View Full Version : SPL attendance?

Please forgive my American ignorance, but why is there such a large discrepancy between Celtic's match attendance and other clubs? When I watch SPL highlights, many of the seats are empty and the results show only a few thousand in attendance. Why the seemingly sparse attendance?
Just so no one takes offense, I'm not criticizing, just curious. I love watching SPL!

only the old firm 2 (from Glasgow scotlands largest city, also ppl Not from Glasgow also mostly support one of the old firm teams) have big average attendences which can rival premiership/epl teams, other SPL teams are minows comparable to championship/english division 1 attendences (or even less)
also maybe due to the fact that scotland is a country with around 5 million ppl and england is a country with around 50 million (10 times), also the standard of football is higher so naturally more ppl will go the the games to watch their team live.

I think the site is still under the impression that Inverness are playing their home games at pittodrie (home of aberdeen). When in fact their stadium only has a top capacity of 7,500 tops. So their percentage can be discarded.

as far as i aware mate only man utd have a higher average attendance in the uk than celtic. although with arsenals shiny new stadium that may change at the end of this season. rangers also have a large attendance which must be near the top as they are averaging 50000 too they are hampered by the fact they simply cant fit any more in to the ground and the same goes for celtic. as for the rest of the teams in the spl like the man says they are on a par with english championship sides in terms of size. i mean no disrespect by this it is simply down to fact west of scotland is most populated area in the country and on the scale of things we are a small nation. the scottish game has always been hampered by this geographical handicap although we still manage to give our neighbours in england a 'bloody nose' when they come visiting lol. well what do they expect when they constantly belittle everything about bonnie scotland at every oportunity. "we send them homewards to think again'

That's pretty much what I thought, given the country's relative size. But I was still curious. Hopefully I'll make it over before I'm worm food to tour the country and catch a match!

To the later two posts, I'd like to make it known to both of you, one of whom i'm sure is already aware of this, so i will reiterate it further in simple mans terms.
Celtic Park not only outranks Greyskull in capacity by a good amount, but the geographic demographics are also superior as well as the hospitality offered, around, outside and inside the stadium itself. Not to mention the fans themselves are known to be more loyal and forward with their support, as apposed to being frightened and/or embarrassed to express their football team.
P.s. It'd be interested to see stats of the times the fans head for the turnstiles as many a time this season has greyskull seen it's stands empty before the final whistle, more so and more often than any other SPL ground.
A humble second this time round in the capacity ranks is good enough I am sure. Although a mediocre second in the SPL... (I'll let you bhoys fill in the blanks(that Prso has been shooting of late;))...

How many stewards/fellow fans have been slashed inside the house of horrors by the GFITW this season?
Not to mention the fans themselves are known to be more loyal and forward with their support, as apposed to being frightened and/or embarrassed to express their football team. More loyal? Where were they all 10 years ago before Fergus bought the club......in the toilet?
We are simply obeying the laws and regulations layed down by UEFA anf the government. As all good law abiding British citizens should do.
P.s. It'd be interested to see stats of the times the fans head for the turnstiles as many a time this season has greyskull seen it's stands empty before the final whistle, more so and more often than any other SPL ground.Me too.In the last few league games I've seen Sceptic park empty long before the final whistle. It's worse when your team is losing to a pile of shite, admitedlly.C'mon it wasn't that long ago it was a regular occurance at the noncedome.

I think you'll find due to our 5(count em) uefa star Ibrox being a grade 1 listed building (something your corrogated iron hastilly built shack could never hope to be) we arent allowed to modify the ground.

Cmon the bricks look fine. They're an essential part of the 'puddle and pylon urban shithole with monstrosity footy ground' ambience that the photographer was aiming for.

For the last time........Castle Greyskull is the home of He-Man,the good guy.
Snake Mountain is the home of Skeletor, the bad guys.
Selleck fans, referring to Ibrox as Castle Greyskull, the home of the good guys,is just plain stoopid.

I heard rumours last season that they can increase capacity by lowering the pitch

what about filling in the corners like Utd have done? or do you have to take away the screen? lowering the pitch sounds awful lot of work.

Corners cant be touched due to grade 1 status, but this gives you an idea if you added a tier

yeah but i think the angle that the fans who mention greyskull is that fact that its just as ugly due to the red bricks and fact it is in that five star of housing schemes sunny guvan. another really classy area for rangers fans to critisise the east end when they home is in govan is a little ridiculous. i grew up not far from ibrox so i know how classy govan can be :D

i however grew up in pollokshaws which is like mayfair in london lolololol p.s dont really know what mayfair looks like its just top of the monopoly board he he he.
i prefered it when it when ibrox had the multi coloured seating and it looked like legoland.
oh ne more thing before i forget, last i heard celtic park only wasnt awarded top status was due to the fact the dressing rooms were a couple of square metres short of the necessary size. if i'm wrong someone let me know as i'd like to find out cheers folks

yeah but i think the angle that the fans who mention greyskull is that fact that its just as ugly due to the red bricksDesigned by reknowned architect Archibald Leach who also done Highbury,Goddison etc.Listed building etc etc and you call it ugly? The facade of Sceptic park is horrendous red brick and cheap and nastly looking, just like the rest of the 'stadium'.
and fact it is in that five star of housing schemes sunny guvan. another really classy area for rangers fans to critisise the east end when they home is in govan is a little ridiculous.I live in Govan and the area that you refer to,down the Broomie Rd is basically all gone now.Govan, compared to the East End is a paradise......how ironic is that?
No fucking comparison is there,really?

Im sure the intertoto cup will be honoured to have such a pretty stadium in next years cup lolol. if i was going to get picky i could say that that pick looks like a victorian school or sweatshop/factory building maybe even a prison, but this whole topic is just a bit lame.
whatever is said celtic park used to be a hole in the earth and is looking much better nowadys on the other hand nelly mate if you show the red brick at ibrox during the day when you can see how bad it looks and celtic park under favourable light i couldve made the exact same post as your self not that you will ever admit that.
back to my original question is it true that its only the dressing room size thats preventing the award of top status cos all anyone has came up with lately is ' there is a puddle outside' and there is a pylon outside' which are a bit on the lame side.
