after the disappointing draw with chelsea in last gasp fashion after playing a decent match (if you could call it that). there was certainly some bad news for the squad.. it was revealed that not only was eidur gudjohnsen injured in the match, but xavi managed a hair-line fracture of his tibia. this adds to the high profile injury of samuel eto'o... leaving rijkaard with just one striker in javier saviola.
this will put both xavi and guddy out of this weekend's clash with a tough deportivo side. to add more woe onto the current european and spanish champions, the tragic death of carles puyol's father has forced him to pull out of the squad traveling to la coruna on saturday. puyol's father was only 56 years of age and passed away in a work related accident.
rip josep puyol, our thoughts are with you and your family carles :(
lets hope the boys can do the memory of your father proud.
Wow... sad news... not the way I wanted Barca to crumble.
I hope the Puyol family can overcome the tragic death... its sad to hear someone's life cut short like that

Puyol's father worked in construction, and apparently, from what little information has been released, the backhoe that he opperated somehow tipped over and crushed him. Really terrible. :(
All the best to the Puyol family.

No...No...No.
All the best to Puyol and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. :(
And as far as the injuries go... hope it stops here and doesnot get any worse. Hopefully the boys will rise above this all and give us all a very special year.

That sucks, that really sucks, I've always held him in high regard, one of the best (and most underrated) defenders in the world. :(

Short term, this kind of event rallies teams. Barca will rise to the occassion, in memory of Puyol's father.
That's not to say that we won't have some major challenges going forward.
Hero time for Saviola.

I'm a little surprised as to why Saviola is held in such low regard. He is much better a player than being left to rot in Barca's reserve squad. I really hope he steps in and does well, earning himself a move to a club that wants him.
That won't help much, the game's on Saturday!!
Ha ha! :p

Tragic news.May he rest in peace:(

The fact that he refused to live on his son's money and was still working in construction, shows he was a great man.Damnnn:(

If Carles alone was his only success(which i'm sure it wasnt), i think we can all agree his life would have been considered blessed.
Rest in Peace Mr. Puyol, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends you leave behind. :(
