Another injury crusher for Villareal to deal with unfortunately. :(

Villarreal have been dealt a second injury blow in the space of five days, with former Arsenal star Robert Pires joining Gonzalo Rodriguez in the treatment room.

Rodriguez picked up a serious knee injury in a friendly with Real Madrid last week and new boy Pires has suffered a virtually identical problem.

Pires damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee against Cadiz on Friday and he will require corrective surgery to alleviate the problem.

Villarreal president Fernando Roig expects the midfielder, who signed a two-year deal this summer, to miss most of the new season.

"It's the same injury as Gonzalo has," club president Fernando Roig told reporters on Monday. "He will have to undergo surgery."

Pires suffered a similar injury during his time with Arsenal and will be aware he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Fuck, I hate it when the start of the season brings such news. And that too for a new club.

This news suck.

Villarreal had done very well to build the team with the much needed depth early in the transfer period ... and now they have to rush for replacements. I don't see Senna going anywhere ... even Sorin might end up staying.

At least, there is no Europe this season, which could make it more manageable for the depleted squad ... :o

You've gotta feel for poor old Super Bob haven't ya,
First he gets taken off in the UCL Final after less than 20 minutes, is not included in the French WC Squad and now this.

Its parrallel with Edu last season who joined a La Liga club (Valencia) in search of an improved contract and ended up missing most of the season with injury.

Villareal without Gonzalo Rodriguez i Robert Pires loses many of its strength but it's still good team with some chances to be in the leading 4th :)

I was about to say the same thing. Maybe Arsenal has something behind this. Since they already know, they might just inject the palyer a month to the transfer and then let him break down as soon as he gets there.:) :D

Well to sound sensible, I just think it has to do with the training. It might just be a dramatic change for the players that their bodies break down and gives out on them (but it s weird since the EPL is actually meant to be the more physical and speedy demanding league out of both).

Isn't this the 2nd time he tears his ligaments? Is it the same knee as last time?
