First of all, I'm quite pleased to have found fbtz and am really enjoying getting my daily footie fix.
I am also wondering if any of you can recommend similar sites or forums that focus on concacaf teams and specifically the Mexican national team. The concacaf coverage here is pretty good especially for the USMNT which I'm happy about. I am just hoping to supplement that a bit with more Mexico and central america news etc. English or Spanish sites would be fine.
Also are there any trackers out there with good focus on the Mexican team? I love the USMNT tracker and was able to watch the US vs Ecuador game but I haven't seen Mexico's friendly listed anywhere yet.
Anyhow, thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to the great summer ahead!

Well, perhaps there are not too many Mexican national team fans here but in case any others swing by I've come across at least two other places to check out.
FutbolMex.net has a forum and some updates on the national team however it doesn't seem to have many people posting on a regular basis. The other place I've found so far is probably an obvious one and that is BigSoccer.com. They have a section dedicated to Mexico.
Finally, there is the blog mexico.theoffside.com that has some good info from time to time.
I'd love to hear of more if you come across any...

I am a big fan of the Mexican national team, I usually record their games when they broadcast them here in LA.

I really hope things work out with Sven. It would be nice to see Mexico steamroll through the WC qualifiers. The squads potential is far greater than what we have seen in recent competitions.

I can't believe Mexico lost to Jamaica. Mexico was lackluster the whole game.
I wish Borgetti would come back to the team. And I wish Guillermo Ochoa would get a start in goal.
Something needs to change...

Mexico have finally found a TRUE 9 to fill in the void left by Javier Borgetti :D,Meet Javier "El Chicharito" Hernandez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javier_Hern%C3%A1ndez_%28footballer%29). This kid is unbelievable in his two starts he has banged in 3 goals. I really hope this is the missing piece we have been looking for Vela linking up with this kid has complemented each other. Its vital that he continues to play for El Tri and the way things are looking we might have some success in South Africa :D great eye for goal.
I'm hoping for this lineup in South Africa
--------------G.Ochoa---------------
Juarez---Marquez---Magallon---Salcido
---------------I.Castro--------------
Dos Santos------------------Guardado
---------------Blanco----------------
-------------------------Vela--------
--------------Hernandez-------------

i'm a fan of the vela-dos santos partnership. they proved to be quite deadly against the usa in the gold cup final. what happened to omar bravo and the other guy with the long hair? i forget his name..........

He didn't die on the pitch though. Apparently he had a known heart condition. Good thing you guys have other striking options.
Is Blanco still in?
Do you think it's a sure bet Hernandez will be heading to South Africa? Should be interesting to see what attacking power he can add to the team this summer.

Magallón
J. Dos Santos

He doesn't quite fit into Aguirre's system, he made a few comments that the public took offense to, and hes not playing much at Dinipro so hes really out of contention for any spot. Blanco is the playmaker and no one is going to argue that.

Chicharito continues to impress even off the pitch..
Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez might be a budding superstar with Manchester United but his status on one of the world's elite clubs does not mean he is an automatic starter for Mexico.
"I'm just a footballer," Hernandez told reporters. "I don't have reason to talk about that. I only have to report, train and do things as best as possible to try and win a spot on Wednesday."
Hernandez is not about to pencil himself in Mexico's Starting XI against Bosnia on Wednesday despite his recent success with Manchester United. While he's scored 11 goals for Mexico - all in 2010 - he said his time with the national team will always be about doing what the manager asks.
"Like always, no matter who is around it will always be the manager's decision and we have to support him," Hernandez said. "If we're in or not we have to give our best with our respective teams."
Hernandez was not part of Mexico's World Cup qualifying in 2008 and 2009 but burst on the scene with a handful of goals in pre-World Cup friendlies in 2010, forcing his way on the roster. However, he was not an automatic starter for El Tri in South Africa but wound up with two goals, including the only game-winner for Mexico in the squad.
While he said he may or may not be part of the long-term plans, he said the only thing he can control is
"Obviously there are processes that may have greater projection but always as good a player the only thing I do is come to work and play," he said

Mexico head coach José Manuel de la Torre has released his roster for this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup, and there are a couple of notable exclusions.
While the squad is highlighted by Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, key players Jonathan Dos Santos and Carlos Vela have been left off for the El Tri side that will look to repeat as champions of CONCACAF.
The former head coach of Mexican side Toluca, de la Torre chose three members from the side that he coached for the three years. Toluca was the second-most represented team in the squad, second only to CONCACAF Champions League winner Monterrey, which has four representatives.
Major League Soccer will be represented on the Mexico roster, as New York Red Bulls defender Rafael Marquez was called up for his fourth Gold Cup.
Here is Mexico's 23-man roster:
MEXICO CONCACAF GOLD CUP
ROSTER GOALKEEPERS - José de Jesús Corona (Cruz Azul), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca), Guillermo Ochoa (América).
DEFENDERS - Ricardo Osorio (Monterrey), Édgar Dueñas (Toluca), Jorge Torres Nilo (Tigres), Rafael Márquez (New York Red Bulls), Francisco Javier Rodríguez (PSV Eindhoven), Héctor Moreno (AZ Alkmaar), Carlos Salcido (Fulham FC).
MIDFIELDERS - Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Israel Castro (UNAM Pumas), Luis Ernesto Pérez (Monterrey), Jesús Zavala (Monterrey), Antonio Naelson Sinha (Toluca), Ángel Reyna (América), Efraín Juárez (Celtic), Andrés Guardado (Deportivo La Coruña).
FORWARDS - Aldo de Nigris (Monterrey), Giovani Dos Santos (Racing de Santander), Javier Hernández (Manchester United), Pablo Barrera (West Ham), Elías Hernández (Morelia).
Vela is going to have to make some serious decisions about his career this summer whether it be a move away from Arsenal or what he needs to get on the ball ASAP.

