ahh man poor guy and if hes going to leave this season its going to hurt his value

MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid defender Cicinho is likely to miss most of the season after a serious injury to his right knee during Saturday's Spanish league match against Real Betis, his club has confirmed.

Examinations confirmed that the Brazilian international, who was part of their World Cup squad in June, suffered a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament, an injury that normally means around six months on the sidelines.

He will have surgery on Monday.

Cicinho was unmarked when he turned awkwardly on the wet turf at Betis's Manuel Ruiz de Lopera stadium and immediately fell to the floor in pain before being stretchered off after 29 minutes

When a player suffers a very serious injury, it shouldn't be good news for anyone regardless of the team he supports.

this is really sad to hear. I feel badly for him that he will have to miss playing the game. He was one of my favorite RMA players. :(

As soon as he started to bang the ground I knew that he tore his ACL... you know right away that its serious!!!! I hope he recovers ASAP, it took me almost 8 months to go back to comparable level to what I used to be and roughly 12 months to be back as the old me... he will have better treatment and hopefully he'll be back b4 the end of the season.

In all seriousness, I think this injury was a blessing in disguise for Madrid. Capello wants Salgado for this season but it looks like he is willing to part with him soon after and thats where Cicinho was supposed to step in. Ofcourse Cicinho didn't want to sit on the bench this season & thats were the selling rumors come from.

I think he is definitely going to stay.

Bingo, your post explained the whole thing completely, and I think this will help the Capello crap that he has been pulling. hopefully this should cement his stay in the club for next season and see him start the the RB position.

After calderon's meeting with Seph Blatter he said this

It's a shame. They will perform surgery tomorrow, and his recovery will take between six and eight months. He is young and strong, and these injuries tend to happen in the football world. We will be by his side every step of the way.

You'd better be by his side. I would be p*ssed if he Cicinho was sold

he'll have his operation today, 4PM CET :( Real Madrid's medical staff will perform the operation themselves

This was his chance to shine with Salgado out with injury. Damn it, I thought Cicinho was gonna have a great year too. He was playing well for Brazil too.

First of all I would never wish injury on anybody and I feel terrible about Cicinho, it's horrible. But the one thing good that comes out of this is that Daniel Alves will finally get his chance for Brasil. He was called up for Brasil's next game and IMO he is a better overall fullback than Cicinho and hopefully he can show Dunga. With all of that said, it's unfortunate that Daniels chance had to come like this.

From the Real Madrid site, he's married and about to have his first kid. That is why he decided to begin the recovery back in Brazil.

On the other hand, did anyone see the RM vs Athletico game? At the beginning there were wearing shirts that said "Animo Cicinho". I looked it up and it said (translated): I animate Cicinho. Anyone know the story behind that?

But I agree, it is a blow for Real Fans. Mejia is hardly helping, if any at all, on the right-back position.

I wonder if this will mean the rumours about him moving to Roma will fall through.

Well you guys just lost Eto'o so it shud be 'good news' to Madrid fans innit?

But this is terrible for Cicinho esp as he was starting to fight for his place. Capello shud let him be the attack-minded fullback that he is and stop trying to play his rigid back four ish.

Mejia is garbage... you are right... he looked like a headless chicken on a few plays.

I hope Salgado can recover ASAP

Not sure if you lads knew this or not:
80% of the people that tear their ACL do it with no contact.

Until today no one really understands why the ACL tears when it does!!
