lack of luck (they usually had a lot), which leads to a lack of confidence.......
hopefully, the crisis continue a bit more :p (except in the CL if possible)

I read it was because of the rigorous work-outs during the break. Yea right... I have been a bit surprised, they haven't been cohesive after the break at all. The defensive line isn't as solid. Set pieces aren't as good. Can the forwards do anything after they touch the ball? They have set the bar so high for themselves they look like crap when they don't reach that level.
I just hope they can pull it together before the next CL match.

Come on, they can't be winning forever.. a small flaw like this was expected. I'm sure they will be able to pull themselves together in time for CL and later..

Why not? I mean, they know the title is already won. The only goal left is the UCL. So would it be so surprising that they set their preparation to be at their top when the UCL will come back? They don't give a shit about the games in January and during the first half of Febuary, so even if they don't want to lose, these results don't really matter (plus they know that their opponents can't have more than 2 good results in a row).
The danger of such a series of bad results is, for Lyon, to lose their winning spirit. Then what they could have gained on a physical level, would be erased by a weaker spirit.
So let's hope for them that all this was planned long before
And they'd better recover quickly cause they won't be able to compete against la Roma if they're not at their top ;)

I don't know if Lyon planned a specific physical training for CL but what is sure is that Roma v Lyon is in 15 days!
So I guess the only way Lyon can come back at the top so quickly is that Duverne is gonna do an old fashion magical trick just before Roma v Lyon :D
I won't be surprised if Lyon would make a little trip at the Alpes... héhé
Just kinding :p

what if Italian soccer isn't all solved by then!
I'd imagine theyd be playing matches again by then, its not like they are gonna cancel the season. Other sports have had situations where a player dies or something of the sort and they handle it in a respectable manner pay tribute (sometimes adding badges on jerseys) then get on with it. Nothing really wrong with that, no disrespect to the person.

what about the Coupe de France?
I'm sure they would have been happy to win the cup, but it was only their third objective. And compared to the UCL or the 6th league title (new record) => who cares, really? Plus, they are already in the League Cup final.

If really their down period is linked to the preparation, I wouldn't worry about when we'll see the results of it. 2 weeks is very long when it comes to physical preparation. Duverne knows what he's doing, so I don't think he'll have to fix his own work.
But if their down period is linked to something else than the preparation..

I don't think you realize how bad the situation is. We all hope that they'll play again as soon as possible, but at the same time something needs to be done. It should have been done long time ago but the murder of a cop is the event that could make the things move.
It's not about paying tribute, it's about saving a league that is rotten in all its parts. If they don't do anything now, they never will and italian football would die.

Correct me if I'm wrong, cause I missed a few things of the january transfer market. Why did they sell Carew?!!!??
And get Baros? ...
Carew made the differnce this year. He was unstoppable in the CL. I think they blew it. How much they got for him?

If you were only watching the UCL and especially the game against Real Madrid, Carew could appear as a first class player.
Thing is that he hasn't scored a lot (even in the Ligue 1), made many faults (faults which aren't considered as such in the EPL), and, finally, it looked like he wasn't really made for the football played by Lyon. That's why he was most of the time on the bench.
And get Baros? ...
Yeah, that's the real question. Is Baros a better player than Carew?
The improvement for the team isn't obvious. But Houiller likes him a lot and made clear since he came to Lyon that he wanted this player. So...
Two years ago, Baros was a top quality player, but now?
Still, he seems to be more interesting for the team than Carew. His game is more varied. He can go on the wings, calls the ball more, runs a lot...
So he could be a better solution than Carew. Could be... We'll see
But for sure Baros looks more like a second choice for a club willing to win the Champions.

In fact Houiller doesn't like to play with two strickers. He prefers a 4-2-3-1 where the two wing backs come forward very often. And that's why Carew never did very well at Lyon cause he needs a second stricker to rely on.
I think Lyon could play better with Fred on the bench and Baros on the pitch. Ben Arfa should play more often too.

Fred and Cris should have been red carded...! And maybe Juni too for his fault at the end of the game...
I couldn't believe Lyon played so violently. That was a disgrace cause we all know they are better than this.

I can tell you what happened. Houllier is finally having his impact on the team. He could very well be out of a job at the end of the year if he doesn't watch himself. The man has never really done more than above average and now he is taking a team that was good and making them above average.

They do that when they can't win. They do this against Toulouse and Bordeaux.

They had too much goose at christmas and Santa was too good to them
now they are all spoiled and they have forgotten that to get some results you need to run and not to count on your reputation to do the job
Coupet is not the same anymore he is been really dull since the beginning of the year and the other players are just the shadow of what they used to be
Malouda plays like an idiot, he thinks he is the man and wastes all the balls that happen to come on the lefft wing by meaningless dribbles
Juninho needs to renew his stock of dope because apparently he doesn't see his aim clearly anymore
The only poor guy that keeps running every where is Govou
ANd we don't want Baros in the team, Lyon is not a star team
ANyway all that shit is good for Bordeaux

Umm, I'm pretty sure Roma, Toulouse, and Bordeaux have also had players sent off this year, as well as their share of yellow cards. Lyon has lost so few times this year that when they do lose, everyone magnifies it 1000x.
I agree that Fred should have been red carded, but Juninho and Cris's fouls, while rough, were no more rougher than Mexes's foul on Juninho in the first leg.

Lyon lose Cris for six months
Monday 13 August 2007
Olympique Lyonnais are likely to be without captain Cris until February after the centre-back tore ligaments in his right knee in the 1-0 defeat by Toulouse FC on Saturday.
First defeat
The 30-year-old Brazilian international, who has won the title in each of his three campaigns at Lyon, was carried off after an hour and a scan today confirmed that the cruciate and lateral ligaments in his right knee had ruptured. The news compounds a miserable three days for the French champions who had Kim Källström sent off during Saturday's reverse, their first of the season.
Coupet blow
It is the second serious knee injury a Lyon player has suffered this term – goalkeeper Grégory Coupet was ruled out until December after tearing ligaments at the start of the month. Coupet was operated on last week by Dr Bernard Moyen, who will now perform surgery on Cris in the next few days. Lyon play FC Lorient on Saturday.

I guess Lyon will have to recruit a new central defender...! (maybe Yepes?)
Maybe an other goalkeeper is also needed...
It is time to spend some money Mr Aulas!

Maybe Heinze?lol you really don't want him to go to Liverpool :D
But indeed it would be a great signing for Lyon! However i don't think Heinze would like to come back & play in France...