Vela should have never went in the first place. When SAF can make it happen for Anderson to get a permit but Wenger can't for Vella, that spelled his doom.
Gotta say I am surprised with the callups. Barrera and Juarez never play and they get called up but no Vela?
Also, why Osorio? I am sure there are other good fullbacks out there like Velrade from Pumas, and Fausto Pinto. Other guys who I am surprised aren't there are Medina, Megalon, Sabah and Michel.

Fuck Im so pissed off with Corona I cant see straight this was the tournament he was going to prove he is Mexico's #1 and what does he do? Headbutts a coach after Cruz Azul chokes yet again. I've been waiting forever to see him play for la Seleccion looks like the wait is going to continue now with him banned from the team and to top it off I hoped Michel would replace him but now it looks like Orozco is the one sigh...
a blood rush to the head literally.

I thought Juarez did play? I think its more of a chemistry thing because he links up so well with Castro and Torrado.
Barrera is a great winger very underrated who knows what happened with him at West Ham but I like what he brings to the team especially when him and Guardado both play on the wings.
Osorio's form jumped up significantly this past season and he looked solid in the friendlies I cant complain here I'm not a fan of Pinto. Medina would be surplus honestly with all the other wingers being better options, Magallon's form has dipped so bad since even before the World Cup, and Sabah hes just simply not good enough for la Seleccion, De Nigris has the upside here I like his aerial threat which we lost when Borgetti retired.
sigh Ochoa is so prone to mistakes one is bound to happen but this probably our best lineup.

I am a Pumas fans so I will always be biased towards Barrera and Juarez, just thought it was odd they got called up and not Vela.
I think Guardado lost a step since he moved to Deportivo. He was flying prior to that move.
I missed the Azul Morelia semis, so Corona lost his head. Michel should be the starter. Pikolin is untested but that blooper to Chivas hurt his stock but he was superb in the second leg against Chivas.
You don't think Zinha will start?

you don't have to be pumas fan to recognize that both barrera and juarez are ballers.
vela's still better denigris and whoever the fuck elias hernandez is. i smell typical femexfut politics stinking up the joint with vela's exclusion.
Guardado's definitely not as good as he used to be. my take, the spanish league made him bulk up and he lost his speed. he was never much of a player to get around defenders. w/out his speed, IMO, he doesnt' have much. he still has decent touch and is tactically pretty good too. only reason he doesn't do shit at the CM is cuz on the wing he usually only needs to get past 1 guy and cross or shoot over the crossbar like a good mexican.
Why (i know the answer, but it's a fucked up one) is Ochoa still part of the national team!?!?!?!!? he was the most scored on keeper in the league. THE MEXICAN LEAGUE, mind you. Michel or Corona should have the starting position. nothing against talavera though, he's pretty good too.
i have a poster up in my man cave, of him when he used to be "la pantera rosa" for chivas lol
i hope zinha starts, he's still got it where it counts.

the only ones that want him in, are the sponsors whom have invested in putting him on labels and commercials.

those commercials and labels and air time purchased will just become comic relief if he doesn't get called up to the national team.

kinda like Ibrahim Ba in WC 1998
Sad though to see Memo fall like this. He looks shorter than Michel and corona but they are all about the same height with Michel being the shortest of the three by 2 inches.
At least we don't have to see Bofo or Franco anymore, right?

Franco might have been a shitty finisher but atleast he held the ball up well and wore out CB's plenty.
edit: Chepo released the preliminary squad for Copa America
Goalkeepers: Luis Ernesto Michel (Chivas), Carlos Rodriguez (Morelia), Liborio Sanchez (Veracruz).
Defenders: Jonny Magallon (Chivas), Miguel Angel Ponce (Chivas), Jorge Enriquez (Chivas), Darvin Chavez (Atlas), Nestor Vidrio (Atlas), Hiram Mier (Monterrey), Nestor Araujo (Cruz Azul), Paul Aguilar (Pachuca), Israel Jimenez (Tigres).
Midfielders: Edgar Pacheco (Atlas), Javier Aquino (Cruz Azul), Jorge Hernandez (Jaguares), David Cabrera (Pumas), Javier Cortes (Pumas), Diego Reyes (America), Fernando Navarro (Atlante), Nestor Calderon (Toluca).
Forwards: Marco De la Mora (Chivas), Erick Torres (Chivas), Rafael Marquez Lugo (Morelia), Oribe Peralta (Santos), Jonathan Dos Santos (Barcelona B), Carlos Vela (Arsenal).
Wow I cant wait to see this squad play I think Torres will have a great tournament I assume it will be him and Vela starting. I like that Chepo finally gave Jonathan a chance. This is a great opportunity to clean up the team and add new talent to compliment those who are clear starters.

Chicharito should not be the reason you buy or don't buy a ticket. keep in mind you don't have the likes of Ryan Giggs feeding him balls.
besides, the Manager is kinda nuts and he thinks chicharito will only play if he "earns his spot" ROFL

by your rationale; (and/or poor grammar) i'd say you're just as nuts. every player has to earn their spot, but if chicho doesn't play, who will? benching the cheech will result in serious consequences.
and no one in the Mexican national team has half the talent Ryan Giggs does.

The 32-year-old Marquez, who plays for the New York Red Bulls and captained Mexico at the 2010 World Cup, joins Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela in missing out on a place in the 20-man list.
