Well I was hoping Bielsa would come back but I guess I'll just have to settle for Basile anything better than Pekershit. ;)
Basile to coach Argentina for second time

BUENOS AIRES, July 31 (Reuters) - Alfio Basile has been named as Argentina coach, his club Boca Juniors said on Monday.

Boca president Mauricio Macri told reporters he had agreed to release Basile in September after meeting Argentina Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona.

Basile will replace Jose Pekerman, who resigned after taking Argentina to the World Cup quarter-finals where they lost on penalties to hosts Germany.

The 62-year-old Basile takes over for a second time.

He was previously at the helm from 1991 to 1994, when he won the Copa America twice -- in 1991 and 1993 -- and led Argentina to the second round of the 1994 World Cup.

can't stand the man
what he lacks in strategy he makes up for in pure balls to put all of the big names on the pitch and play offensive football..but he never has a plan b
I don't think we can win 2010 with him at the helm
I would have opted for gallego, ruggeri, or burruchaga

Sometime after winning Copa America, but before starting World Cup qualifying, it would be wise for him to quit.

So Pekerman made one mistake and u really think he's shit? I personally think that if he'd stayed with the national team, the youngsters who he's worked with for YEARS would only get incredibly better.

I concur.. he made a fatal mistake in the world cup but lets not forget how he turned the team around and made them the most exciting in this WC!

I'm not going to say that Pekerman was awful, but he certainly wasn't great. His record was 14-6-7, which, when projected to a similar total, is considerably worse than either Basile's, Bielsa's, or Passarella's.

Pekerman only took a little over 60% of possible points, whereas Bielsa and Passarella both took over 70%. Basile is at a slight advantage because of the scoring system used at the time, but even so, his numbers are still lower than Bielsa's or Passarella's, and if calculated with the current system, are only slightly better than Pekerman's.

I've disliked him ever sence he was hired :) ask anyone here I never liked any decisions he made for the team he was poor no passion Bielsa ruled with an iron fist and kept the whole squad in check he could take any group of players and make them into a winning team his aggressive style on the pitch fueled the team to attack and defend like mad men.

here's the thing about pekerman vs. the three previous coaches
you're absolutely right about their statistics..they certainly trump josé
but pekerman's value was largely intangible in that he built the only team capable of winning the tournament
that came from his experience in building youth sides with an excess of talent and little organisation
this team had both and was the apex of his career
we should have won it, everyone knew it and nobody more than him..which is why he resigned
man, I'm still so bitter about getting eliminated in such an infuriating way by the worst/luckiest german team ever

as for basile you could also say he had a lack of luck, but I still say there was little besides the motivation of the team

well Basile cant be all that bad. he has the experience and I am sure he learned from his mistakes. boca played some very offensive football, always pressuring ect...I like his style. at least he has the balls to play tevez and messi together. lets see how he does at the copa america. I hope he brings some continuity and consistency.

My only hope is that he finally unleashes Aimar.

You just said it in your post mate, Pekerman was "capable" but he never realized this goal of making Argentina World Champion in the senior side. Sure, we played nice football at times, but nice football alone doesn't win championships. For me, a coach who does not win the WC has to leave and let another coach come by. If that coach does win a world cup, then he has another chance to be coach. Should he not be world cup champion again, then he has to let another coach come in.

on another note, this (http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pagina.jsp?pagId=1246080&fecha=20060804) is why you don't let diego near the position
sure you could say he's been provoked, but please
