We've been following Barca's first ever Icelandic player over his first 24 hours at the club and listening to his first impressions.
Gudjohnson told the club web site: "I've been surprised at just how big the club is. It's all been a really good surprise."
Early start
Gudjohnson's first day at his new club began at 7.45 with an early morning wake up call and half an hour later he was picked up by a club car to take him to the Nou Camp for a series of medical tests: "I met all my new teammates when I arrived for the tests. The first day of pre-season is pretty much the same at all the clubs I've been at, with maybe a few different things. After we got changed ready for the training session, we had a little bite to eat to recover from the medical tests. I must say that I've tried lots of different cuisines, including the Spanish and at lunchtime my wife and I went back to the hotel and had a bit of pasta for lunch".
Feeling the heat
After a few weeks' holiday, Gudjohnson came to Barcelona last week and he admitted that the heat was a bit of a shock: "for someone from Iceland like me, the temperatures are a bit high, but I'm getting used to it". As far as his first training session with the team went, Gudjohnson explained: "at Chelsea we never trained in public, though we did use to have fans come around when I was at PSV".
Meet the players
It's always a bit difficult to integrate into a new team, but Gudjohnson believes: "although I don't know the rest of the players personally, I've come up against tehm a few times over the last few years. What's more there's Sylvinho in the squad, who I remember from his Arsenal days, and he speaks good English, as does Oleguer". The Icelandic striker is himself a fluent English speaker and is already learning Spanish, but apart from the language question, he particularly noticed "how happy and fun Ezquerro is in training".
Unknown face
During his interview with fcbarcelona.com, Gudjohnson was also being photographed for the next edition of the BARÇA magazine, though he is still something of an unknown for the many tourists at the ground today, who were heard to ask, "who's that blonde boy in the Barca shirt?".
:) happy to see that hes liking life in catalunya.
