View Full Version : Henry: I'll be a Gunner for life
Some nice quotes by the frenchman about his future at Arsenal, the reasons for his final decision to end up his career in London and why "both his heart and future now is firmly embedded at Emirates Stadium".

Arsenal skipper Thierry Henry insists he has no regrets about snubbing Barcelona in the summer and furthermore is adamant he will see out his playing days at Emirates Stadium.
The French superstar rejected the advances of the Catalan outfit following Arsenal's UEFA Champions League final defeat at the hands of Frank Rijkaard's side in May, ending months of fierce speculation about his future with The Gunners by committing himself to Arsene Wenger's ongoing project.
Henry's decision to ignore the lure of Camp Nou has recently been criticised by none other than French legend Michel Platini, but the Gunners captain says he is happy with the choice he made.
Indeed, Henry insists he will make the same decision again if he is the subject of a similar approach from the Spanish champions, with both his heart and future now firmly embedded at Emirates Stadium.
"Do I regret having extending my deal at Arsenal? No, I am keen to stay all life long at Arsenal," said Henry in L'Equipe.
"I am fine here, I could never play in any other English team.
"If an opportunity like Barcelona comes again, with all my respect for such a club, I will refuse.

its always great to see a player who really cares about the club he plays for and im not just saying that as a supporter. i think its great when anyone is really committed to their club like this.
then again, if he ever leaves he will never hear the end of it. especially after this little thing.

I'm sure he will see out his first career as a gooner ...and bet he'll then follow Becks to the MLS...now that the MLS has okayed its Superstar rule.

Class is good. And he seems to have it.
But Barcelona...Seriously, what the fuck?! Eto'o isn't good enough for you? You need to add Henry too? Gimme a break!

Henry - Why I know I must adapt to our new formation
By Richard Clarke
When he first came to Arsenal in August 1999, Thierry Henry had to adapt to a new role.
Having played for France and Juventus on the left wing, Arsène Wenger asked his protégé to reprise the attacking role he had first handed him at Monaco as a teenager. After a little adjustment, Henry took off. He needed only 303 appearances as an out-and-out striker to score for the 186th time and become the Club’s highest goal-scorer.
Now Henry is having to adjust again.
Last season Wenger switched from his familiar 4-4-2 formation and started to play one striker up front. Now it is the norm. Even the captain, top scorer and team icon has had to adapt.
“It's different now,” he said. “When we used to play 4-4-2 I had another role. Now I have to learn to wait and keep the ball.
“If you look at our first goal on Sunday it was not in an Arsenal way. It was a long ball, I went to win the header, Cesc won another header, we put it down on the wing - goal. Usually you don't see that from Arsenal. It's another role but that's what I have to do to make the team win.
“It is difficult. You are surrounded by two defenders in front of you and two at the back. Usually, you can trick them because there is another one running behind.
“Still when you play with Dennis Bergkamp or Kanu they shield the ball for you. It's the same when you play with someone like Peter Crouch, you can wait for the ball to come. But as a skipper [adapting] shows you have character.”
Henry accepts the new formation is now established and, despite the odd hiccup, has proved successful.
“That's what I said to myself,” he said. “So I need to do something for the team. When you play like that you need to make sure you don't lose possession, make sure you join the game and shield the ball. It is not really my type of game but [on Sunday] I showed I can adapt to any kind of situation.”

Well, there's a lot of time between the prime of your career and retirement. Player sentiment and passion for their club is noble, but in the end the best clubs sell their best players just after their prime, while they still have some value left.

Well Viera made the same pledge to Arsenal too.
These types of pledges are par for the course in professional football. I remember Alan Smith saying he would never leave Leeds, yeah right.
I really don't but a lot of stock in these kissing of the badges and pledges to clubs anymore. Just don't seem meaningful anymore.
