Helsingborg IF - the home of Henrik Larsson
The Union Jack is flying high at the Olympia Stadium in Helsingborg, Sweden along with the red-yellow flag of the region of Skåne (Scania) and the colours of Helsingborg, red and blue. After the great season that Luton Shelton has had there's also a couple of Jamaican Flags waving in the wind.
Helsingborg has a new manager Stuart Baxter, born in Birmingham UK, and the hopes are high that he could inspire the team to lift itself from the middle of the table to the top of the swedish league Allsvenskan. Update: Which he surely has helped the team to achieve since his arrival.
The results after Larsson has arrived are Outstanding! 30 points in the last twelve games.
HIF vs Hammarby 3-1 (Larsson back in top shape)
GAIS vs HIF 0-2 (I was there, it was a great game)
HIF vs Malmö FF 3-1 (the Scanian derby)
Halmstad vs HIF 1-1 (we should have won)
HIF vs Gefle 2-0 (another convincing performance)
Öster vs Helsingborg 0-3 (amazing, we keep winning)
Helsingborg vs Göteborg 3-2 (an outstanding first half)
AIK Stockholm vs Helsingborg IF 2-2 (thanks for the OG)
Helsingborg vs Öster IF 3-0 (no problems in this game)
Helsingborg vs Örgryte IS 2-1 (28 shots on goal)
Kalmar FF vs Helsingborg 2-4 (Henrik Larsson: 2 goals)
Helsingborg vs Elfsborg 1-1 (A draw between two of the top teams)

About the city of Helsingborg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helsingborg
Stuart Baxter began his football career as a player in Preston North End FC in 1968. He later went to Sweden to play for Helsingborgs IF, before settling in that country as a coach. He led AIK Stockholm to become Swedish champions and in 2004 he became manager of the South African national team. Baxter speaks fluent swedish and his son has played for swedish teams. Returning to Helsingborg is a sort of homecoming for him.

He is a bit slower than three-four years ago but his skill and experience still shows. He's a very good 35 year old player.
The first couple of games after the WC he did nothing spectacular but after that he has been the main reason that the club is moving up in the table.
He has been suspended for two games now but will be back for the difficult away match on Sunday against Halmstad.

I will.
Please feel free to ask me anything about Henrik Larsson, Helsingborg

If I could cap with my computer/dvd-player I'd upload a Helsingborg game with Larsson.
Maybe someone else with Canal+ could do us a favour...

Helsingborg IF vs IFK Göteborg
This match is on swedish television right now so I stayed at home to avoid the rainclouds.
At Half Time it's 3-0 and it's Party Time! :D:D:D
Goals: Fredrik Svanbäck, Babis Stefanidis and Henrik Larsson
Let's hope the crushing of the former swedish giants of football continues after the break.
---
Nope, that didn't happen, Helsingborg took it a bit more easy than Göteborg in the 2nd half.
The end result of this game: Helsingborg 3 - Göteborg 2
The game went downhill in the second half, the Ref lost control and didn't see two penalties - one for each team, but managed to give Mariga of Helsingborg two shitty yellow cards and we had to play for half an hour with 10 men. Göteborg came back in a strong fashion the last 10 minutes and scored two goals.
Our coach Baxter was mad like hell that we let that happen. So am I. But it's still a party tonight. :D

There's a very difficult and very important game today at 3pm.
AIK Stockholm vs Helsingborg IF
If we want to win the league we need three points but AIK needs them too for the same reason.
It will be a very tough game, I hope we could continue our winning streak.
The top of the table right now.
1. Elfsborg - 40 pts
2. AIK Stockholm - 40
3. Helsingborg - 34
4. Djurgården - 33
5. IFK Göteborg - 32
We need to end top four to qualify for the Scandinavian League 'Royal League' this winter.
All teams have five games left to play.
*****Update*****
Halftime 0-1 (Luton Shelton)
The result after 60 minutes 2-1
Hahaha... it's unbelievable, AIK scored an OWN GOAL in the last minute of the extratime.

Good luck in the UEFA-cup! Gefle should be a piece of cake for you. I don't know how Larssons contract is written but will he play next year as well? Would sure be nice if you would qualify for the UEFA-cup and still have Henrik Larsson on your team.
Well well, you have to win against Gefle first.

Good luck in the UEFA-cup!
Thanks, it will be a fight to the end with your team Djurgarden to get the third or fourth spot in the League. Maybe it's our turn now to play in the Royal League?
I've read at the HIF website that Henrik Larsson will stay the whole next season according to his contract and the club has also an option for another year after that.
Next season, in 2007, the club celebrates 100 years and then I hope we play as well as we do now - from the start. A good performance in the UEFA Cup would also be nice to see. But first we need to win the final vs. Gefle.

