well this was sort of a suprise, I would have thought he wanted a new challenge in the Prem, especially after the medical at Charlton, but obviously the prospect of relegation & having to adapt to much better league at 33 has put him off, picked the easier option imo

He's also certain to win trophies before 2008 as well, so that probably had something to do with his transfer :)

The easier option being the champions league

Thats what I was thinking :)

Is his wife not due to give birth or has given birth recently ?
Maybe that kept him in scotland

how many more times will he play in the CL this season, 2 times max? :p

Playing in a faster, harder & higher quality league domestically and regularly is the harder option is what I'm trying to say. Obviously there's CL next year, but it depends if at 34 he's still the No1 choice CB at Celtic :D the reason he was signed is because of the injury probs right now at celic, if every1's fit he probably won't be signed.

the wife bit may be the more reasonable explanation.

yes I was thinking about that since he played for Hearts in the CL qualifiers, which btw totally exposed Hearts' lack of European class/experience, much better off giving the spot to Rangers who'll make a better fist of things and may be we might have 2 teams representing Scotland and contributing to the Co-efficient scores etc.

so is he really cup-tied? :D

yeh he is, and leaves us with the option of three center backs for europe; two of which have been plagued with injury in recent months (caldwell & mcmanus) and o'dea. since balde broke his leg on saturday.

it's for the remainder of this and next season too, didn't see anything mentioned option of one year extension. would've liked funds freed up from a possible balde exit, don't know weather this is our one and only or start of a couple/new new acquisitions, hopefully some of real class and eligible for the milan game and possible others

i do remember money being promised in january for new players, hopefully some with age on their side too, more so able to contribute to our european cause... want some real quality now that the league is in grasp and can build a lot stronger to compete on the european stage further

We must have a second string that would rival any first team in the SPL now and would almost certainly win the league in a canter like the first team!

Marshall (GK)
Telfer (RWB) Balde(RCB) Pressley(LCB) O'Dea(LWB)
Maloney(RW) Sno(RCM) Pearson(LCM) Riordan(LW)
Beattie(CF) Zurawski(CF)

Thats a well balanced experienced/talented lineup capable of giving any first team in Scotland a right run for their money, if not whopping their arses!

The future bodes well for Celtic if this is the kind of player we bring in as cover.

Edit...
Jimmy loon, don't forget JFK! Big John Kennedy should be back into the swing of things by Feb when the Champs League beckons and he'll be eligable for at least 2 games even if he aint registered as he's a product of the youth system & still under 23.

totally forgot about kennedy! and aye, hope he is fit, aint heard owt on him for awhile, but last i heard he was on the fringes of the first team, so hopefully with the league in as good as position as we are, and even with dumbarton in the cup, hopefully he can get some match sharpness sooner rather than later fitness providing.

yaaaaaaaay..

p.s o'dea making another start today alongside mcmanus in the back line

why sign for a much smaller club.okay you are right that the league would be a harder challenge for him if he went down south. but why at his age would he want to upset to his family by moving them down south when he can play for celtic without the family upheaval. i would have expected a different response from him if it was one the big 3 or 4 clubs in england (arse, man utd, chelsea, liverpool) but imo to turn down celtic for an english minnow would be insanity. good to see a good scottish player sticking around and giving his all to our league. welcome elvis
