Possible Spoilers
It looks like Werder only need to score a few goals tonight in their mediterranean island away game
and then in their last home game beat or draw Inter to qualify. Should be easy cake....
mmmh cake :o
anyways, that draw will cost werder dearly, i cant picture them beat inter.
If Inter wants to top the group they need a win themselves.
Without even UEFA Cup money they finally have to sell Diego :(
and struggle to strengthen the squad and shit.
And what should trouble every werder fan the most,
their invidious rivals will come soon to fuck them up royally.
Eintracht motherfucking Frankfurt, better watch out !!!!

Is it true that Pizarro may be banned by Fifa for a few years? Mr.Honeyglass wrote about this in his article in the Guardian with regard to Pizza's agent's divorce in Peru and the ex who was refused the alimony she wanted going public with some sneaky deals aka bribes handed out by the agent. If this true it could be the worst thing since the ref scandal a few years ago.

Diego: I Will Leave Bremen At The End Of The Season
Werder Bremen midfielder Diego has revealed his intention to leave his current club this summer because he hopes to find continental glory, according to the Corierre dello Sport.
"There is a strong possibility I will go,” explained the Brazilian international. “I've been here for three years and still have two more left on my contract. However, I've received several offers and I think it's right to take them seriously.
"For the moment, I [will] only think about Werder Bremen but in May I will meet with my agent and make the appropriate decisions."
Diego revealed that Champions League football will be important in his decision and Werder are currently tenth place in the Bundesliga.
"Playing in European competitions is important,” explained the 24-year-old. “My dream is to win the Champions League and I know with Werder that will be hard to achieve. Very important clubs have contacted me and cannot pretend nothing has happened.”
Diego has been in excellent form this season and has been linked with European giants such as Juventus, Inter and Real Madrid over the past couple of months.

I told you, mambo, that it would happen eventually. :p
Well for 2 years or even longer people here have that topic. Its the things they read and hear in the sports news. Some of these news are always the same pattern and some are very creative.
But honestly, ive seen hundrets! :p Good names sell papers/gain clicks so i guess its something natural.
When i personally hear Diego in TV-Interviews (or read in reliable sources) he always acts extremley professional and 100% loyal towards his employer. I stopped worrying about anything related to the transfer topic a long time ago. I guess i safed alot of time ;D I focus on enjoying his football, because it is the only thing of importance.
Of course there are alot of interested clubs, Diego is brilliant! But he has 2 and a half years left on his contract and i doubt that he will push it. It will be harder without international competition but thats not decided yet. You know the deal, its the same everwhere: if someone is willing to put enough money on the table then things will go their way. Its told that Juventus introduced theirselves with 20 million € but as you can imagine, that is a little short ;)

Udinese vs Werder Bremen yesterday 3-3
I saw the second half of what turned out to be a thriller and a great game.
Werder had 3-1 before the match started and I thought it was almost over.
Then suddenly when I checked the results Udinese was leading 3-1 (aggregate 4-4)
But it all ended well for the germans because of Pizarro and Diego.
Congrats, Werder made it to the UEFA Cup Semifinal - although Diego missed that penalty.
Hey, drag Rosenberg out of the locker room, he needs to play.

I certainly hope you're right, he can play another 2 years at a high level in Bremen.
I also thought we were somewhat linked with that Colo Colo striker Lucas Barrios as a replacement for Pizzaro. After the whole CAS conspiracy about Pizarro came up, I thought it sort of cooled any interests Klaus Allofs had in signing him

I dont think the transfer fee would be the problem. Its Claudios salary.
I believe our top salarys in Bremen are at about 4.x million € pre-tax and i assume Pizarro earns alot more than this in his current contract (maybe our Chelsea boys can shed some light on a exact number ?) and its running til 2011.
Would you think hes going to pass on a couple of millions in order to play for Werder ?
I dont :(
Pizarro's salary has been quoted at £55,000 a week... Bremen refused to pay this and asked that Chelsea pay £20,000 of his weekly wages, which we accepted. Money well spent.

