With the A-League finals coming up very soon, i thought i'd make a thread for it. There are 2 more rounds left. This is how the tables stands these during round 20, who do you think will make it to the finals?

Team P W D L F A GD Pts
1. Melbourne Victory FC 20 14 3 3 41 16 25 45
2. Adelaide United FC 19 8 3 8 28 26 2 30
3. Sydney FC 19 8 7 4 28 17 11 28
4. Queensland Roar FC 20 8 4 8 24 26 -2 28
5. Newcastle Jets FC 19 7 5 7 25 27 -2 26
6. Central Coast Mariners FC 20 6 6 8 21 23 -2 24
7. Perth Glory FC 19 5 4 10 21 25 -4 19
8. New Zealand Knights FC 20 4 4 12 11 39 -28 16

This Round:

11/01 Central Coast 0 - 0 New Zealand Goal Scorer/s: -
12/01 Melbourne 1 - 2 Queensland: Goal Scorer/s: Damian Mori, Archie Thompson, Dario Vidosic
14/01 Adelaide 1 - 0 Sydney Goal Scorer/s: Diego Walsh
14/01 Perth 3 - 3 Newcastle Goal Scorer/s:

Next Round:

19/01 Newcastle Vs Melbourne
20/01 Queensland Vs Sydney
21/01 New Zealand Vs Perth
21/01 Central Coast Vs Adelaide

in my opinion, i reckon the table will stay as is and Melbourne Victory, Sydney, Adelaide and Newcastle will go through!
Thoughts?????

I hope Sydney and Melbourne make the final and they play it at the M.C.G, we will fill up the whole M.C.G how sick would that be!

melb, adelaide, sydney, jetsssss......

Sad to say, after that dismal performance against the knights, we are truly screwed... new strikers for us, and better luck next season :)

I'll root for the victory in the finals

Adelaide United with the win over Sydney, good victory, this makes it just more interesting, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle beats Perth. What a last round will be coming up now, Sydney Vs Queensland, if there is a victor, it will be most likely that only one will go through, one will get knocked out of the finals! Adelaide Vs Central Coast who are now knocked out of the finals after the result from the Adelaide Vs Sydney game. Adelaide must win to finish second. Newcastle Vs Melbourne which Newcastle will have to win to go into the finals. Perth Vs New Zealand Knights doesn't matter just playing for pride.

He is boring as hell, and it's detrimental to the league. No wonder why crowds have dropped, who wants to see a 1-0 win while teams like Melbourne win 4-0 with attacking football.

there was fears that an english manager would create boring football and i think at times sydney has been a bit predictable and havent played the same attacking football like last seaon

i would like to see them make it to the semi's and even further but i wouldnt mind seeing butcher go as well

how long is butchers contract?
if it's short-ish, then fair enough, but if it is longer, could sydney really afford to pay him off? (i'm assuming they would have to hand him the rest of his wages)

They are the club in the most financial trouble of all, the last thing they need is more expenses on top of that whopping fine...

I'm assuming his expenses are much less than Piere Limbarski's expenses since the didn't want to pay Piere the ammount he was getting paid the season when Sydney were champions. I think they pay Terry Butcher $500,000 a year?

alright then, fair enough, it would be better to have a better coach and have a good season playing good football to watch than making the finals this year.

Queensland will obviously against Sydney, Central Coast should get a good crowd since it's the last game of the season for them, New Zealand.... :D I don't know, but I wouldn't be suprised if they get there highest crowd all season

Interesting firgures, but you could already know that Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland and Adelaide were going to have the top four of the largest crowds. They have been performing the best and are also the 4 biggest cities in the A-League. They had to have good figures. I think Adelaide could improve on there crowd figures. They should be getting around 15,000 a game at least. Sydney and Queensland's crowds have been good, and Melbourne's has been extrodinary. :D Thanks for those firuges Matski.

No problem buddy. Should Sydney not lose to Queensland this weekend you will be at ticketek. I think even though Melbourne has the most expensive tickets people will still be willing to pay it considering they are playing in the best Stadium in Australia. They have to be careful though. They can't just rise the prices that easily, if they do too much next season it could keep people away from the game. Don't forget the standard of football here in Australia is not top notch. Maybe $5 or so rise should be alright on all tickets.

0-0 in Adelaide

Yeah. just got back from the Live Wire at Telstra Dome about 2 hours ago. Watched the game on the Big Screen. Adelaide deserved to win. Lucky to come away with the draw. Very good result for us. Now coming into Telstra Dome we have the big home crowd. But Adelaide has a slight advantage in if they draw in a game with goals they go through so we have to draw 0-0 to go to extra time or win. otherwise we lose. I hope Melbourne Victory wins and i'm sure anyone else who supports Sydney or Newcastle or even possibly Adelaide will be with me on this one because if Adelaide wins they only have a 16,000 people stadium and that would just put me off to see the grand final played in such a small stadium i mean you would have to right off any of the away supporters being lucky to get a seat. This puts off supporters. Melbourne has a big stadium, a better stadium and the capacity to fit people and is more suitable for a grand final and it is always better for the A-League to get more people at the games. I hope that if we fill the game against Adelaide and get into the Grand Final they would consider switching stadiums to the M.C.G or bring the seats in at the Telstra Dome. So c'mon Melbournian's, come and give victory the support they need to get over the line, i'll be there, hope you all can make it!

