Inter Milan awarded Italy 2005-6 Serie A title
ROME, July 26 (Reuters) - Italy's soccer federation has awarded the 2005-2006 Serie A title to Inter Milan, a federation official told Reuters on Wednesday. Inter, which had not won the title since 1989, finished third in last season's championship behind winners Juventus and AC Milan. The decision to award the title to Inter comes after a sports tribunal handed down guilty verdicts to Juventus and AC Milan following a match-fixing scandal.

glad to see cheaters get their just punishment
and your club is squeaky clean...
Congrats to the Inter fans, though I don't think this is the way they envisioned ending their scudetto blight.
This upcoming season should be interesting...

Maybe it's just me, but if I was an Inter player/staffer, this would leave me with a very hollow feeling. Not one of victory at all.

I was just wondering if Inter would hold any sort of celebration because of the title award. At least now, if they don't win the Scudetto they can blame it on the pressure of defending a title :D

You think? Im am just sooooo furious at Milan and Juve:mad::mad::mad:
It is only right that we get the trophy rather than not giving it to anyone, but fucking Milan and Juve just piss me off:mad::mad: (especially considering the "punishment" they got)

Definitely agree. This can't feel too good can it? After so long without winning this is how it finally happens?

congrats to zanetti and the rest of the argentines (and 'il uruguayano' recoba)
we've waited a long time :D
edit: I think the fact that they're innocent and that it's been taken away from their bitter rivals is absolutely glorious for them and their fans

Tony1097 at bigsoccer calculated last years Serie A without the 4 accused teams included:
you throw out the games that involved the 4 cheater teams, and you get:
Inter 66
Roma 59
Chievo 48
Palermo 46
Livorno 43
(rest less than 43 I stopped after Livorno)
That's an interesting way of looking at this mess.

Inter proud to be champs
Inter are celebrating their first title since 1989 with Nerazzurri players eager to express their joy for what they consider as a well-deserved success.

You can laugh all you want at Inter, but at least they didn't use bully-tactics to corrupt the entire referee system.

They should be more proud than a team that cheated to win it. I mean it's not as if they had to, Juve could have won on their own with the team they had.

Juve could have won on their own with the team they had.
we will never know...
in theory, it was a good team with the capacity to win...
but so did Milan and Inter..
all good teams have strong squads...
you still have to play good to win..
you don't win because you have an all-star lineup...
hence the reason why Moggi did what he did...he wanted to ENSURE juve won regardless if they played good or bad...

congratulations, I guess? nice to win the scudetto after this long, but the way it happened kind of leaves a sour taste in the mouth (due to no fault of Inter's of course). I'm sure Inter's fans would rather won it straight up, but hey you take what you can get :D

No one will really celebrate this scudetto. We are glad that we were assigned what was due to us but in the end,the win will not be celebrated. The only thing is that we will have the tricolor embedded on our shirts, and that is nice!:D
We will have to try to do our best next year in order to win it on the pitch, since that would taste much better.

Arent you being a hypocrite? I dont give a fuck about reputation anyway, but I just noticed you gave me one for the same thing you are unhappy about others:) (if it really was you, I guess its easy to just use someone else's name..

Grats to inter!! nice to see them win something. It seems now for a few years their work ethic didnt allow them to consistantly play better than the other major teams...and the ref's! :D :p
Nice to see them have some fruits for their ethics, and their work. :)
Congratulations to Inter! Of course they deserve the win, they were the best team. If you won victories by cheating, those victories are worth less than nothing. That's the same in all sports, like when an athlete gets caught doping. The best team wins, and last season that was Inter.

Firstly, handing the title to Inter (which had a poor season) is a joke!
The whole system in Italy is f**ked and they used Juventus as the escape goat. The trial never included any match mixing from 2005/2006 season, so why take away Juve's title for that year. Then the trail was too short with not enough time for the defence to put something together. The punishment was handed out by personal that are Inter & Milan fans. There was never any actual proof that anyone fixed any games, what happened to innocent till proven guilty. Juventus will take their complaint to the Lazio Regional Administrative Tribunal (TAR), hoping the judgement delivered by the Federal Court last week can be blocked until the full case can be heard in a non-sporting court of law.
Until now, the Italian Football Association (FIGC) have kept the scandal in house, using their own legislation to punish the clubs and persons involved in the match-fixing scandal. And as FIGC is so corrupted itself im sure Juventus will get more joy from the TAR!
Im not saying that Juve are innocent in all this but 90% of seria A teams are not innocent themselfs, so why punish just Juve for this.
And just one more thing, Inter were also dragged into this scandal at first but that faded away very quickly ;)....why no questions!
If anyone should be punished, its should be the FIGC! A whole new system needs to be put in place!

for the people who have been brainwashed by the 'media', i think you need to read this before you jump into concluions. props to James Micallef.
the referees accused of fixing Juventus matches were all absolved of any wrongdoing. The only referee banned (De Sanctis) was done so for a match that neither involved nor affected Juventus.
- There was no proof that Juventus fixed a single match, and the court of appeals president admitted as such publicly. The court nevertheless relegated Juventus to Serie B for 'fixing the whole 2004-05 season'. They have yet to explain how it is possible to fix a whole season without fixing a single match.
- Juve were revoked their 2005-06 title even if there never was even any suspicion of wrongdoing in that season. The interim president of the Italian federation Guido Rossi, who used to be a member of Inter Milan's board, assigned this title to...Inter Milan!!
The press and pundits who had built up the whole case were the same people who looked the other way when Inter were playing a player with a false Italian passport to bypass the limit on the number of foreign players (Alvaro Recoba), and when Roma's president sent Rolexes to all the referees for Christmas a few years back. Neither Inter nor Roma were ever penalised for these incidents.
They are the same people who are still looking the other way now that AC Milan are still in both Serie A and the Champions League after their club official was intercepted in a phone call to a linesman directly asking him to favour AC Milan. None of the Juventus officials' phone calls intercepted (on which the case against them was built) was even made to a referee or linesman.
Juventus being relegated to Serie B had been decreed and known even before the sham trial began - the judges were reappointed by the aforementioned Mr Rossi just before the trial, and to make sure that the accusations stuck, clubs were not allowed to either call witnesses OR bring any evidence for defence (with the excuse that there wasn't enough time - fair trial isn't it?). After three months of media frenzy fed by people of Sheridan Bird's ilk in the press, public opinion in bars up and down the country would never have accepted a judgement favourable to Juventus, so Juventus were sent down regardless of the evidence available.

Yes your right......you are stupid!!!
care to elaborate and answer my question instead of immature personal attacks??
since you want to be smart, you explain to me how you will get "direct evidence" of match-fixing???
especially of the nature in which moggi was doing it. if you are choosing refs to help you along in games, what kinda evidence would you deem as "direct" evidence of match fixing??
you give an example scenario where it will be "clear" that there was match fixing...

Confessions, receiving gifts, money changing hands....
confessions, yes, but gifts and money is still not direct evidence
my point is, match fixing is decided by assumption and deduction...not by direct evidence...
you assume that because money changed hands that something fishy was going on...however, there is no distinct link between money changing hands and fixing a match....
btw, i am sure that when the wire taps were released, there was one set of conversations where Moggi was asking if one of the refs had received the maserati he sent to him...
i dunno, but i think receiving a free maserati can be considered a gift ;)

so what happened to the ref who received the free maserati ? i dont think any of the refs have been punished ... they should take away the maserati and give him a '72 fiat instead .. kinda like going from serie a to c1 ...:D
