We've been following Barca's first ever Icelandic player over his first 24 hours at the club and listening to his first impressions.

Gudjohnson told the club web site: "I've been surprised at just how big the club is. It's all been a really good surprise."

Early start

Gudjohnson's first day at his new club began at 7.45 with an early morning wake up call and half an hour later he was picked up by a club car to take him to the Nou Camp for a series of medical tests: "I met all my new teammates when I arrived for the tests. The first day of pre-season is pretty much the same at all the clubs I've been at, with maybe a few different things. After we got changed ready for the training session, we had a little bite to eat to recover from the medical tests. I must say that I've tried lots of different cuisines, including the Spanish and at lunchtime my wife and I went back to the hotel and had a bit of pasta for lunch".

Feeling the heat

After a few weeks' holiday, Gudjohnson came to Barcelona last week and he admitted that the heat was a bit of a shock: "for someone from Iceland like me, the temperatures are a bit high, but I'm getting used to it". As far as his first training session with the team went, Gudjohnson explained: "at Chelsea we never trained in public, though we did use to have fans come around when I was at PSV".

Meet the players

It's always a bit difficult to integrate into a new team, but Gudjohnson believes: "although I don't know the rest of the players personally, I've come up against tehm a few times over the last few years. What's more there's Sylvinho in the squad, who I remember from his Arsenal days, and he speaks good English, as does Oleguer". The Icelandic striker is himself a fluent English speaker and is already learning Spanish, but apart from the language question, he particularly noticed "how happy and fun Ezquerro is in training".

Unknown face

During his interview with fcbarcelona.com, Gudjohnson was also being photographed for the next edition of the BARÇA magazine, though he is still something of an unknown for the many tourists at the ground today, who were heard to ask, "who's that blonde boy in the Barca shirt?".

:) happy to see that hes liking life in catalunya.

Nice. It's a shame Premiership lost a good player.

Who would've you preferred B-Love....Forlan or Gudjohnson? I mean both are equally good. Or EG is better than DF?

guddy 100% over forlan.. i dont really like forlan much. far too inconsistent and who knows if that pichichi winning season was just a fluke or not? other than that he really hasnt accomplished much in europe.

plus eidur is way more useful and versatile.. forlan can do one thing, and he cant even do that well all the time

Rumours were Eto'o will leave due the racist fucks and his replacement is Eidur. Is it true? I mean they have calmed down a bit, but you never know. Who will be preferred? Messi or Eidur?

Maybe Eidur was sent to play badly in CL so that Chelsea win :D (J/K)

eto'o is going no where.. those rumours are ridiculous.

eidur is the replacement for henrik larsson, he will be directly replacing him in the scheme of things. depending on his merit and how he adapts, we shall see how much he gets to play and how he will be used. most likely he will be the #1 or #2 offensive sub along with giuly.

the front line is set in stone... ronnie --- eto'o --- messi.

At times, Eidur could also be a replacement for Deco/Van Bommel. He should see a lot of playing time ... afterall, Barza are playing for 6 official trophies this year:

Spanish Super Cup v Espanyol (2 games)
European Supercup v Sevilla (1 game)
Club World Championships (2 games?)
La Liga (38 games)
Champions League (13 games?)
Copa del Rey (8 games?)

I'd also take Eidur over Forlan ... he plays more than one role in the team, which makes him also more versatile than Larsson was.

I've never heard Eidur set a wrong foot in anything he's said, I really admire this guy and hope he does well at Barca and cracks consistent playing time.

I need to see him play however as the only Barca image I have of him in my mind is that of the press photos where his ass is eating his pants

I've been seeing on Mexican news channels that Barcelona will also unleash Giovanni Dos Santos this season.

the only thing I didn't really like is when Xabi Alonso challenged him and got another yellow card even though it wasn't a foul(he ended up missing the return CL leg). Other than that though, I'm glad he's away from Chelsea, I htaed seeing both Drogba and Kezman being preferred over him.

Barca have got a bargain I reckon. I remember under Raneri when he played week in week out with Zola or Hassle, he would always pull these flicks and tricks. I don't understand why non of the EPL team went for him. I definetly wouldn't have minded him a Liverpool shirt.

Have heard and seen promising things from Dos Santos.

Holy crap! That's great news :D He's every bit as good as Messi IMO.
