Ronaldo shares a joke with Real Madrid team-mate Mahamadou Diarra

Striker Ronaldo received a surprise last-minute call-up to Real Madrid's squad for Tuesday's Group E Champions League tie against Dynamo Kiev.

He had knee surgery after Brazil's World Cup quarter-final exit in July and was not expected to return until Sunday's game with Atletico Madrid.

Coach Fabio Capello turned to Ronaldo because Ruud van Nistelrooy was attending the birth of his daughter. :)

/////// Hope he will get into his best form sooner..

He looks good I saw him in a training session and its obvious that Capello made him lose weight. I hope he has renewed his love for the game and is ready to begin his goal-spree we desperately needed him.

he had a good chance last night, after a couple of games he should be able to put away chances like that.

I only saw a couple highlights of him doing a nice little backheel and another shot which was deflected away. Probably gotta pick up the entire match to see what he did.

He came on in the 72nd.

He didn't do anything spectaculer... his lack of form was very obvious.

He had a shot on net from outside of the 18 and I could've sworn he was booed for it... can anyone confirm?

I can't wait for him to hit top gear again :D

Yeah, it's going to take at least a couple of matches for him to get back in form and I would hope the fans realize this and show patience.

And yes, I heard the boos. Real fans at the Bernabeu are, maybe, the stupidest I have ever seen anywhere in the world. When he came on the pitch for Ruud there was a thunderous ovation for him but then seconds later after missing his first shot at the Bernabeu in 5 months a section of fans booed, and it continued whenever he missed a pass or messed up in some way

people should really be more understanding. But hey, they pay to cheer, and to boo.

its tough for really good athletes, because their highs are so hi, and God help them if they get hurt, and dont look quite as good as they once did...they just dont have the time to get back into form before the critisismn starts. :(

Ronaldo should have gone back to Cruezio (sp?). Remember when the fans displayed that gigantic banner?

"Ronaldo, a nation is waiting for your return"

To lose weight, Ronaldo runs on his off time

http://www.marca.es/primeras/06/10/g1004.jpg

Still overweight, Ronaldo is doing whatever it takes to lose some pounds. Besides his workouts at Real Madrid's practice, Ronaldo has been running at night around the streets surrounding his home. According to AS, the forward has been doing this lately with a trainer, Jose Luis San Martin or with some friends.

Dressed in a red sweatshirt, Ronaldo ran in the vicinity of the La Moraleja condominiom's. A Spanish television show captured footage of the brazilian in action. Showing a great amount of motivation, the striker seems to have taken seriously his bet that he will score 30 goals this season.

In two months of recuperation from his injury, Ronaldo has supposedly already lost 5 kgs (11 lbs). He wants to lose another 2 or 3kgs (4.4lbs or 6.6lbs) to reach his ideal weight. The estimation is that he will reach the match against Getafe at about 80%. The strikers goal is to reach the Classico against Barcelona at full strength.
