Juve appoint Deschamps as coach

Deschamps joins Juventus as the club faces an uncertain future
Former France captain Didier Deschamps has become the new coach of Juventus as the Italian club remains embroiled in an ongoing match-fixing trial.
Deschamps, who won the 1998 World Cup with France, has signed a two-year contract with the side that will be valid until 30 June 2008.

The former Monaco boss replaces Fabio Capello, who quit last week to join Real Madrid.

Juventus are among four clubs facing the threat of relegation from Serie A.

Deschamps said last month that the side had asked him to join as coach if they were relegated to the second-tier Serie B as a punishment.

No decision has yet been made on any relegation

Awesome! Though I've always hated Juve (club rivalry), I will be fully supporting them through this difficult time.

I don't want to downplay Deschamps skill as a coach, even if I don't really know how good he really is, but I would have liked to see Donadoni instead.

Then again it prolly won't matter in B or even worst C.

Deschamps speaks out

“I feel enormously happy right now. I’m really pleased to have come back here, to Turin, to coach a team like Juventus”.
Having signed a two-year contract this afternoon, Didier Deschamps expressed his satisfaction at his new post, and wasted no time in giving the fans an insight into what he expects of his team: “I am part of Juventus’s history as a player, and the fans remember me as I was on the field; perhaps I wasn’t the most spectacular player, but I always gave the best that I could, right until the end. The team needs to have this same mentality: to always believe in themselves. To do this, we have to ensure that we have everyone’s support.”

did alright is an understatement! he took them all the way to the CL final in 2004, (beating Real in in a very memorable return-leg game [morientes with a back-heel goal if i remember correctly? ).

Very excited at this news, especially having an ex-Juve star and natural leader.

The fact that he is an ex-Juventini is excellent. I hope we see good things come from this news. :)
