I don't think so. Sweden match would have been necessary for match fitness. You'd have seen practically the whole side as it was today minus any with slight knocks or yellows. Walcott would have been subbed in early for sure though to give him a feel.

wait i dont understand what you are saying. were we going to play this against trinidad? or is this for sweden, if its for sweden, its probably to keep our players healthy, but because i dont think the game matters too much because idont think well haveta face germany (unless they muck up badly)

I disagree...

Sven would not have rested Owen - the last thing he needs is rest!! Ashley Cole also would have played from the off as he doesn't look that good either right now and Rooney would have played a larger part because he needs to regain fitness and sharpness.

Gerrard, Lampard and Crouch may have been rested as they are on yellows...

But this is all conjecture because Sweden won...so now we have to at least draw to win the group...and we need to gain some momentum after two very poor displays...and a first win over Sweden since 68 would also be nice...

what are u talking?? i tihnk it was about 80% possession for England!!!

i would have loved to see Lennon start the match! maybe Eriksson will use a more defensive side! maybe Carrick and Jenas replacing Gerrard and Lampard.. they are afterall still top class players too.

second of the group meet first of Brazil's group??

If Sven plays these three against Sweden then he is stupid and deserves harsh criticism.
England needs all three of them in their game against Germany/Ecuador.

Let's see the England B-team + Owen and let Rooney rest. That's my advice.

My point was that if Sweden-Paraguay had ended up as a draw, then the standings in Group B would've been:

England 6 pts.
Sweden 2 pts.
Paraguay 1 pt.
T&T 1 pt.

So England would've finished top of Group B regardless of the results of the last matches. But it's all a moot point now.

lplover2k, Group B winner meets Group A runner-up and vice versa.
