Tacchinardi got a second yellow, Gonzalo got a straight red for dissent, and Forlan got a second yellow for throwing a punch.

Four red cards in two games to start the season. Awesome.

Just when VReal was getting back into the game everything goes to hell. Too bad Riquelme wasn't playing. So VReal isn't going to be playing in European competition this season it looks like.

Villarreal felt the frustration of knowing their form was below average ... combined with the impossibility of breaking Maribor's defense, resulted in silly reds.

The red on Taccinardi was fair play ... he got a bit late to a tackle and was sent off. Gonzalo came into the game in the 2nd half ... and received a straight red when the score was 1-0 with 5 minutes to play and in an attacking play!

Forlan then lost it completely ... he punched the rival twice, once for the red and once again, punching around the ref! Diego lost it completely.

In between those 2 reds, Maribor scored the equalizer ... the defense was playing with 2 after Gonzalo was sent off.

And lastly ... Nihat deserved a red in the dying seconds of the game after reacting against a rival by pinching his nose in front of the ref.

Maribor is a very limited team ... yet played against a team that came too soon out of pre-season, who found the lack of physical response and the lack of team work their worst enemy.

Villarreal will certainly bounce back in La Liga and Copa del Rey, but missing Europe will make a huge dent in the economy of a "small" team.
