Claude Puel's reaction to the match:

It will be interesting to see how LOSC will play in this match after that tough mental defeat against Manchester United.

"LILLE contre attaque"

Lille to appeal fine
Lille have announced that they are to appeal the fine they received for incidents during the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester United in February.

The Lille side temporarily left the pitch in protest during the game after they had a goal controversially ruled out before Ryan Giggs put Manchester United ahead with a quick free-kick that the French team believe should not have been allowed to stand.

Overcrowding in the away end - a result of fans entering the stadium with forged tickets - also led to English fans climbing over fencing to escape the crush.

The club were fined €60,000 (£40,000) for "breaches of security provisions and lack of proper organisation, as well as for the improper conduct of the team after the goal in the English side's 1-0 victory".

However, a statement on Lille's official website revealed the club are to attempt to clear their name.

"We have decided to appeal against the Uefa ruling to protect our interests in the present and in the future," it said.

"We'll try to convince the appeal commission that we carried out our duties perfectly and fully."
Click (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=458813&CPID=5&clid=1&lid=&title=Lille+to+appeal+fine&channel=&)

This is a waste of UEFA's time and Lille's penalty should be doubled on appeal. They dropped the ball with regards to security and should be held accountable. I don't understand where they get off saying otherwise...

Reaction from Claude Puel
http://www.losc.fr/images_losc/itv/vignettes/070409Reactions02.jpg

SAINT-ETIENNE / STATHIS TAVLARIDIS :
« Le public m’aimera très vite »
vendredi 15 juin 2007 - 13 h 25 - Ivan BONET

Lundi, l’AS Saint-Etienne a présenté sa première recrue : Efstathios Tavlaridis.

Je vais me battre chaque jour.

Odemwingie is interested in Naples:

Lille : Naples sur Odemwingie ?
Ignazio GENUARDI - mardi 19 juin 2007 - 17h06

Chalmé currently can't leave Lille:

Do you mean Odemwingie?Supposely, he is even half-russian.

"Toulouse claims that they have signed André-Pierre Gignac. Toulouse’s chairman, Olivier Sadran is now confirming that Gignac has signed a four year contract with Toulouse. “It is a settled case. Our administrative director was in Lorient on Monday. Lorient signed the last papers. Gignac has signed a four-year contract. We have followed the rules” (Sadran). Lille already said they struck a deal with Gignac with a deal around 4.5 million €. “I am sure of one thing, we had an agreement both with the player and FC Lorient” (Michel Seydoux, LOSC chairman). Sky Sports says that the Gignac transfer will be investigated by the juridicial committee of Ligue 1. According to Seydoux, Lille has experienced transfer disputes like this in the past with Abidal and Tavlaridis. This is an interesting transfer battle between Toulouse and Lille. I am not sure how legitimate Toulouse’s deal with Gignac is. We will just have to see how it turns out."

You'll play this first game at home which is the best to start the season with a victory!

Yeah but i guess the beginnings are always hard with a team where some key players left!
Moreover the heat was high so phycially it's hard to practise any sport! I like to run 10-15km and actually in France when i'm running it's like my body is on fire!

I personally cannot stand any hot weather. It is so hard for me to exercise in the heat. I love cold weather.

I have spent a lot of time researching and thinking about Lille's objective this season. I have come to the conclusion that the LOSC management has decided to rebuild the squad using young players. Les Dogues lost several important players during the recent mercato including Bodmer, Odemwingie, Keita, Gygax, and Tavlaridis. In total the club lost 13 players, and only recruited 4 (Béria, Maric, Tahirovic, Yanes). Clearly, the new players cannot replace the ones we lost, but the management feels a couple of them can. The club received a lot of transfer money, but didn't spend it on any key signings. Instead, Les Lillois have invested on developing young talent. I personally don't like the direction the club is going. Developing youth takes time. The management should have just signed notable or already established players.

Indeed it was a mistake to sell Keita and Bodmer for 24M€ without recruiting at least good players to replace them! With less than 24M€ could have bought really good players...
Anyway, i think Puel will always be able to do good things with what he's got!

This next game against Sochaux will be a hard one but it will be a good test for Lille & Puel.

Allez Lille :)

Butterfly, don't take it personally. I think zeratul is heating things up for your upcoming match :D . Kluivert has had a good career, but I don't know how well he will play for Lille. He is getting old, 31 now. Last season with Ajax he only scored 3 goals in 16 appearances. Yuck. I think even Odemwingie scored more goals than him last season :p .

Not a good move for Lille, really. I’m not sure why Seydoux enjoys feeding Lyon with talent. He wants to challenge Olympique Lyonnais for the Hexagoal by the year 2012. How is that possible when he keeps increasing the gap between Lyon and the rest of the league?

It is really tough to say. To me, it comes down to money. With Aulas, 14 million euros for Makoun is probably another piece to the puzzle for the CL. With Seydoux, he knows that 14 million euros will probably get him 3 or 4 decent players in the french leagues.

Claude Puel is a great manager, he'll manage without Makoun. I've actually liked Makoun's play since three or so seasons ago, but I was disappointed in him this Cup of Nations. In the opening match, iirc, Cameroon were awful, Makoun was awful, Pfister subbed him off and later in the game (they had not got better in the meanwhile) he was having jokes and was in laughter on the bench. I mean, please, do you even care?

Nevertheless, no player is bigger than a NT or a club and Lille got decent bucks for him. With the new stadium and all, success on the pitch will be hard to sustain (lack of funds). The best that could happen is to sustaining the stability which Claude Puel can achieve.

Really?! I didn't know that:eek: He's a really good player he could easily break in into for example Arsenal. He was tipped to become the next Makélélé and he was also the captain of the France U-21 team. But he made a bad move to Villareal for the season 07-08 he didn't get so much playing time there. So in january 08 he was loaned out to Lille and in the summer of 08 Lille bought him.

Summary: A good buy;)

I haven't but it would be a stupid move for him imo, Lille have a very ambitious team with a good manager and can still claim a CL spot, why would he join a team that can only challenge for the 7th or 8th place? No offense to Wigan, you have a good team but I think Mavuba would be better off staying at Lille for at least one more season.

btw, how is Nzogbia doing?

Quite well. Great buy for us all in all.

Scored a fantastic goal against Sunderland that he made himself (http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2217289//)(go to 2:51), but he got injured after this Hull player just clobbered him and so against Everton he was pretty quiet and didn't feature against Arsenal.

Very quick and skillful and finally gives us some balance down the left. Our team was sort of destroyed in Jan so we have had to rebuild mid season and have been scraping by.

I also like him because he does lots of good defensive work like Valencia in addition to attacking.

We aren't in the Champions League (yet!) but still, compared to the last two years we have made fantastic progress this season and we have an outside shot of Europa League.
