Panama may cause some problems in the 2007 Gold Cup and 2010 Qualifiers, I mean they reached the final of the 2005 Gold Cup and for the first time made their debut in the semifinal-round during the 2006 qualifiers. Also, recent results seen to support this but is your opinion? Alos, their U-20 side has qualfied 3 times for the world cup
Peru 0 - 2 Panama
Guatemala 1 - 2 Panama
Panama 1 - 0 El Salvador
Trinidad & Tobago 2 - 1 Panama
Panama - Panama 1 - 2 Peru
El Salvador 0 - 0 Panama
Panama 1 - 1 Armenia
Panama 2 - 1 Trinidad & Tobago

I suppose it's possible if they can get some veterans in the top Euro leagues. But I hope you're not relying on the current youth players to make an impact. They didn't look very good in U-20 qualifying against the US:

that is what tends to hapen when US sub 20's play any other concacaf team.
Panama isn't too bad, but I don't think they are even close to Costa Rica and are a 1,000,000,000,000,000.000 country miles away from the States and Mexico. But then again you only need to be better then baharain:D  :p

heard lots of good things about their banking system, ;) but i havent heard much about their footy teams. I think that they're just one of those teams thats slowly making more progress in their devolpment than the other lower seeded nations, and so they are just showing up more often. But they are never going to compete with the likes of countries with 100+ million people, simpley because they dont have the populartion base to pick from.
So good for them for showing up, maybe someday they'll even shock a team or two, make a holiday out of it or something, but i cant say i'm every going to take them seriously, untill they make the world cup final(as in the final game)....twice.

Does that mean you don't take the Canadian team seriously? :D :p

Well, actually Panama has put up a challenge against the US and Mexico during the 2006 qualifiers
Against the US, Roberto Brown put Panama up 1-0 in minute 69 and the US scrapped a draw with Cobi Jones scoring in stoppage time.
Against Mexico, Luis Tejada scored a chilena against goalkeeper Sanchez to get a historic 1-1 draw at home.

That first match against the US was amid a torrential rainstorm. I remember that goal though, it was a brilliant strike. The player was totally flat footed at the egde of the box and put it into the top corner.
They played well against Mexico too, but that was a totally scrappy effort to secure that draw.
Panama is getting remarkably better, but they need to improve their performance away from home. They also have a problem in the youth system, because most kids are more attracted to baseball than football right now, but that is changing.
My pops is from Panama and football has never really been a popular sport there. Baseball and boxing have always been tops. Boxing is not so popular anymore, so football is coming up. But they are still perhaps a decade away from challenging Costa Rica for 3rd in CONCACAF. However, like someone said above, they really just need to be better than T&T and Bahrain. That is possible for the 2010 WC, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.
BTW - they also need to build a better football stadium, because the current facilities are not adequate.

YEAH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, THE ESTADIO ROMMEL FERMANDEZ NEEDS TO BE REMODELED OR THEY NEED TO BUILT A NEW STADIUM.
UNFORTUMATELY, THE ANAPROF (Asociación Nacional Pro Fútbol), the top soccer league in Panama isn't that popular that's another problem.
