Facts
• Sweden have reached the FIFA World Cup finals ten times and can look back on a strong history at the finals. The pinnacle of Swedish achievement came in 1958 when they reached the final on home soil, after dismissing the defending champions Germany in the semi-final. But their opponents in the final, proved superior as Brazil defeated the Scandinavian home side 5-2.
• Twenty years earlier the Swedes had claimed fourth place in the 1938 FIFA World Cup. After their success in 1958, Sweden failed to qualify for the next two tournaments. In 1970 their campaign ended in the first round, in 1974 they went one round further. In 1978 they returned home without a win.
• Swedish football re-ignited in the 1990s, culminating in third place in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

very nice thread Bruun :)
alltho i have some small things i wanna correct.. maybe stupid but..
We have joint managment between Lars Lagerback and Roland Andersson, if you ask them who is the boss they allways answer that there is a joint partnership..
And we actually hit the 9 million point :D
other than that.. its fine

This is my only constellation since denmark are not playing this year, there are so many familiar people from the danish league, and I've always liked sweden's styles of play (compared to norway!), which reminds me of Denmark's style. Hope elemander gets to play

Today Kim Källström signed for Olympique Lyon and Kalle Svensson (the fourth choice center back behind Mellberg, Lucic, and Hansson) signed for Glasgow Rangers. Watch out for Källström in the WC!

More transfers before the world cup? According to Swedish papers Elmander is going to Glasgow Rangers. No papers have been signed yet though..

How confident are the Swedish people of a good run in the cup?

How confident are the Swedish people of a good run in the cup?
Not that confident because our defence is not as good as it was 2 years ago.
Having 3-4 world class players in the team is not enough when there are leaks in the defensive line.
Even if we end up as number two in the group, as most of us think we'll be able to do,
we'll have to meet Germany in the knock-outs and that's not an easy option.
What I want is a win against T&T and Paraguay and many goals scored from our players, then the game against England will be very entertaining. I can only hope for a draw there. England looks like they are on the right path, so you could be choosen to upset the host nation - instead of us. We want to play Poland.
But the swedish people... what do they think....
well some of them think we're going to win the cup.

I am all for swedish babes :D but your team is not going anywhere in the World Cup. Too much arrogance and over confidence will kill the swedish squad.
Sorry but thats how I see it. :(

There are no guarantees that Germany will top their group if you think Sweden are heading for the runner's up spot in Group B. (or that England will top the group):)

No, but I won't bet against that both England and Germany will win their groups.
Maybe I should, that could give me some good money. :)

England and Sweden will come in first and second in this group, then England will meet Poland, and win (although it's going to be a tough nut), and Sweden will face Germany and then it all stops there - with 2 against 1. On the other hand. If we win the group, everything could go from there. I'm not seeing us going far, but I said that in 1994 too. On the other hand, I'm the only one who thinks Argentina is going to win the enitre cup this years... So don't believe me. England could go far, after Poland they'll take on Portugal (my guess after a 1 - 0 win over Serbia). England wins with 2 - 1, and then meet Brazil and goes home, beaten in a 3 - 1 game. England then wins a 3rd place game agains Italy =)

It's not likely that Poland will qualify... I hope we will do better than them tonight.
This is Lagerbäck, the swedish manager, he is ready... are you?

ok, after today's fixture, please, tell me why Linderoth deserves to play and why he's better than marcus lantz? or why alexandersson is playing there in that position, or why the fuck largerback does what he does...simply a scandal.

Mate... wanting Lantz in the squad is fair, but it isn't going to happen. Lantz already told Lagerback how he feels about his decision on playing Linderoth and that is it. Unless Sweden fires Lagerback, Lantz will not be in the squad.
Bloody shame though, 'cause Lantz is ruthless on the pitch. I love him to bits! You should see some of his tackles for Brøndby. Crazy... He is just so professional. He tackles hard and when he receives a hard tackle he just gets up. He never gets angry even when he gets slaughtered. Just gets up and walks away without looking at the player.

um, i think most swedes will agree that linderoth is the most important player in the squad.. all the stars are replaceable, linderoth is not. He does an outstanding job covering the area between the defence and midfield. A Swedish Emerson if you will...
Regarding Alexandersson i totally agree with you. He sucks and should be replaced.

************* SPOILERS *************
It's time to post a photo of the starting team that held England down to a tie yesterday.
Well done. The victory, which we had hoped and wished for, wasn't that far away.
We will face Germany with some positive thinking in our minds after that great second half.