The ÖIS keeper Dick Last was very good today, it could have been a lot worse for Örgryte. According to the match statistics we had 28 shots on goal. Our team is still undefeated since 5th of August. Three games left of the league and we are on a more solid third place right now.
1. IF ELFSBORG - 43
2. AIK STOCKHOLM - 42
3. HELSINGBORG - 38
4. DJURGÅRDEN - 36
5. IFK GÖTEBORG - 35
@Nimme... Come on ÖIS! I hope they'll win their next games!

***Update 26 October***
A difficult away game... we need the win to hold the other teams off.
Final result.
Kalmar FF vs Helsingborg 2-4
Goals: Luton Shelton 2, Henrik Larsson 2
Cheers to Baxter, Larsson, Shelton and the rest of the team!
We have set a new record. 12 games in a row without losing, 9 wins and 3 draws.
The last time the club was this succesful was in 1933, the old golden glory days of Helsingborg.
There are now three games left of the season. Let's make it 15, shall we? ;)
29 October: Helsingborgs IF vs IF Elfsborg (we could rob them from winning the title)
5 November: BK Häcken vs Helsingborgs IF (I'm going to see this game 'live')
11 November: Helsingborg vs Gefle (the Cup Final is played at Råsunda, Stockholm)
The table right now
1. Elfsborg - 46
2. AIK Stockholm - 45
3. Helsingborg - 41
4. Djurgården - 37
5. Hammarby - 37
It will be difficult to win the league but a third place and a win in the cup final would be "ok". The season started in a terrible way but it has gone quite alright since midseason when Henrik Larsson came back and we got ourselves a great new coach!

Our chance to win the league is now gone and we need to concentrate on getting the third place - a draw in our last game will be enough - and of course winning the Cupfinal. Maybe we've also helped AIK to take the title. I would like to apologize to all fans of Elfsborg if that will the case. We know more the 5th November.

It took a white for him, he had it really tough in the start of the season but he played his way into the team and is becoming better each game. I remember two certain freekicks. One at rambergsvalle against Häcken, oh what a beauty. And one against Ifk Göteborg at Nya Ullevi, i almost cried. Scoring such a goal against IFK it just doesn't happen for us! :)
As for the Göteborg rumour, it would not surprise me but it would kill me. I just don't want to see him play for them.. it makes me shiver.

A company called Kentaro bought the tv rights 2006 for an amount of 100 million pounds (1.35 billion SEK)
and then it was handed over to Canal+ and TV4 for a secret amount of money. They are still in control of the rights.

This Helsingborg player, Razak Omotoyossi from Benin, won The Swedish Goal Scoring League.

So how did Allsvenskan 2007 end?
Congrats to IFK Göteborg who are the champs again (after 11 years) and they will be fighting to play Champions League next season.
The final table of Allsvenskan 2007
Team Goals Points
IFK Göteborg +22 49
Kalmar FF +11 48
Djurgårdens IF +15 46
IF Elfsborg +9 40
AIK +3 38
Hammarby IF +4 36
Halmstads BK -8 36
Helsingborgs IF +12 35
Malmö FF +1 34
Gefle IF -1 34
GAIS -13 29
Örebro SK -17 25
Trelleborgs FF -16 23
Brommapojkarna -22 23
The reason why Helsingborg ended in the mid-table was some major defensive problems.
Central defenders were sold and the new players didn't get their act together until recently.
But at least there haven't been any problems with scoring goals this season.

Is this his last season of football? We'll know soon how he is planning his life 2008.
The 36 year old legend is thinking of retiring. :(

My pal who is a GS fan called me for the result (he had an exam and could not watch it). Let us just say that he is absolutely demoralized and will probably fail his exam.
To win in Turkey is not easy... you can ask Inter & Liverpool, among others...

