Atlético are close to completing a deal in which the City Council of Madrid will pay the club between €320 and €350m for the land Atleti's current stadium, the Vicente Calderón, currently resides on. But even better, the club will be given La Peineta (http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=40.436577,-3.59858&spn=0.006378,0.010064&t=k&om=1), a large stadium well east of Vicente Calderón, but not far from the Parque de Valdebebas, home to none other than Real Madrid's new training facilities.
Atleti will presumably use the money to restructure their finances, remodel La Peineta, but perhaps most importantly, engage in the transfer market. With the club's splurge in the transfer market this summer, and a quality youth program already in place, Atlético could once again emerge as Spain's third team.
