According to AS, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (president of Bayern, current head of the G-14) has proposed that Ramon Calderon (President of Real Madrid) be his replacement as head of the G-14. Ramon Calderon heard this news last Wednesday during the Trofeo Santiago Bernabeu.

He's hesitant into accepting the proposal because the G-14 is not recognized by UEFA and FIFA and might affect the club's relationship with both institutions

I don't know what's the connection but it was mentioned in the article, Calderon will have dinner (meeting) with laporta next week and discuss the relationship between their respective clubs

--------

Even though I'm a Madridista I don't see why he was chosen. He's only been president of Real Madrid a few months

I'm guessing he has a lot of clout within the G-14 and Fifa/UEFA... Maybe he is the man to actually get them recognized... we'll have to wait and see...

I was hoping someone with a more firm understanding of economics would be head... no offense, but Real wastes a lot of money... :D

Recognized as what?

In September 2000, fourteen founder clubs created the "G-14 European Football Clubs Grouping", an European Economic Interest Group (EEIG) registered in Brussels, making G-14 the first international club organisation in world football.

so to be recognized as by Fifa and Uefa as a governing body/organization that adhere to rules/regulations set forth by Fifa/Uefa...

link... happy reading...

I'm well aware of what the G14 is, what I'm asking is what exactly you expect them to be recognized as?

The G14's concers are those of a small minority of clubs in Europe and can hardly be considered as representative of most clubs or even of those who regularity compete in the UEFA Cup competitions.

a federation or committee that is officially recognized by FIFA/UEFA?

they would have a greater say in Fifa/Uefa's decision making process... more importantly causes Fifa/Uefa to stop dragging there feet when dealing with issues that affect clubs and fans.

These clubs are some of the major money makers, yet they dont' have a say with regards to money distribution, decision making (rules and regulations), issues affecting the clubs and future development of the sport.

the small minority of clubs in Europe are the major clubs... they get voted in based on past CL/ECC and UEFA/Winner's cup wins... regardless of whether they are mismanaged now, they still have major fan bases and are considered major players in club football.

considering that the g14 exists solely to promote the interests of its members,( such as organising a closed-shop euroleague) this is actually a very very good thing.

Even those who regularly compete in the UEFA Cup competitions? The world's biggest clubs are members of the G14, and with the exception of Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and PSG, all the clubs compete in european competitions every year.

And it comes as no surprise that Chelsea fans ,in particular, don't like the G14.

G14 is at ... 16? 17? clubs

The UEFA CL and UEFA cup have more than 17 entrants, so it's clear the G14 does not represent most of the clubs who play European football every year.

This has nothing to do with Chelsea and everything to do with the rest of the uefa clubs not part of the g14. I've been around long enough to know how much a European run means to the club, even if it's not the CL

I can't wait till the G-14 makes their own "Super" League, it'll bring back competition to the real leagues...the only thing that'll suck is not being able to put our annual beatdown of the filths, but FIFA is too scarred to lose money from the big clubs to do this.
