However, the club said on Wednesday afternoon: "Contrary to media reports, Sydney FC have not issued a formal statement regarding the future of coach Terry Butcher." TWG 7/2/07 (http://theworldgame.com.au/home/index.php?pid=st&cid=82821)

this is the first ive heard of this

i guess its good news in a way because they didnt do to well under him but now they dont have very long to find a new manager with the champions league so close

2 coaches ditched
1 to be hired (would make 3 coaches in two years)
2 marquee players have left (Exchanging law suits with one of them)
2 salary cap breaches
In-squad strife
Board squabbles
Chairman resignation

Not trying to evoke the wrath of the sydney fans, but really...
That is NOT a stable club, not by a long shot.

They need a low budget/no frills, EXPERIENCED manager, with a good record and a calm temperament.

Branko in a commanding position for the job?
The football community is very familiar with him, and i for one think it would be a great move by Sydney FC to hand him control

Then they need a new board ;)

End Rant

Feeling sorry for you lads, we just need a striker or two

......... or four :(

Sad for football in aussie because he is a gem of a guy (and most likely coach/manager). He stood out on fox sports as someone who was in touch with the game and as someone that has the best intentions. Without people like him at the helm the A-league is doomed to fail.

I heard something about him disciplining a player for not showing up to training.. along the lines of..
player "sorry I missed..."
Butcher "That's OK, just sit over there...... no not that there.. in the one that's plugged in"

Classic.. apparently the player didn't get it.. kind of gives a golden example of some of the players in the illustrious A league.

The A-League is doomed to fail if coaches employ defensive tactics to grind out 1-0 wins at home and 0-0 draws away. That was pretty evident in the decreasing crowd numbers experienced by SFC. The best thing for the league is attacking football. You would have around a 3rd of the crowd who will go every week, another 3rd who go semi-regularly, and another 3rd who go to a few games a season. 2/3 of the crowd will lose interest pretty fast if the team plays boring football. Sydney didn't have as bad of a problem as they could have cos they were still winning. I watched the Penrith Panthers lose week after week during the 90's. Teams would score 40 points against us, but at least we scored 30 in reply. You always new you would see attacking football, so the fans showed up.

I think the real problem was the clash of footballing cultures. Over there, winning is everything, over here, it's a game.

IMO terry has done nothing for sydney, in fact hes brought them back a peg or two.
i dont know how he is as a coach but Branco always seems to know what he's talking about, so he should do fine as an interim coach.

Must be size 5's:D

All this means to me is that hopefully he should show up on The World Game less often:cool:

hope its not just as an interim. he took a few teams in the old NSL and done a good job so he should do well for sydney and hopefully they sign him for the A-League next season

They were after him in the very beginning so I can't see any reason they wouldn't want to make it permanent. Not too many better options around, talentwise, either.

I read he has 14 games or something like that to prove himself. Otherwise he is out the door.
