Dunno if this has been posted but I've been hearing that the MLS team The Colorado Rapids is now Colorado Arsenal FC and that they also changed their colors as well.

Copying European clubs, just reminds people of the distance between MLS and Europe in football quality. MLS should be trying to forge a path on its own instead of trying to make football an "attraction".
MLS is getting to be like the Las Vegas of football. You can see the great pyramids, New York, Paris, Italy; but it is all just a cheap immitation of the real thing and only idiots don't understand that. A French person would not go to the Paris Casino in Vegas instead of going back to France. Why would someone who watches football ever be fooled into watching the Colorado Arsenal or Real Salt Lake instead of the real deal?
Plus, here is another reason the MLS is becoming more like Vegas. Vegas is where you can see all of those old washed up singers and celebrities. Now MLS is becoming home to washed up celebrities of football.

Good point but I still find it interesting that my favorite club that I follow in Europe now is tied in with the local club where I live. I can't help but be optimistic especially if theres the possibiltiy of a friendly vs Wenger's Arsenal here in Denver but that is probably a stretch. From what i've been reading the colorado club has "ties" with Arsenal in some fashion. To what extent I have no idea but this sounds better than just the copying of another name with no other reason than to get attention. I suppose at the end of the day though it's just another way to make a buck.
ALSO to lend a tad bit of credibility to the name change you have some history about where the new stadium was built: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain_Arsenal
I'm sorry but I can't help but be a little excited. Especially after reading this:
LONDON: Major League Soccer team Colorado Rapids is reportedly set to announce a training partnership with English Premier League side Arsenal.
Arsenal declined to comment on the report in Friday's edition of British daily The Independent.
The Rapids said on its Web site that "a groundbreaking international soccer partnership and major club identity changes" would be unveiled at a news conference scheduled for 2000 GMT Friday.
On Thursday, the Rapids said its team would be at Arsenal's training center in London in March.
Under the partnership, the clubs would play friendlies against each other and also collaborate on coaching initiatives and player development, the report said. The MLS club could also change its name to Colorado Arsenal or Arsenal Colorado, and its strip to Arsenal's colors.

Guess what, guys. It's not true. The logo in the first post is a photoshop of the new logo the Rapids announced today. You can see the article on the MLS website here:
http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20070209&content_id=83403&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp
Soccernet is also reporting that the name change was considered and rejected.
The MLS team also ditched its black and blue colors, but decided against adopting Arsenal's red and white scheme or incorporating the Arsenal brand into its name.
The Rapids had strongly considered changing their name to Colorado Arsenal or Arsenal Colorado and had registered those domain names to prevent cybersquatting.
However, the team introduced a new shield and kits Friday that maintained the Rapids nickname and incorporated the maroon from owner Stan Kroenke's NHL team and the powder blue of his NBA team.

I agree that it's lame, but South American teams have been doing it for years, and it does beat the moronic American names some of the teams have. Still, Real Salt Lake has to be the worst.

While I'm a Becks fan, one player does not a league make. Let's not forget the MLS has at times had players who were either well past their prime or couldn't make it in more-established leagues become "stars." I mean, seriously--Preki became a legend in the MLS. Predrag Radosavljević, for crying out loud!

so fucking what??
the mls started from scratch, and we weren't going to get the ronaldinho's of the world over night. the mls has already succeeded in its stated purpose which is to develop the us national team. good on them.

they have done exactly what the target of the league was to do so in reality they have succeeded in their goal and should be congratulated on that. yeah given it is not the best league in the world but is it better than some leagues that are around the world, im sure it is better than some of the smaller ones. but the league is trying to do the best it can to still have american players be the majority to develop the national team but they are now trying to increase the quality of the league a bit now that it is beginning to be an established league with some credibilit to it and im really not that big of a fan of mls. i do think that it is one of the lower leagues but it is in its infancy and it is heading in the right direction and that progress is being seen.
go fire!!!
