Following now is the original starting info from this thread, before it became a general 1. FC Köln Thread:

Christoph Daum yesterday gave a final decision not to become the new coach of 1. FC Köln. They made great offers and fulfilled all his wishes, but apparently his doctors said he would be in danger working in the next weeks :

yea why cant he become the new coach. what medical problems does he have? interested to find out why. but about coaching a BL2 team most likely Koeln will be back in BL1 next year.

He started his coach career at Cologne, then later went to Stuttgart and Leverkusen. Placed runner up with his teams in Bundelsiga several times and won the title once.
He was supposed to become our National Team Coach but stumbled over a cocaine affair in 2000.
since then he won some titles with fenerbace Istanbul and Autria Wien as he had difficulties finding a job in Germany since then.

IMO he has really paid for his drug affair, losing his job at Leverkusen and he surely won`t ever become NT coach.
A great coach, he has been successfull wherever he worked.

Now Cologne seems really in a bad position. No coach after they fired Latour and currently place 9 in second division. So I might not be able to see first division football next season here, which is totally disappointing regarding the clubs solid financial background (more money than some first division teams) and their huge fan support in the area, this season so far we have 40.000 people coming in average for home matches.
I am not a real fan of the team but since I live here I of course support them and I like the stadium very much.

Wow, I've totally forgotten how much I can't understand the "Kölner dialect" at all!
When my Grandfather (from whom I get my love of the game according to my Mom, bless him!) would speak it when I was a kid I had a hell of a time trying to understand him.

never heard the Kölner dialect before. what is it like. like the bayerisch dialect or what. i am used to german from the north so i would probally have a hell of a time understanding it. oh well maybe i can find out when i go back to germany this coming summer, only thing is i think im only going to be around hamburg. but that is ok with me. i know many people there. anyways its germany. it will be fun :)

There will be a press conference on monday.
Rumours scream it out lould that they did come to an agreement with Daum who is said to have regretted his decision of not taking the job.

We`ll see, what that press conference is about on monday. I only believe it if I see him in the stadium on the bench :)

He is known to have a bead reputation from his time in Dortmund, but let`s not be unfair.
Actually Cologne made a plus of almost 10 Mio last season. They presented their statistics on the annual meeting this week and they made 160.000 EUR Minus, but that did not include the 10 Mio EUR they got for Poldi from Bayern.
Cologne`s season turnover was about 43 Mio EUR for the last season.

Media was going frenzy in the last days here, many names of possible new players were dropped and almost 10.000 people showed up to watch the first training with Daum.

Köln has completed two transfers and now has two players from Brazil, Andre Oliveira (21) and Tiago Fernandes Cavalcanti (22).
Also they lent the norwegian international Marius Johnsen (25) with an option to buy him at the end of the season.
