He's just missed his flight back to Germany and Man United's lawyers have turned up at the hospital. Is this normal?

I think its going to be bad news for England and Rooney.

"Rooney's club, Manchester United, announced on their website at 1945 BST that a "decisive" scan result "will be announced this evening"."

They were saying he's gonna miss his flight, regardless of the scan outcome, hours ago.

He did not miss his flight...the flight was supposed to take off at 20:00 BST...not its slotted to go at 20:15. Thats all. Everyone is at the hospital to discuss the results and make a decision. No big deal.

I totally disagree - England have shown and proved their quality already without Rooney. He is just going to add to that quality and because he had a fractured foot only just recently, expectations will be naturally lessened... this may be a blessing in disguise for him because the hype before the injury was getting ridicules...

Rooney gets World Cup green light

Wayne Rooney has been included in Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad, BBC Sport understands.

Rooney appears to have won the race to prove his fitness after breaking a metatarsal in his right foot while playing for Manchester United in April.

He has left on a flight back to Germany - which is due to land at Karlsruhe near Baden-Baden at about 2200 BST.

He had earlier spent two hours at a Manchester hospital while doctors studied the results of an earlier scan.

Alrighty, then!

I think the panic is over. He's on the plane joining the squad.

I am not sure if winning against Jamaica really proved anything.

No matter how good players england have, Without rooney its really almost impossible to win WC.
to be safe side , I said Almost :D

I hope Rooney come back atleast for last group match.

we dont have to beat Jamica 6-0 to show our quality... and "Without rooney its really almost impossible to win WC." The key word here being "almost"

and we ALL hope he is back... and mate, it looks like he might be :D

Oooowowo this is Very good.:) if this gets official -
Psychologically – it will boost the mood in the team. AND since we already accept the fact that he will not be ready for the group stage – it is even better – because now you enjoy the thought him being around for the later stages (while he’ll work on getting fit ).

But we should remember the time that it took beckham to get back after the same injury in 2002: he played since the first game, but he wasn’t fit 100%. Against the game with Brazil he said that the foot was really hurting him.

England is impossible to win the WC, with or without Rooney, that doesn't matter at all.

It would be better for SG to leave Rooney at home. At least there will be some good reasons to explain why England loses this year.

whatever happens. i have to say the media attention has been massive. eitherway united will sell more jerseys and rooney will become an even bigger star.

Man utd just came out with an official statement 11 minutes ago stating that they think there is a good chance of him being fit.

United said there is a good chance he will be fit after the group stages. I say just leave the boy home, take defoe instead. Rooney might be one of few players who dont need match practice but surely he cant do miracles in first match he plays in. Plus, what if another England partnership prospers, then rooney will sit on bench. Just give the boy rest and send him home.

What if he can indeed do a miracle off the bench in say, a quarter-final match?

And what if a partnership doesn't prosper and England's attacking options run limited?

I'd prefer Wayne Rooney over Jermaine DeFoe as an insurance policy, because Wayne has shown he has the game for a major tournament.

Fairytales and tragedy are made of such stuff as this... and I would take either of those over banal mediocrity any day. SEND THE BOY! Surely! A World Cup without that possibility is a poorer world cup.

He's a footballing genius in the making. 10 minutes of Rooney could make the difference.
