Referee makes Inter spy claims

Internazionale are set to be investigated after allegations of spying on referee Massimo De Santis in 2002.

The Italian Federation (FIGC) are set to open an inquiry into the claims made by the official, who is currently serving a four-year ban for his involvement in the match-fixing scandal which broke this summer.

Outside the footballing world the manager of Italy's Telecom company Marco Tronchetti Provera quit in the wake of a phone tapping scandal, but remains a member of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza's management.

De Santis has accused the club and in particular supremo Massimo Moratti of hiring a private investigator to tap his phone, along with his wife's and former Nerazzurri frontman Christian Vieri, while Moratti wholeheartedly rejects the charges.

"It's absolutely groundless. Inter aren't involved," Moratti insisted.

"I think they are really serious because you can't ignore the damage he is causing by making these statements."

Inter would be in line for a fine though if found to be in breach of the first article of the sport's code of justice.

Looks like Inter isn't innocent after all.
read the news properly my friend (and post ALL OF THE NEWS, not the part u like....)

if true (i hope it is), this has nothing to do with the match-fixing scandal or trying to select refs...
as said in the article, inter will not be fined sports-wise but for illegal tapping...

but, i dont think it is true as it seems to me that in every interview with the victims of the scandal, they want to mention Inter and try to bring them down....
why didnt DeSanctis say anything before this?? this allegedly happened in 2002; this is 2006...

again, people trying to bring down Inter and disrupt the team that is destined for victory....
people will try anything at this point....

:D

I put the source too that you can check that it is all of the news. I forgot the head line, but I added it to make you feel better. If you understood that I was referring to the match-fixing scandal, then I'm sorry. I was saying that they aren't as clean as they always say.

I'll 3rd that aswell.

I 4th it. Anyone who thinks Inter is squeaky clean is a fool, they got off easy on the Valencia match scandal.

People dont need to bring down inter they bring themselves down Mancini and company Im sure if they dont win it this season they will have an excuse, "WELL NEXT SEASON IS OUR SEASON"

Inter deny spying on former Serie A referee

ROME, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The president of Italian champions Inter Milan has denied allegations that his club paid a firm of private investigators to spy on one of the referees involved in the Serie A match-fixing scandal.

'I can confirm that there have never been instructions to follow anyone,' Massimo Moratti was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport's website on Wednesday.

The claims against Inter were made earlier this week by former referee Massimo De Santis, who said that in 2002 the club employed a firm to follow him, take photographs of him and tap his phone line.

In July, De Santis was banned for four years after being found guilty of conspiring to rig Serie A matches in the 2004-05 season.

'If we had got to the bottom of this back then, maybe two years ago we would have sorted out our problems, instead of having to wait two more years,' continued Moratti.

In Italy it is illegal to tap phone lines without the permission of a magistrate.

The Italian Football Federation has not revealed whether it plans to open an investigation into De Santis's claims.

If they turn out to be true, Inter could be charged with violating the laws that govern 'fair conduct' - an offence that carries sanctions ranging from a fine to a points penalty.

The latest scandal to hit Italian football following the relegation of Juventus to the second division and points penalties against AC Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina drew a withering response from FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

'You can't tail a referee. You must not do it. It is against the spirit of sport,' he told Italian newspaper La Stampa.

'If Moratti had had reasonable doubts (about De Santis) he should have spoken to the Italian Federation'.

Of course Inter denies everything. I guess we have to wait and see what happens.

Can this be taken as a excuse, when Inter doesn't win the title?