Mitch23
28-01-2007, 11:44 AM

i havent said this much all season but c'mon Melbourne

What happened to Melbournes push for away goals? Was it all bullshit to worry Adelaide? I'm tipping Melbourne to demolish them (4-0, double for Allsop, Thompson and Fred the other 2).

Is there another venue the Reds could move too if they do win?

I knew you would agree with me, it is true that Sydney would have a better chance because of the record but you have only bet them once at hindmarsh and you had carbone in that game which made a big impact. I don't think Adelaide would be an easier team than Melbourne if they play like they played today. They went into the box almost 3 times as much a Melbourne i think it was 27 times to 11 times or something like that. The only problem Adelaide have is they always try to do too much with the ball especially inside the box and they did not have a crack enough. If they took more cracks from inside the box they would have had at least 2-3 goals easily. You always fansy you would have a good chance from inside the box and even when the had half a chance you never know it might just go in. Melbourne were just kept in their half for the majority of the game and didn't really threaten Adelaide, they struggled to even get 3 passes together.

What happened to Melbournes push for away goals? Was it all bullshit to worry Adelaide? I'm tipping Melbourne to demolish them (4-0, double for Allsop, Thompson and Fred the other 2).

Is there another venue the Reds could move too if they do win?

Melbourne haven't been playing well for the last couple of weeks, everyone has there assumptions but we will have to wait and see... I don't think they would play like that in a final to worry Adelaide, if anything it would proberly make them more confident on the way the played. The only other venue that is bigger than Hindmarsh Stadium that Adelaide could play in is Aami Stadium but that stadium is made for AFL and wouldn't be very suitable for a football match, they would definately have to bring the seats in. I don't think Adelaide would change stadiums if they made it to the final. I think Melbourne & Adelaide already have there stadiums chosen which are Telstra Dome and Hindmarsh Stadium if they make it to the final. But you never know though.

hopefully Melbourne Sydney final. would be a great match

and would make it easier to get tickets seen as though the dome holds about 3 times more than hindmarsh

there is has been reports in adelaide that the final would be held in adelaide oval which is a cricket ground which is reasonable.

That was the most exciting game I've witnessed in the A League so far in the competitions short history. Maybe being an Adelaide United supporter helped and the result made it that much better but I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails throughout the game, especially after Necastle equalised and beyond. I hardly have a nail left!

Anyways, looking forward to another meeting with Melbourne in the grand final. We were very unlucky to lose it all so late in the semi final second leg so let's hope this time around the boys can fight out a better result. Oh and let me say, Matthew Kemp's yellow card to keep him out of the grand final was utter bullshit. He won the ball, how much clearer does Referee Breeze need it? If he wasn't sure, give the free kick for all I care but that yellow card was not neccissary. Now, we are fucked down that left side for the Grand Final next week.

Tickets just sold out within an hour of going public. Luckily I have a season ticket and an FFA member. I got 6 tickets all together a little spread out but I think I can pull a few shifties to get us in one place. The Northern Terrace don't sit nor do they stand in their allocated seatings.

Kosmina cops five-match ban

ADELAIDE United's John Kosmina will be forced to coach his side from the grandstand in Sunday's A-League grand final after being suspended for five matches for abusing a referee.

Kosmina was also fined an undisclosed amount for breaching the A-League code of conduct after abusing referee Matthew Breeze following last weekend's preliminary final.

Kosmina clashed with Breeze after his side's dramatic penalty shootout victory over Newcastle, which won it a spot in the grand final against melbourne Victory.

He was shown in television footage clearly mouthing obscenities at Breeze as they passed each other following the shootout.

Football Federation Australia said Kosmina would be banned from the technical area on the sidelines, starting with Sunday's grand final.

His ban will also include next season's pre-season cup matches, but will not affect Adelaide's Asian Champions League campaign, beginning next month...Foxsports (http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,21231111-23215,00.html)

A cool little feature they had on FSC was the Sony Strike Speed which shows the balls speed when it leaves the players foot and when it hits the net. Thompson's third goal was 102 kmph.

Even though Thompson had 5 goals, Sarkies goal was definately the best of the lot. Pretty cool to come on and score a goal immediately.

IMO this is the right result for the A-League - Melbourne topped the League so they should be A-League Champions. However I wouldn't have begrudged Adelaide as they were harshly treated last year as they topped the table and lost in the finals.

Fuck we just signed Millicevic, now this fella done well against the likes of Arsenal and other teams in the champions league. This fella is only 26 and alot of people are confused why Guus left him out of the socceroos squad (Guus is GOD though so I'm not going to argue about that), but he is versatile playing infront of the front four and pretty much across back four! Superb addition to Melbourne and the A league.
