With the recent, and very unfortunate, injury to Etoo, which one of the two should become the starter for Barca?
IMO Saviola should start the games. Everytime i have seen Guddy he seems to be lost at times, granted that he does snap out of it and score, but Saviola has come off the bench and changed the game for us more than once.
Saviola also has pace, and he is more fitted for the one-touch passing game Barca play.
Guddy though offers a "tall-ish" target up forward, and while he isn't as fast as Saviola, i find him a bit more solid when he isn't lost. He can hold up the ball, he has good vision, and he runs the field more than Savi, i often see him getting back to help in the midfield.
Which one would you chose? I would chose Saviola to start and Guddy to come on and help if needed. Anyway, with the month Barca has coming up, i hope at least one of them hits his stride.

Saviola, of course :)
But really I think both...depends on what other team they're playing, they have different strengths and I don't see either of them for 90 mins. Guily needs to be in there too. And Messi can play a more attacking position as well. Obviously.

tough choice. neither have had too too much opportunity to shine yet. i picked saviola only because he was close to brilliant in the 10 minutes he had against valencia ... he almost won that match for us. gudjohnsen will take some time to adjust to the spanish game ... he'll figure it out soon, surely.
Guddy is a wonder striker, who can as said already hold the ball up well and pass very well. I feel he just needs top play with the team more and learn the flow of the one touch passing. he tends to run away from the ball alot instead of coming to it to play quick one two's..
Savi. is just a proven versatile striker. He plays better with ronnie and messi and deco much better because of is argintine style of play, but hes small and I think rikgaard wants that tall striker up front to start games off, who can defend when neccessary...

Savi for crucial matches. Guddy for lower half table opponents.

kinda agree with you. somehow i'm excited that eto'o got injured. at least saviola will have more of his chance.

I'd pick Saviola. Honestly, it's b/c i've seen Saviola play more than i have Gudjohnsen, but I do think Savi fits better w/ the other Barca players in terms of their style of play. He's got speed and good vision, and he almost always finishes. He's got alot of tenacity and a strong will to play and prove himself, i think that is the main reason i'd pick him. I'm not saying Gudjohnson, doesnt have that, but i've only seen him in a few matches and it'll prob take him some time to really fit in, so i would'nt risk starting him just yet. It's going to interesting, i really hope savi can finally get his chance to make his mark at barca, i think he's ready for it.

I think Saviola would be a better direct replacement for Eto'o, but I would like to see Guddy get in on the action too.

I think it depends on what type of defence that Barca is playing. If you're playing a tough defence, a physical one, then Guddy should play.
I voted Saviola, because I think he's more talented. I think Guddy should get 50% of the starts. He's a good player, that is talented enough to play the spanish style well, and finish the balls he gets.

Gudjohnsen for sure!
Man moved from Chelsea and knows how to play in team in witch he isn't first,second... star.

I'd love to see Gudjohnsen get 90 minutes. I want to see if he's up to the task. He's played well for Barca so far but if he continues to do well he can't usurp Eto'o position so where would he fit in?

He can always play midfield he was pretty good there until essien came along

I voted Savi but if he doesn't perform he's out at 55th minute and Guddy comes in.

Yeah he's definately a quality midfielder but Barca has a lot of players there. I kinda like seeing Gudjohnson as a forward though.
More importantly who is going to start in replace of Eto'o for the game against Chelsea next week?
I had Eto'o in my pool, but need to replace him. My guess is it will be Guddy against Chelsea & hopefully not Giuly.

I like Guddy, but I think Saviola is better suited to the Spanish game right now. Guddy will adjust and then it will be tough for Rijkaard to pick!!

Well I saw both of them play during the preseason (I haven't been able to see Barca in the league yet.), and they both looked very solid. Their isn't much to choose between their finishing, either. But I prefer Conejo because he has pace, he can dribble, and now he's 25 or 26, which means he will be in his prime and will score a lot of goals. Guddy is older and lacks pace, but he can pass very well and will be even better when he adjusts to the spanish game.

So what did we think tonight people? Obviously we didn't see the game, but from what i have read/heard Guddy wasn't bad, but he sure as hell wasn't cutting edge. If we go up against Chelse with him they could tame him pretty easily im afraid, which is why i am hoping Savi gets the first dig at Chelsea.
Alternatively, we could start Guddy, use him to tire the Chelsea defence along with Messi/Ronnie and then put on Savi and Giuly to outrun a tiring defence.
Should be an interesting decision by Rijkaard.