Bordeaux vs Helsingborg
This game is about who will be the group winner and meet a little less difficult team in February.
1-1 at half time. It's a tough game for us and Tamboura is inches away from getting a red card.
Bordeaux needs the win to be sure of being number 1 of the group. They're going to go for it 100%.
No matter the result Helsingborg looks like at least number 2 in the group
but then we need to play a 3rd place CL team, like Benfica or Rangers/Lyon...
Update
We're down to 10 men and Bordeaux scored 2-1.
20 minutes left but the game is almost over.
Our UEFA Cup Group Fixtures
25 October: Helsingborg vs Panionios --> a must win ---> Sadly, the result was 1-1, Larsson scored a late equaliser
8 November: Galatasaray vs Helsingborg --> very difficult ---> But we made it. We won! 3-2 :D
29 November: Helsingborg vs Austria Wien --> surprise points to be taken --> Yes. We won 3-0!
6 December: Bordeaux vs Helsingborg --> difficult--> We lost 2-1. We had lots of chances to score more goals - but we didn't.
Group H after today's two games
Bordeaux 3 played - 9 points
Helsingborg 4 played - 7 points
Panionios 3 played - 4 points
Galatasaray 3 played - 3 points
Austria Wien 3 played - 0 points
Bordeaux and Helsingborg have made it out of the group.
Only the third place in the group is up for grabs in two weeks time.

Full time 2-1. Helsingborg can consider themselves very unlucky tonight. They were much the better side prior to Tamboura's dismissal (which was merited), although Makondele's and Omotoyossi's distribution/finishing was pretty wasteful.
Even after the red card Svanbäck had an excellent chance and I believe a Bordeaux player should have been red-carded for elbowing/punching Skúlason at a corner. Also thought the keeper (Andersson?) made some excellent reaction saves.
As expected, Larsson was impecable in his general linkplay and movement - it's a shame you only have one of him!
Never mind, hopefully the team you get from the CL is Rangers, as having watched them this season I reckon your team (and Larsson :p) can beat them over two legs. Here's hoping! :)

So which team will Helsingborg have to play in February? The draw is coming up soon.
It will be one of the third-placed teams in the Champions League groups.
Olympique Marseille
Rosenborg
Werder Bremen
Benfica
Rangers
Sporting Lissabon
PSV Eindhoven
Slavia Prague
I hope the draw will give us either Slavia Prague or Rosenborg - and not any portuguese team or Werder Bremen.
It would be nice to go to the round of 16.
---
Look here at the top scorers of the UEFA Cup so far: --> http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uefacup/index.html
6 goals
Henrik Larsson, Helsingborg
Razak Omotoyossi, Helsingborg
5 goals
Dimitrios Papadopoulos, Panathinaikos
Agüero, Atlético Madrid
And we don't know yet if both or any of them will play that game in February.
Update
We got PSV Eindhoven, not the worst alternative but it will of course be very difficult to punish them.
No news yet of Henrik Larsson's future or who will be the new coach of the club.
But the management wants Larsson to be part of the coaching team this year.
They want to hire people that have strong local support for the job of leading the club.

Great news for Helsingborgs and football in general IMO.

I'll be watching and supporting them if I can. ;)

Thanks Hibby!
If some of you people really like Larsson after his time in Celtic, Man United or Barca
and want some smallish team to support except your own, just for fun,
you could always get behind our red-blue flag and cheer for Helsingborg.
Henrik Larsson wants to get Helsingborgs IF another title before he ends his career.
The UEFA Cup would be great (and beyond belief) but if that turns out to be too hard,
winning Allsvenskan - the swedish top league 2008 - will be fine.
Henrik wants to end his career as a winner also in his home town.
He is rumoured to having had a serious chat with the chairman of the board
to ensure that there will be full support from the bosses this season
and no stupid and greedy selling of key players of the defense like last season.
Larsson is also planning to take the courses needed to get a Manager License in the future.

Henrik Larsson and Razak Omotoyossi will still haunt the defenses of the other clubs.
Helsingborg scored the highest amount of goals last season: 49 goals/26 games.
Razak was top scorer and Henrik was the leading assist-maker. I hope this trend continues.

It looks like the photographer told them I want your funny face, not your fighting face.

Our big problem 2007 was losing too many games because of defensive errors due to selling/getting rid of main defenders.
Our previous coach failed to approach this problem. We can't afford to have the same problems now. I'm curious to see what has been done about it.

Helsingborg vs Manchester City 2-0
The under-21 teams of HIF and Man City played yesterday in Sweden.
Our youth manager is very satisfied with the result. City is a much bigger club.
Helsingborg have a couple of really bright young talents who have made some good work
for the club in the league this autumn. The future of swedish football is already here.

The team of Helsingborg 2009
The old experienced players and the young talents.
Henrik is 37 and Rasmus is 19. The are both strikers in Helsingborg.
http://www.hif.se/images/common/topbanner/20090205/www.hif.se_H_R_1.jpg
The team will be back from their winter training in South Africa tomorrow.
Because of the economical crisis and lack of sponsorship there are few new faces in the squad
- but from that 2008 first team picture only Omotoyossi and Granqvist are gone.
We need to be lucky with avoiding injuries to do well this season. Top 5 is ok.
