QLD people: SIGN THIS!
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the reluctance of the Queensland Events Corporation to help bring the Australian Football (Soccer) team to Queensland is a major disappointment to a significant number of residents. Football (Soccer) has the highest participation and support base rates of any sport in the world and this is reflected by the facts.
• Bureau of Statistics figures show that more children aged 5-14 are playing Football (Soccer) than Australian Rules and Rugby League combined.
• 98,000 people are expected to pack the MCG for Australia’s next international friendly.
• In the 1997 NSL Grand Final, over 40,000 attended Suncorp Stadium to watch the Brisbane Strikers defeat Sydney United.
• The Queensland Roar boasts the second best attendance figures in the Hyundai A-League national competition.
Those attendance figures are equal to any sport in Australia or anywhere in the world, and would give great exposure to our state both nationally and internationally without even factoring in the associated economic benefits.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to (through Queensland Events corporation) reassess its current position on attracting International Football (Soccer) matches to Queensland. This change will in effect see this Government Portfolio incorporate a pro-active stance on obtaining competitive international matches as per its long-term strategy of bringing major sporting events to the state of Queensland.

Sorry dave, can't help you with this one... I like how we will selfishly hog all the international matches here in sydney for the coming years :D :p
EDIT: I've tried to sign it but on the second page it says I have to provide a Queensland address :(
You guys are dominated by Rugby. Love to help. Want football to be the number one sport in all states!
Can't sign the damn petition. They don't seem to recognise a Victorian postcode. Typical Queensland.

Great first post mate - I see you'll be a real asset to this community  I fail to see the irony - If you knew anything about me you'd know first and formost I'm an Englishman in Australia and I support the aussie football team a hell of a lot on this site. Where's the problem with me wanting to see aussie internationals in the state I live?? I look forward to future posts from yourself but please try and step up the intelligence level - its embarrassing.

Thanks dude - I think it will happen soon. The local paper said there is now a bid in place to get internationals up here. Appreciate your support

Actually, my comment had absolutely nothing to do with the English stuff in your sig. Read what I said again. You post about a particular STATE which is MISSING out on international football games.
Because you misunderstood my post I won't take offence to the comments about intelligence ;)

THE QUEENSLAND Government and Football Federation Australia (FFA) have today announced the news that thousands of eager Sunshine State football fans have been waiting to hear.
On Saturday October 7th the QANTAS Socceroos will take on fellow 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers Paraguay at Suncorp Stadium in the Powerade Cup. The match will be the first time that Brisbane has hosted the national team since 2000.
FFA have indicated that most of the Socceroos’ top European-based players will be available for the game which will be held just days before the final Asian Cup qualifier against Bahrain in Sydney on October 11th. A near full strength Socceroos squad is expected for both games.
Queensland Roar FC Chairman, John Ribot, said it was fantastic news for football fans across the state and beyond.
“The Queensland Government have played a huge part in securing this match for Brisbane and they have shown great initiative in recognising what this will do for the code. This further enhances our relationship with the State Government and sporting events on this scale will encourage healthy lifestyles for men, women and children, which is a great message,” he said.
“The Socceroos achieved such tremendous success in the recent World Cup and captured the hearts and minds of everyone in the country with their heroic performances. This game at Suncorp Stadium against Paraguay is further evidence of the growth of the game and the Queensland Government should be commended for supporting it the way they have,” he added.
Ranked 19th in the world, Paraguay finished 3rd in Group B of the FIFA 2006 World and will prove to be strong opposition for Graham Arnold’s men. With many of the FIFA World Cup squad expected to be present, Ribot said it was a great chance for local fans to see a game of the highest order.
“Just to have the Socceroos here would be a boost on its own, but for local fans to see a full strength Socceroos side play against a strong South American outfit just makes it even better. Suncorp Stadium is a fitting venue for a match of this calibre against a side ranked in the top 20 in the world and I’m urging everyone to get behind this and enjoy what is set to be a fantastic event,” said Ribot.
An interview of someone on Fox Sports News said that they will be using mostly A-League players rather than European based players.

That sounds like it was probably about next weeks Kuwait game. The Bahrain & Paraguay games are sanctioned FIFA dates and therefore the clubs must release their players up to 5 days before (I think that is the deal?)

Yeah the article I posted earlier says it will be full strength sides so I think you're right :)

Argh, you got one of the good ones too Davey, darn you and your organised efforts!
I'm going to the Kuwait game and that'll just be the a-leaguers, which is fine by me since I'm going for the atmosphere more than anything, but it still would've been nice to see the world cup heroes here in Sydney where, lets face it, the more important, intelligent and coooool people live. Honest. :D

Would love to mate, it would be brilliant, but I can't afford such luxuries at this pov student stage of my life. :(
I could possibly ask for it as my birthday pressie from my friends (they always ask me anyway) but I've already pencilled in the new liverpool kit for that.

Congrats Davey, QLD is a great state and I have been to Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Far North Queensland many times. I would love to go to the match but unfortunely like Lonso I am a student and cant afford it. I am very dissapointed though that the Lebanon match here was cancelled, I understand why because frankly the Lebanon teams families are more important. Just dissapointed as I havent seen the Socceroos live in person. I am sure I will make a trip in the future to Melbourne if I have to. I also think FFA shouldnt be so Sydney centric + selfish and give people in Perth & Adelaide a chance as well. It is the national football team after all.
Congradulations Davey, happy for ya mate! Got what you asked for. AUstralia vs Paraguay doesn't sound to shabi either.
