Just heard a dumbass Aston Villa fan on Talksport talking about all he won was a few cups in Scotland.

HIS MANAGERIAL CAREER STARTED IN 1990 WHEN HE WAS APPOINTED MANAGER OF NON LEAGUE WYCOMBE WANDERERS. DURING A VERY SUCCESSFUL 5 YEAR SPELL AT THE CLUB THEY WON THE FA TROPHY IN 1991 AND 1993, THEY WON THE VAUXHALL CONFERENCE IN 1993 TO CLINCH PROMOTION TO THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE AND THEY ALSO WON PROMOTION FROM DIVISION 3 IN 1994.

AFTER REJECTING APPROACHES BY LEICESTER AND NOTTIGHAM FOREST HE FINALLY MOVED TO NORWICH IN JUNE 1995, HOWEVER HE RESIGNED IN DECEMBER 1995 AFTER CLASHES WITH THE CHAIRMAN OVER RENAGED PROMISES FOR MONEY TO BUILD THE TEAM.

HE BECAME MANAGER OF LEICSTER ON DECEMBER 21ST 1995 AND WON THEM PROMOTION TO THE PREMIERSHIP AFTER THE PLAY-OFF FINAL WIN AT WEMBLEY IN 1996. IN 1997 THEY WON THE COCA COLA CUP TO GAIN A PLACE IN EUROPE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 35 YEARS. THEY ALSO FINISHED A VERY RESPECTABLE 9TH PLACE.

IN 1998 THEY FINISHED 10TH IN THE PREMIERSHIP AND O'NEILL REJECTS APPROACHES FROM LEEDS UNITED AND EVERTON.

IN 1999 THEY REACH THE WORTHINGTON CUP FINAL AND FINISH 10TH IN THE LEAGUE. IN HIS FINAL SEASON AT LEICESTER THEY WON THE WORTHINGTON CUP AGAIN AND FINISHED A CLUB RECORD 8TH IN THE LEAGUE, QUALIFYNG FOR THE UEFA CUP.

This is also for England fans who rate Curbishley and Sam Allardyce yet easily dismiss O'niell because hes never won much hes actually won more than both of them at equally small clubs.

I don't think England fans doubted his quality mate. Its more the fact he isn't English. However, Aston Villa would do very well to appoint him for your above reasons.

I think it's a great move for Villa.....they might get Barry and co. to stay beacause of it. If the club gets taken over then look to see some really solid players in as well. They might well challenge for europe next season. I think this season might be a bit of an ask for even a manager of O'Neill's calibre.

Ooh what happened to your caps key ?

Martin oneil is the best manager in the uk, he has proved it with and without a budget, i always thought after leaving celtic he'd sit tight and get offered one of the top jobs ,"Vllla are very lucky Definetly wil be in top end of table end of season now.

But he nvr left Celtic(due to wifes health excuses) hes on the verge of the push , if he cant sign 6ft players for most positons for Villa his brand of football is useless.

He's a fucking good manager I don't think anybody can deny that. Villa are very lucky to have him - I think it's time he took over at a big club in England but maybe it's a bigger challenge for him to get an average team good.

However although alot of fans would want Oneill to be manager of there club, they would not want McCleish.

I do believe in Scotland during the same period they were there, McCleish won more than Oneill.

I too would rather have ONeill tbh, but just thought I would put that random fact into the article.

I do believe ONeill is slightly overrated mind. He seems to be up there with the likes of Ferguson, Wenger et al; when he is actually far from it...

Oneill is a good manager who works well with limited funds - should do well at Villa on that basis.
