View Full Version : D'Alessandro or Aimar?
Ok, now that Riquelme has left a gaping hole in the Argentinian midfield, who would you like to see take up the reigns as the new maestro in the middle of the park? If it's someone else, please state who.
Now that the turtle is gone probably D'Alessandro.

both! they play for the same team for crying out loud!
it is quite rare to see two of argentina's best midfield players playing together each week and if they're successful at zaragoza I'd put them both on to keep the magic going at the national team level

I saw alot of D'alesandro last year, and really fell in love with him. I love his tenicity, his moves, his speed, pretty much everything he brings to the game.

What about Aguero? we all thought he should have been in the World Cup, so maybe now is his chance.
In this situation however I would say that Aimar is a much better option than D'Allesandro.

aguero is a finisher, not a midfielder and definitely not in the mold of a riquelme type player.

Can the answer be neither? Not that Roman was always the best man to have on the field in every match, and I loved Aimar's play at River....but. It's just such a crucial position for any team, look at Zidane/Pirlo, and while Roman had his down moments, neither really measures up. Seems like a problem for the squad.

aimar is a genius who performs miracles on the pitch
he's never been given enough of a chance at the national team level
I hope now is the time
and d'alessandro over bilos or insúa any day..though the latter could easily come off the bench

You know, I question whether Argentina even needs to replace Riquelme.
Players like Aguero, Tevez, and Messi are so technically sound, the position of "playmaker" becomes a lot less important. These players are not relying on that killer pass to score goals - they can create for themselves. In the future, I'd like to see Basile experiment using a 4-2-3-1, with the aforemention three (or whatever other players can be thrown into the equation) playing behind a #9, while Mascherano and Gago sit in front of the defense. Gago is so well-rounded that, he, especially with Mascherano by his side, can operate an efficient attack should the need arise.
Otherwise, I would rather see D'Alessandro there. I don't want to see Aimar thrown out of the equation, but as a #10, I feel D'Alessandro is stronger.

agreed...as per usual. ;) :D

I dont agree with you there. I can see why you've said that, but we need to have someone who can make something happen when those rather short players(and yes...all of them are rather short), cant get by larger, mobile defences. Thats when a player like Roman comes into play. Him, linked up with crespo on a nice pass.

I reservedly agree about Aimar, but I think he's often too easy to push off the ball.
Agreed about Bilos. I kinda like Insua, but D'Alessandro back in form would be the preference. Mind you, I still can't believe Saviola isn't getting tons of playing time in some decent club.
Oh and I just saw mosesmalone brought up Gago. it really is time to try to work him in there and see what he's got at that level.

A nice Aimar goal with our NT vs. Bolivia:

I still remember that day.. Back when Roman wasn't in the picture, and Aimar and el Cabezon were amazing.. In that game, D'Alessandro scored a beautiful free kick, meanwhile Aimar made the above goal.
If you look at the video, D'Alessandro picks Aimar up in the celebration. That means that they were playing on the pitch together.. May we see that again this year?
