Something to do with people showing up in stadiums on time or something about siestas. I heard generally Spanish people stay up late. Of course I am not sure of this...

In the summer, specially during the vacation in august, the spanish people stay up very late. You can see whole families at restaurants at 11 pm or later, from grannies to three year old kids.

One of the reasons is the siesta where people relax during 2 pm and 4 pm so they have the energy to stay up late and they enjoy doing so. The town are full of life and fun in the late evenings - and not only among young people like elsewhere. That's one of the reasons why I like Spain so much. Their 'joie de vivre' is contagious.

Earliest kick off is usually 7 PM local time... some games kick-off at 10 pm or as late as 11 pm. On a very odd occasion I think Barca & someone played some game that kicked-off at 12 am - something to do with days of rest between European & local competition

You have explained very well the reasons....
and another reason could be the warmth, in summer if you play football at 3-4 or 5 pm the warmth is unendurable (more than 30-35 ºcentigrade)
