right agree with him. Perez did some right things but too much is too much.

he might feel that he's quiting, because he has such a competitive personality, and the expectations where high when he got to RMA. I think everyone understands his situation, and only feels love for him. How can you not!? He's just such a class act. Right up there with Steve Yzerman(NHL) and Ronaldihno(although ronnie smiles more these days ;) ).

It sucks when theres to many spices in the pudding, and it all gets spoiled. :(

also thats why makelele left, because galaticos make a set wage as well as the pavons. and the galaticos make 2-4 times more htan the pavons. he was afraid if he gave makelele more money, hed haveta pay all the other pavons more. bad move in my opinion. we really could have used him.

also luxembergo selling all the wingers was a bad move. ugh. it will get better though. i believe in the whites

yup, makelele left because perez didn't want to listen to him when he asked for a raise. perez was thinking that the galacticos would be able to balance the void left by makelele. guti who was an excellent striker for Real in pre-galacticos era had to play in the defensive midfield position. had Real not let makelele go, i don't think they would end up the last three years without any silverware :(

i dont know why we are still talking about perez, that era is over... its time for us to move on and look forwards and to begin a new era of real madrid an era which we will c the club be the best again.

forget the past, learn and move on

because i think we still need galacticos, maybe they shouldnt be segregated and called galacticos, but you cant deny that they were the best group of players to have in one team on the pitch. and now that zidane is gone...what are we going to do :(

"Galacticos" is not good for a team on the field but it's good on the market
... noone has done a good move since Vicente Del Bosque left, either Perez or Luxa

Clearly this "Galactico" thing is just something that doesn't work. Corinthians in Brasil did the same thing by bringing in Tevez , Mascherano, Carlos Alberto (Porto), Nilmar (Lyon), Gustavo Nery etc, and they just got knocked out of the Libertadores and are near in mid table in the Brazilian league. Granted they won the league last season but that was only after a series of unlikely events including many games that had already been played getting cancelled because of the ref scandal.
