With their new shirt sponsor, it seems they will be rolling in dough

And the new partnership with Zenith..

As far as I can understand, they will receive a huge amount of money from Gazprom and get first rights to players from Zenith. They will receive more (or the equal) than FC Bayern, so maybe they will sign some star players, when the transferwindow opens in a few months?

They have debts of ~200 million €,
during the last seasons the management had to put private money into the club transfers. They wont swim in money ;)

they will get 70 Millions for 5 and a half years.
If they win titles and play CL, they get up to 100 Millions.
Thats less than FC Bayern gets from their sponsors.

I doubt Schalke will win a title, no matter how much money they have...the club is pure chaos IMO and the money won`t make it better. Simply buying expensive playeers doesn`t make a winning team and most importantly doesn`t make a winner mentality, which Schalke definetely doesn`t have.

What i find very interesting is that Gasprom made the same offer to BVB Dortmund a year ago and they turned it down. The club also had financial problems but they didn`t want to have anything to do with the russian Gasprom company.

They need to play Asamoah week in and week out. That will make the difference. ;)

EXACTLY!
This money just barely keeps them afloat.
And next year they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their last (and only) championship!
:p

I've heard a few reasons why they didn't take this $. Basically 1 is what you state, & two, they want to remain true to their Ruhr roots. That's why they signed the deal with RAG, they figured it would insult their fans & their roots, which is probably another reason why Schalke took the offer.

Just bought two of the last tickets for tuesday`s match in the DFB Pokal Köln vs. Schalke.
Won´t be cheering for Schalke, though ;)
Looking forward to it, hopefully Köln won´t be as bad as in yesterday`s terrible match in Unterhaching :/