I know it's just the first round of the Pokal and we were up by 3, but I sure hope that I don't look up at any time this season to again see a centre back pair of Prödl and Pasanen.
I like Petri for what he is, but don't trust Prödl at all. I hope we don't see the back line so depleted at any time this season that we get that pair again.
Well ... Naldo is out for a yet undertermined amount of time. He might need to undergo surgery which would rule him out for a couple of month but that's not clear yet.
Your defense is - like ours :) - definitely the weakest spot. I sure hope that it's gonna be enough to best Sampdoria though... Do it for Germany :D

So guys, looking for some info on Ozil. I've heard he can play all positions in mildfield, is that right ? What was his main position in Werder ?
In a diamond - the front player. In a 4-2-3-1 the man in the middle of the three. He definitely has his strengths in the middle, playmaker position; so he's in direct opposition to vdV or Kaka once he's fit again. He's quick enough to be a winger possibly as well, but I don't think I've seen him there much ;)

I think he's also ideal in a 4-2-2-2, as one of the two AM's, playing from wide-in, in-wide. I think he's kind of a winger too.
I don't think he'd be idea for Madrid in the hole position, not with the players they have.

Played poorly the first half, but never gave up.
Just kept attacking and then when Sampdoria scored their third late in the second half still kept fighting. Proud of Rosenberg too for battling for a team that's been trying to get rid of him and scoring that great goal.
Really proud of the whole team.
The elbow to Wagner's Head that had him could have been a penalty too.
Hopefully when Naldo comes back it will settle the back line a little and the newcomer Wesley turns out to be a good buy. It'll also be interesting to see if SVW does any shopping with their Özil/Champion's League Group Stage money.
Hope for a good Draw tomorrow.
Another note: Drawing Bayern in the the Pokal is crazy! A rematch of last year's final in the second round. That'll be a really tough match.
Oh, and sportsmen I think the spoiler tag is a good idea too. Thanks!

I can't believe we lost yesterday's cup match to Bayern. I think SVW outplayed the Bavarians in all aspects. Very disappointing.
First the cup-match vs Bayern and then vs Nuernberg at the weekend...not a good week :( ...makes me really nervous for the CL match.
I know that the defense is a real weak spot, but that they lost the lead and the strikers can't seem to use their goal-chances was so frustrating...
So the defense is scrambling and the offense hasn't enough bite and 2 points to build on...I'm getting all kinds of optimistic :p ...I'll just hope for some Werda-craziness and a win ;)
And YES Rosi scored 2 goals yesterday for Racing :D

You said it brother.
Yep and the CL match didn't exactly make it better
Yeah the whole defense was make-shift and Miele didn't have a chance after the ball got a deflection and for the 2. goal he was just a step too late and yes it didn't get easier with 10 man ...
...but atm they're just not up there with the other teams.
Problems with a good finish, in some game phases just too many missed passes...I don't have a problem with playing full-out hirakiri offense, but then they should at least score :p
Atm the goal difference in CL is -6 , so if Twente wins 1 of their next matches Werder is even out of EL, even if they make a wondrous comeback and win both games vs Inter and Tottenham *sigh*

Well, now that we're out of the cup and have no European matches to worry about, there's no question which competition to concentrate on.
Relegation? :p
I must admit, I'm kinda worried. As long as Naldo, Merte and a couple of others are more at the physio than on the field, you're gonna have trouble. Your def mid didn't improve by letting go Frings, Jensen and Niemeyer while only getting Trybull from Rostock. Other areas also need fixing - another striker apart from often injured Pizarro who can provide 10+ goals per season? And let's not talk about the depth of your bench :-/ It's gonna be a tough year to try and make it to the international starting spots - which apparently is your helm's aim and would be necessary in order to keep Wiese and Merte.
In some kind of a joke I put you guys down as one of my "most likely to end bottom three" picks ... now I'm not so sure anymore if I should change it.

Ugh. Please don't even joke about that.:p
Your def mid didn't improve by letting go Frings....
I understand that Frings is getting older, but I don't think you let a player like that go if you don't have a replacement that improves you at that position.
I'm afraid we're going to give up a huge number of goals again this year.
I guess letting Frings go was at least halfways a monetary decision, not playing internationally and all. I also got the feeling that Klaus and Thomas might have felt that Frings blocked other people from growing into responsibilities. Like Merte or Bargfrede. But yeah, getting some kind of a replacement would have been nice. Hitzlsperger is still without contract ;-)
You did look quite a bit improved against Everton today though. I didn't follow it close enough to see with how many first teamers they played or how far they are in their league preparation, but winning 1:0 against last year's EPL's 7th place finisher ... not too bad. If your guys stay healthy and perform way better than last year, you might surprise us all ;-)
